New Palestine Plan Under UN consideration is the U.S. proposal that the General Assembly approve the late Count Bernadotte's settlement plan for Palestine. It recognizes Israel and revises the original plan, transferring Negeb (1) to the Arabs and Galilee (2) to the Jews. Haifa (3) and Lydda (4) would be free port and airport respectively, and the Jerusalem-Bethlehem area (5) would be UN-controlled. The merger of Arab Palestine with Trans-Jordan (6) is also recommended. Of the claims filed, 1241 were paid, the department said, and 211 were new claims. Throughout the state, there were 243,806 claims for insurance filed, an increase from the 205,157 filed for the comparable week a year ago. Of these, 148,109 were paid, compared to 110,261 for the same week a year ago. The number of new claims filed was increasing on a statewide basis. Wheeler of this city returned to her post as executive secretary of the Anaheim Chapter In making total 1947 plantings practically all of the nursery stock available was used up. Officials report that much planting stock could have been sold if it had been available. The outlook at present is that 300 million trees will be available for planting next spring. Shortage of seed in this and foreign countries has hampered nursery production: Seed stocks are being increased, however, by offers of attractive prices. In Wisconsin a top price of $8 a bushel of Norway pine cones will be paid this year, as compared with 50 to 75 cents a bushel in prewar years. Iron was first discovered in the United States in 1585. Mrs. P. M. Wheeler of this city returned to her post as executive secretary of the Anaheim Chapter of the American Red Cross after enjoying a month's vacation trip visiting friends and relatives in Washington and Oregon. In Seattle she had a reunion with her sister, then visited friends in Yakima and Walla Walla, Washington. She stopped in Portland, Oregon, also visited her nephew in San Anselmo, near San Francisco enroute home. National Employ the Physically Handicapped Week October 3-9, 1948.
