Announce Contest For Bicycle Club
To the lucky winner of a safety essay contest a new Schwinn bicycle will be awarded. Traffic Officer Fred Cornell, director of the Anaheim Honor Bicycle club, disclosed. All youngsters in the Anaheim school district between the ages of 6 to 14 years, are eligible to join in competition, which will close midnight, June 5.
Title of the essay is to be "The Safety in The Operation of The Bicycle." All entries, which may be addressed to the Anaheim Bicycle Honor Club, Anaheim Police Department, must be written in the competing boys' and girls' handwriting in not less than 50 words nor more than 300 words.
All entries will be judged upon the following:
1. Neatness.
2. Snelling.
3. Construction.
4. Safety value as expressed.
During the regular big bicycle matinee at the Fox Theater, Saturday afternoon, June 12, the winner of the contest will be given the shining new bicycle, courtesy of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Post No. 3173. All names will be withheld until that time.
Contest judges include Honorable City Judge L. P. Bonnat, Police Chief Mark A. Stephenson and Councilman Ray Van Wagoner, police commissioner.
The contest prize is how on display in Pete Wisser's display window, West Center street.
All competitors must be present at the big free bicycle show to win the bicycle. Cornell stated. Two attractive door prizes will go to members of the audience in addition to the grand award.
Jr. Farm Bureau Announces Dinner
The Junior Farm Bureau will hold its annual dinner Wednesday May 23, at the Rossmere Cafe. Prime rib roast is promised, in addition to good music, an interesting (but as yet unnamed) speaker and the annual election of officers, according to Alex Pelous, chairman.
