LA HABRA NEWS Harlan Heet was elected president of the La Habra Twenty-Thirty club at an election meeting held Tuesday evening, May 11, at the Don Juan cafe on Highway 101. Other officers elected include Don Herron, vice president; Paul Harris, program chairman; Lawrence Roberts, sergeant-at-arms; and Hubert Isely, Warren Cowie, Arthur Schroeder and Johnny McCamish, board of directors. Plans were made to help finance the equipping of the children's playground in the city park by painting house numbers on curbs throughout the city. Miss Bette Whitelock, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. James W. Whitelock, 524 West Erna ave., became the bride of William A. Mills, Jr., son of Mr. and Mrs. W. A. Mills, 511 West Fern drive, Fullerton, Sunday afternoon, May 16, at 4 o'clock in St. Mary's Catholic church, Fullerton. Rev. Michael J. Carlos officiated at the double ring ceremony. The church was decorated with a white carpet in the aisle, candelabra on the altar and baskets of white gladioli, white stocks and bouvardia fern. The La Habra Youth Association announced recently that membership tickets in the association are now on sale. A barbeque followed by entertainment, free to holders of membership tickets, will be held in the Union Park on East Central avenue Sunday, May 30. Proceeds from the membership ticket sale are to be used for providing recreational facilities for the youth of the city. "Bootin' Ben" Agajanian, star packer for the Los Angeles Dons, gave an interesting talk at a reheating of the La Habra Lions Club. Following Agajanian's speech movies were shown of the highlights of the Don's games last fall. Jack Cookerly, son of Mr. and Mrs. A. J. Cookerly, arranged the musical score for the extravaganza, "Fast and Fair" which was presented by the associated students of Occidental College Tuesday, May 18. Young Cookerla graduate of La Habra schools, will graduate from Occidental in January.
