ORANGE HONORED FOR TRAFFIS SAFETY Orange was one of three California towns with populations between 5,000 and 10,000 to win a place on the National Safety Council's Roll of Honor. For going through the entire year of 1946 without a single traffic fatality Orange will receive a certificate of commendation. Now recuperating from a bad case of the flu is Laura Louise Karcher, of the Anaheim Building and Loan Association, East Center street. She became ill last Monday. 'Alcoholics Anonymous' Give Program "Alcoholics Anonymous" member organization of the Health Council of Orange County presented a program at the monthly council meeting at the E clubhouse, Santa Ana, last Monday night, following a short business session presided over by M. Vena Jones, PHN president. More than 250 persons representing county-wide social civic organizations and individuals interested in health and welfare attended the special session. The philosophy of "Alcoholics Anonymous" contends that alcoholism is not a vice but a diseased malignant and virulent in nature an obsession of mind arising from an emotional state and a strained physical allergy to alcohol which sets up an intolerable craving and yond human willpower, was plained by two members of the organization from Los Angeles known as P. TELL RESULTS OF COUNTY SURVEY OF TUBERCULOSIS Tabulation of the Tuberculosis X-Ray survey conducted in the county under the sponsorship of the Orange County Tuberculosis and Health Association, showed that letters were mailed Thursday notifying 626 persons of deviations other than normal. A total of 6086 negative report cards,pocket size, were mailed, Frank A. Henderson, executive vice-president of the association announced. Further chest examinations were recommended for 122 persons and cardiac examinations to 88 persons. Tuberculosis examinations were suggested for approximately 303 people to determine exposure to the dread disease because a history was given of contact with a close friend or relative. Consultation with a private physician was urged in all cases of irregularity. NAVAL RESERVE OFFICERS TO ADVISE NEW ADDRESS All Naval Reserve officers on inactive duty in the Eleventh Naval District who have not informed the Commandant of their present addresses, are asked by Captain S. C. Hooper, USN, District Director of Naval Reserve to notify the Commandant Eleventh Naval District (Officer Distribution Section) by letter or postcard of the address to which their mail should be sent. He pointed out that the current activation of Volunteer Divisions of various specialist officers will be greatly facilitated if the responsible officers have tip-to-date mailing lists. Furthermore, he stated, there are a number of medals and awards awaiting delivery which cannot be presented because the recipients cannot be located. SHANGHAI—LOS ANGELES TRIP IN 50 HOURS As another step in greatly expanded service to the orient, Pan American World Airways has applied to the Civil Aeronautics Board for a new Clipper route that will put Shanghai, China, within 50 hours of Los Angeles and San Francisco. The application is in the form of an exemption order for non-stop flights between Guam and Shanghai; a distance of 1900 miles, with a possible fueling stop at the former Japanese island of Okinawa. Date of actual inauguration of the service will be announced later.
