Better Walnut Pest Control In Prospect
(Western News Service)
Promises of better chemical control of walnut pests, including marketing of new speed sprayers using a more concentrated spray at less gallonage, are seen, as an intensive walnut research program gets underway at Linden, Gridley and San Jose.
The studies, under the direction of three university of California entomologists, will concentrate on improved methods for the eradication of walnut aphids, codling moth, frosted scale, and Catalina cherry moth.
Dodgers Plan
Bury-Out Camp
Here Next Week
A search for the best rookie in the United States in 1948, the Brooklyn Dodgers will hold a try-camp at La Palma park from June 21 to 24. C. L. Swisher, North Dakota football coach who summer has joined the Dodgers their search for talent, was this week to make arrangements for the camp to which all youngsters in southern California are invited. At the time a camp for northern California aspirants will be held in Alto. They will be the two of about 25 camps to be throughout the U.S. by the owners with the cooperation of national sports magazine Arrow. The enterprise is to be known as the Argosy-Dodgers Rookie Hunt.
Mathews, head Dodger and Bob Clements, supervise for all Dodger farm teams in West, will head the large of Dodger scouts and coaches will attend the tryout camp.
Addition to the Rookie of the 20 rookies from all 25 camps chosen for a week's addition training by Dodger coaches and may expect professional baseball contracts for this or next season.
In addition to an attractive contract, the Rookie of the Year will have his own and his coach’s expenses paid to Brooklyn and they will have their way paid to the 1948 World Series, wherever the games are played.
Swisher advised youngsters planning to attend the try-out camp here to bring their own uniforms, shoes and gloves. They must pay their own expenses to Anaheim, but to those signed up here to contracts, expenses will be refunded.
Since this will be one of the first two try-out camps in the Argosy-Dodger Rookie Hunt, Swisher didn’t know how many candidates for professional baseball contracts to expect, but he hoped there would be enough for some exhibition games.

which approved the allocation of $126,900 for the work at the Orange county beach, Dean said the division could use other funds on reserve in the division of beaches.
The division had sought approval of the project as an emergency program on the basis only $26,000 remained of an appropriation for improvements at Huntington Beach.
Colonel E. C. Kelton, engineer for the park commission, requested the public works board to permit the transfer of money appropriated by the legislature for projects at the state beach at Carpenteria in Santa Barbara county. This proposal, however, was rejected by the board which suggested that director Dean help the division find other funds not committed for any specific project.
On the basis of this approval of the project, Dean said the Huntington Beach construction can be accomplished.

For example: go East on the Golden State Route low-altitude way from Los Angeles to Chicago across range and grain land of the nation. Then return on Sunset Route from New Orleans to Los Angeles via lush bayou lands, the rolling Texas plains, El Paso Southern Arizona's dude ranch country.
Or—return on the Overland Route straight across mid-continent from Chicago to San Francisco, or on Shasta Route via Portland through the evergreen Pacific Northwest.
Your choice of accommodations, too. In addition to comfortable chair cars and luxurious Stanley Pullmans, there's through economical Tourist Pullman service between Los Angeles and Chicago, Kaiden City, Houston, New Orleans, Portland, San Francisco and many other destinations.
