Work Begins on Project Here (Continued from Page 1) by Frank Tausch and Carl Pressel from Home Oil Company. The two men leased the 100 foot corner section to the Shell Oil Company and Medaris bought the remaining 45 feet as a site for his six-unit office building. The Medaris building, to have six offices housed in two units forming an arcade, is being constructed by C. R. Young and Sons, local contractors. Approximately 600 feet of working space will be offered in each of the six offices. The two building units, each housing three offices, will face West Center street. Medaris will occupy one of the modern offices which will feature latest conveniences, and the other five will be available to business organizations and professional men. Construction work on the Shell station got underway this week and is expected to be completed within 70 to 90 days. Contractors are Meyer Brothers of Los Angeles, with M. L. Todd, local Shell distributor and his associate, A. T. Terry, supervising the work. Modern design and latest facilities will be included in the new station to cover an area of 100 feet by 100 feet. Upon completion it will be operated by Harold Le Duc who is present operator of the Shell station at the Wilhelmina and North Los Angeles street intersection. He will operate the present station in conjunction with the new one, giving the city services of two Shell Oil Company concerns. Sponsor Cooking School Next Week (Continued from Page 1) WASHINGTON AS SEEN By Congressman JOHN PHILLIPS The increasing heat of the election, not to mention the temperature in Washington and California, have not fully pushed the delicacy of the Berlin situation from its top spot in the mind of the average citizen. Perhaps the gas shortage will top it. When I was in San Francisco last week, it was the obvious feeling that the gasoline strike would be settled by the middle of that week. They were holidays anyway; there would be gas enough for that week-end, and the workers, having given this demonstration, would settle the wage argument and return to work. It did not turn out that way. I do not know the merits of the argument. The unions want, apparently, a 21c increase and the companies offer a 12½ cent increase. The point that interests me now, as it must interest all other citizens individually (aside from the inconvenience of having to hunt for gasoline) is the increasing danger of government interference, on grounds of public safety, convenience and welfare. On such grounds, governments inject themselves into the affairs of their citizens, and the ultimate bitterness. He blamed President Roosevelt for the American position to that war; he became definitely anti-American in thinking; he absented himself from diplomatic and military affairs where he might find Americans. Yet, while America followed an appeasement policy towards the USSR, he still peared in the picture, for Russia. What effect will his death have on Americans? Yet, while America followed an appeasement policy towards the USSR, he still peared in the picture, for Russia. What effect will his death have on Americans? Yet, while America followed an appeasement policy towards the USSR, he still peared in the picture, for Russia. I spoke of Zhdanov's death presumably unexpected. We you live in a country, opera under national socialism so completely as Russia, deaths may either natural or political. It has the latest development in oven control, automatic oven clock, high separate smokeless broiler, griddle, triple-check flame control and automatic lighting. This stove is available in several styles and with various complements to each stove. The Philco home freezer unit is available in several cubic foot sizes with ample storage space to accommodate the family purchasing a size large enough for their needs. Removable baskets and trays are a feature of the unit with storage so arranged that several ways can be utilized, best stored for the size of packages and containers. The unit is so constructed that it fits into any scheme of cabinet arrangement the home might have. Its exterior is white enamel with gleaming chrome trim. The ladies of Anaheim and Orange county are cordially invited to attend the three-day session of the cooking school as guests of Mahaffey-Fitz furniture. On such grounds, governments inject themselves into the affairs of their citizens, and the ultimate loss in individual liberties, the increasing bureaucracy, and the rising taxation, will be a sorry price to pay for the argument between the employers and the employees of this industry, or any industry whose product is necessary to carry on the everyday life of the people. To come back to Berlin, little by little I hope to bring out small, and otherwise overlooked points in this weekly letter. This time I speak of the recent sudden death of Zhdanov, one of the Russian representatives in the conferences over the Berlin crisis, and the man often spoken of as the probable successor to Stalin. His death, presumably unexpected, caused a recess in the negotiations, but it may have other effects. Did you recall that Zhdanov was the Russian general in the ill-fated war with Finland? Under the Russian code, he was therefore responsible for the outcome. He never ceased to blame the United States and to show that Angeles street. During World I, he served in the Infantry Sc Detachment of the Army. Surviving are his widow, Myrtle Wymore; two daughters Betty Jean and Josephine more, all of the family home, one sister, Mrs. C. M. Davis Pasadena. Entombment was in private Melrose Abbey mausoleum. Florida Citrus Mutual Not Yet Assured Florida Citrus Mutual has sign-up of 55 to 65 per cent, cording to latest reports. It believed that Mutual must 75 per cent of Florida grocers up before the organization could become effective. The recommendation of Florida Citrus commission that ternal grading standards be included in the grade and size keting program in effect in ida has been rejected by United States Department of agriculture on the ground that grading would make necessary amendment of the mark agreement now in effect in ida.
