CHRISTIAN SCIENCE
"The Lord hath prepared his throne in the heavens; and his kingdom ruleth over all." This citation from the Psalms is the Golden Text of the Lesson-Sermon on "God" in all branches of The Mother Church, The First Church of Christ, Scientist, in Boston.
This line from the Lord's Prayer as given by Matthew is included in the Lesson-Sermon, "Give us this day our daily bread." Jesus says in John's Gospel, "My Father giveth you the true bread from heaven." Then said they unto him, Lord, evermore give us this bread. And Jesus said unto them, I am the bread of life: he that cometh to me shall never hunger; and he that believeth on me shall never thirst."
"Christ is the true idea voicing good, the divine message from God to men speaking to the human consciousness," writes Mary Baker Eddy in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures." Again she says, "Whatever inspires with wisdom, Truth, or Love—he it song, sermon, or Science—blesses the human family with crumbs of comfort from Christ's table, feeding the hungry and giving living waters to the thirsty."

Sacred Painting Given As Memorial To Marywood Central High School
Marywood Central high school is the richer this week because of the generosity of art collector, Louis Gaglaird of Los Angeles, who has presented his large oil painting of the "Crucification" by the late Henry Howman of the school.
Gaglaird has frequently displayed pictures from his large collection in the local schools and public library and takes this manner of showing his appreciation to the townspeople for their cooperation and many kindnesses to him.
The beautiful sacred picture has been on display in the public library since last Easter but on Monday the art collector presented it as a gift to the school.
Among the paintings in his collection are many portrayals of sacred subjects done by well-known ecclesiastical artists.
Gaglaird, dairyman and native of Switzerland, has collected paintings for many years and has taken particular pleasure in sharing them with the public.
He feels that local townsmen have taken a particular interest in his collection and because their keen interest he has wish to reward them with the permanent gift.

WASHINGTON
As Seen By
CONGRESSMAN JOHN PHILLIPS
We do not use the right kind of backbone starch. The kind we use evaporates too quickly. We have a peculiar system here, partially based on "seniority," under which control of a bill on the floor, and representation in the conference committee, goes to members, both Democratic and Republican, because of their positions on the committee from which the bill came to the House. It could result, and sometimes does, in the House representatives on conference committees not being in full sympathy with the actions of the House, as indicated by the votes when the bill is passed.
To a small extent this may have entered into the consideration of the bill extending Emergency Price Control. Men who had opposed the amendments on the floor could hardly be expected to fight vigorously and to a finish for those same amendments in conference committee. Also, the new Secretary of Agriculture was evidently "worked over" by administration officials when they learned he favored the amendment which gave him veto power over OPA food regulations. The next results were, the removal of the Dirksen amendment in the conference committee; the softening of the Andresen amendment, and a change in the Patman amendment.
Anderson, the new Secretary, therefore does not have any new powers of importance, in the administration of food. He is in no better shape, so far as authority goes, than was Marvin Jones or critical period, which we remember from a similar critical period immediately after World War I, now approaches. The people have patiently suffered the inexperience, the academic decisions, the lack of understanding, of the slide-rule boys, because they felt that the success of the war was at stake. Experience proves they will not necessarily submit when this feeling of war necessity is gone. The current results have been the black market and inflation; the possible results in the immediate post war period could be increased and possibly serious inflation.
The safe solution is production, proper distribution, speed in conversion, and the elimination of the duplicating authorities and the confusion which is the normal condition in Washington today.
This was written on the 4th of July. We have no more problems now, and nor more serious problems, relatively than we had on the first Fourth. We licked them then; we can lick them now. We will not lick them by swallowing Pollyanna propaganda; only the determination, in spite of everything, including the OPA and the other agencies, that we shall not have inflation and chaos in America.
Nive Sons Hear Talk on Oddities California Law
Members of the Mother Colony of the Native Sons of the San West met at the Placentia Table clubhouse Tuesday evening and heard an interesting given by Superior Court Franklin West of Santa Clara who is also a native son. Talk on "Oddities of Califor-law" was both entertaining informative. He was introduced by James Tuffree. Gerard Jones, president, presided over dinner meeting that was pre-arranged and served by members of Grace parlor.
Donald Dominguez was appoint-chairman of the historical committee that has been formed in the preservation of the northern Orange county marks.
Red Anaheim President Dies
Recitation of the Holy Rosary be held in Backs, Campbell and Kaulbars chapel tonight, Saturday, at 7:30 p.m. with Mass at Boniface church at 9 a.m. Day for Michael C. Lopez, 72, passed away at his home on Clementine street Tuesday morning. Burial will be made in Sepulchre cemetery.
The deceased was born in Olive made his home in Anaheim living his entire life. He is survived by his son, Milse of Whitman daughter, Mrs. Laura Busso from Diego; one brother, Tony Zof of Anaheim, six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Y CHECK SOON
Real Beach.—A Navy check for $20,710. Of these six sons, two are for the erection of a room dwellings. Ed M. Miller will build a $6,000 building at 524 North Olive street A. Bevillard proposes to build a $5,600 stucco house and a 114 Ellsworth street. General Citrus Products company out a $4,500 permit for addition and alteration to its store on South Atchison street. Other features a modern will be built.
H. Haney took out a permit to alter and modify his store front at 300 West Street.
Anderson, the new Secretary, therefore does not have any new powers of importance, in the administration of food. He is in no better shape, so far as authority goes, than was Marvin Jones or Chester Davis. This may shock some people engaged in the production and handling of food, for the House certainly intended to give Anderson the needed authority, the lack of which is largely responsible for the confusion in production and distribution. The Congressional Record will support that statement.
I personally think the President wanted him to have that authority. Otherwise how, or why, could the President say that the meat situation would be corrected in the near future (which I now consider impossible)? The President obviously wanted to give Anderson authority, and to back him up.
But the President was fishing for fish in Washington, and fishing for world peace in San Francisco, and Anderson was here in Washington, without his friend. It is reported that Bowles, Vinson and Davis met with Anderson, and in the words of that great philosopher, Charlie McCarthy, "mowed him down." The House amendments were changed as a result.
Congress, believing that it was representing the thinking of the people, has again been defeated by men who have not had to go back to the people for approval of their decisions or actions. Anderson, instead of starting his new job with authority, starts it under the handicap of having people think he has more authority than his predecessors, a difficult position. The President MUST back him up. I am certain the President WILL back him.
The war draws to its close. The ganda; only the determination, in spite of everything, including the OPA and the other agencies, that we shall not have inflation and chaos in America.
