SOCIAL AND CLUB ACTIVITIES (Continued from Page 3) 'Get-Asquainted Annual Dinner Big Success "Get-Acquainted" was the theme of the second annual dinner for freshmen parents held Tuesday evening at the Anaheim Union high school cafeteria, under the sponsorship of the school's Parent-Teachers Association. Mrs. Milton Kohne, president, presided during the affair, which was attended by a large group. Musical selections were played by Mrs. Leonard Diagle preceding the dinner. She led those present in the singing of "God Bless America." All parents of the freshmen class, teachers and P.T.A. staff members present were welcomed by Mrs. Kohne. She introduced board members, association chairmen and Mrs. Richard R. Roehm, president of the Anaheim Council of the Parent-Teachers' Association. Also introduced were Mrs. Paul Demaree, wife of the school principal, and Mrs. Augusta Day, a new faculty member and the school's first registered nurse. Marjorie Cranston, freshmen coed, and daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Albert M. Cranston, played a piano selection. Mrs. Jerry Nesmith and her cafeteria staff, were presented with corsages before they served the delicious dinner. The long tables were artistically arranged with fall blossoms by Mrs. New. New Classes To Begin Soon At Sewing Center The coming schedule of sewing classes being taught at the Singer Sewing Center, 170 West Center street, was announced today by Cherry Elvers, instructor. Next Wednesday the new afternoon course from 1 to 3 o'clock will begin. An evening class from 7 to 9 o'clock each Friday will start its second session October 7. In November, new classes will include a Monday afternoon class from 1 to 3 o'clock to begin November 17 and a Wednesday evening course to start its second session November 19. Of interest to teen-age misses of 12 to 16 years will be a Saturday morning class beginning this week from 9:30 to 11:30 o'clock. George Albro is manager of the Anaheim branch of the Singer Sewing Machine Company which has its district headquarters in Pasadena. Additional information concerning the seamstress classes may be obtained by calling Anaheim 4619. Current courses are being taught from 9:30 to 11:30 each morning, and from 1 to 3 o'clock each-week day. Two night classes are featured each Wednesday and Friday. A tour of classrooms was enjoyed as each parent was presented with the actual schedule card belonging to his or her boy or girl. Teachers were in their rooms to greet the parents. Royal Neighbors Plan Card Party Plans for a card party next Monday evening in KC hall on East Center street, were discussed by Anaheim Royal Neighbors during a key-meeting of county lodges held in Long Beach last Tuesday night. The public is cordially invited to attend the party here, which will begin at 8 o'clock. Mrs. Olga Ballinger, head of the Anaheim lodge, will be in charge of arrangements, assisted by several committee members. Plan Series Of 'Skish' Tourneys Alternating Sunday mornings at 9 o'clock a "skish" casting competition will be staged in La Palma Park, it was announced by the Anaheim Izaak Walton League which sponsored a highly successful tournament last Sunday morning. The second match will be October 5. Despite damp weather, more than a dozen Walton members and other Anaheim anglers gathered for an active morning featuring skish bait and fly casting. Boosted Gas Tax Adds Millions To Road Fund In its first month California's 4½ cents per gallon gasoline tax produced net highway revenues of $10,070,597. William G. Bonelli, chairman of the State Board of Equalization, made this revelation upon completion of collection of a gross tax for July of $10,818,-458, based upon distribution of 240,410,181 gallons of motor vehicle fuel. During July, 1946, when the tax rate was 3 cents, the corresponding figures were $7,185,717 derived from sales of 239,523,908 gallons. In terms of gallons, the increase was 886,274, or .37 per cent, but due to the higher rate the gain in gross tax was 50.56 per cent. ALLEC ONE OF SALES CLUB OFFICERS Leon Allec of Anaheim was elected vice-president of the Sales club of Fullerton Junior college which is affiliated with the Future Business Leaders of America national training organization sponsored by the United Business Education Association, it was disclosed by Jacob Martin, club advisor. President is John Heyden of Fullerton. Local Men In Navy Serving World-Wide Even though the last world war never yet a number of men are serving their country as well as did during the war, serving in country in the peacetime navy of occupation and any other there is left to do. Men from city as well as over the nation are continuing their patriotic duty, and among these men are Admond T. White, radioman, and class, serving aboard the cruiser USS Fresno. He has had that 50 million Frenchmen definitely 100 percent admirer of the U.S. Navy and its personnel. The cruiser on which he serving is a part of the north-European task force of Admiral Richard L. Conolly, Commodor of the U.S. Naval forces in eastern French seaport of Havre. County Bank Observes 35th Anniversary The Southern County bank last Saturday celebrated the 35th anniversary of its establishment on September 20, 1912. During the past five years, this community bank has had a remarkable growth, total resources having increased from $2,876,558 on June 30, 1942, to $11,890,009 on June 30, 1947, a growth of more than 300 per cent in this period. Officers are: R. Foster Lamm, president; James A. Baker, vice-president; Wilson W. Phelps, secretary; and H. A. Hawley, cashier.
