Demonstrate New Treatment for Citrus Disease
Four additional field demonstrations are announced by Farm Advisor Harold E. Wahlberg to be held next week to show the new method of treatment for scaly bark disease of orange trees perfected by Dr. H. S. Fawcett, pathology department of the citrus experiment station. The orchards where the demonstrations will be conducted by the far madvisor are located conveniently in each community for public attendance, as follows:
El Tóro—July 11, 10 a.m., Ray Prothero orchard, one-half mile south and one-fourth mile east of El Tóro.
San Juan Capistrano — July 11, 2 p.m., Carl Hankey orchard on Ortego highway, two miles east of the mission.
Garden Grove—July 12, 10 a.m., J. W. Crill orchard on Haster street, second place north of Chapman avenue, one mile west of the county hospital.
Tustin—July 12, 2 p.m., S. W. Stanley orchard, near corner of Tustin avenue and Main street, second place west.

Tax Collections For County Set New High Record
County Tax Collector Don Mozley reports that an all time high payment of 99.25 per cent of the total charge against the taxpayers has been made for the fiscal year that closed June 30, and said that but $62,554.06 remains due out of a total tax bill of $6,297,938.11.
He lauded the taxpayers for promptness in making payments and said the bulk of them were in long before the April 20 deadline.
He stated that this payment blanks "slightly" the previous record-high payments of the last two years of 99 per cent each.
For the fiscal year just closed, a total of $6,291,946.92 has been collected and this includes payments for special and sanitary districts.
The payment total includes $4,-233.61 in penalties applied at rates of three per cent of delinquency bills since the deadline date of April 20 and $1,754.50 in costs of advertising plus $2.88 in interest.

Annual Report In Excellent Fi
The annual report of Kate Rea, secretary-treasurer of the Anaheim Public Library shows that the financial of the institution is in shape with the balance July 5, amounting to At the same time there was a decrease in book circulation 4,038; Miss Elizabeth Librarian reported. The ending in 1944 had a circulation decrease over its previous year that in the past two circulation has decreased 890. Driver Injured In Auto Accident
Allen L. Turner, Jr., of 128 South Kroeger street, suffered minor injuries last Thursday when his car collided with one driven by Eleanor A. Rios, 125 South Elm street. The minor accident occurred in front of the city hall on East Center street.
Turner was taken to a private physician for treatment of head injuries.
USES Offices Now Close at Noon On Saturdays
The Santa Ana and Fullerton offices of the United States Employment Service are now closing at 12 noon on Saturdays, it was announced today.
The order became effective last Saturday, July 7. The new closing hour will be in effect until further notice.
Disease Rate Drops in County
Contagious diseases in Orange county are at their lowest point in many months, it was disclosed this week by County Health Officer Dr. Lee Russell. In the past two weeks only 147 cases in all were reported, or less than half the total of two weeks ago when 318 cases were reported.
Chickenpox cases dropped from 108 to only 38 and red measles dropped to 28, the lowest mark of 1945 to date. There were two cases of three-day measles and other communicable diseases listed were: mumps 22; pulmonary tuberculosis 1; whooping cough 27; gonorrhea 3 and syphilis 13.
Buena Park School Bonds Sold to Bank
The bonds of the Buena Park school district recently offered for sale was purchased by the Bank of America, bidding at one and one-half per cent with a premium of $529 for the entire issue dated June 1, 1945.
These bonds will mature each year in the amount of $6000 from June 1, 1946 to June, 1970. The total amount of the bond issue as recently voted is in the amount of $150,000.
Tustin Youth Enrolled in Bible School
TUSTIN.—One hundred and thirty students are registered in the Tustin vacation Bible school that is being held at the Presbyterian church.
Instructors are six young women from the Lockman Foundation who are under the supervision of the district superintendent, Miss Nadine K. Warner.
11-Year-Old Girl Injured in Fall At Fullerton Park
Barbara Gaines, 11, of 615 South Helena street is in the Fullerton Cottage hospital suffering possible internal injuries as a result of a fall Sunday evening at Hillcrest park.
According to the police report she was running down a hill and fell from the embankment on her head. The accident occurred at 7:15 p.m.

Consumers and dealers holding stove purchase certificates on record-high payments of the last two years of 99 per cent each.
For the fiscal year just closed, a total of $6,291,946.92 has been collected and this includes payments for special and sanitary districts.

Stove Purchasers Warned By OPA
Consumers and dealers holding stove purchase certificates on which deliveries have not yet been made, were warned today by the office of price administration to exchange them for the new revised form before July 31, when the old issue will become invalid.
Dealers will have an additional period, through Aug. 15, in which to effect the exchange for the new form, while distributors will be allowed until Aug. 22.
After these dates the war price and rationing boards will not accept the old form for exchange.
County Officials To Get Pay Raise
Sacramento. — Governor Earl Warren has signed bills raising the pay of Orange and Riverside county officials. Orange county officials receiving pay increases include the auditor, $3,600 to $5,100 a year, and district attorney, $5,000 to $8,000 a year.
Increase of Riverside county officials are as follows: auditor from $3,600 to $4,500 a year; district attorney from $5,000 to $6,000 a year; members of the board of supervisors, $2,100 to $2,400 and actual traveling expenses; grand jurors from $2 to $5 a day and 10 cents a mile mileage, and trial jurors $2 to $3 a day and 10 cents mileage.
Annual Report Shows Public Library In Excellent Financial Condition
The annual report of Miss E. Kate Rea, secretary-treasurer of the Anaheim Public library, for the year ending June 30, 1945, shows that the financial condition of the institution is in excellent shape with the balance on hand July 5, amounting to $6,440.58. At the same time there has been a decrease in book circulation of 4,038, Miss Elizabeth Calnon, librarian reported. The fiscal year ending in 1944 had also shown a circulation decrease of 6,852 over its previous year of 1943 so that in the past two years book circulation has decreased by 10,-890. This is probably largely accounted for by the fact that during the busy wartime years fewer people have had the leisure to read and study.
Miss Rea further reported that total receipts for the fiscal year amounted to $26,769.79 while total expenditures amounted to $20,329.21. Expenditures were made in the following manner: binding, $216.11; books, $2,492.65; convention and membership, $52.16; custodian and substitute, $1,610; express, freight and postage, $16.37; heat, $94.40; incidentals, $28.41; insurance, $121.75; lawn and grounds, $520; magazines and newspapers, $345.81; repairs, $1,539; salaries, $11,-819.10; salaries and substitutes, $912; supplies, $432.61; telephone $98.84 and typewriter repair, $30.

There were 418 new-adult card holders and 268 new juvenile card holders. Total number of card holders were 4,309 adults and 2,184 juveniles.
In addition to books the library also contains 2,261 pamphlets; 35 maps; 2 globes; 4,703 prints; 29,-864 unbound reference magazines; 144 current magazines received regularly and 13 newspapers received regularly.
The report also included a list of juvenile library activities including a vacation reading club that had 266 boys and girls enrolled. Twelve story hours were held during the summer vacation with an average attendance of 42 while the Christmas story hour was attended by 108 children. Celebration of Pinocchio's 16th birthday anniversary on March 31 was attended by 106 children. Miss Elva Haskett is junior librarian.
The junior library celebrated the 26th National Book week and 522 visitors registered. During the year three book displays were exhibited, two at Horace Mann school and one at a meeting of the "Tots and Teens" mother's club. Meetings of the P.T.A. were attended by the librarians and book reviews were given by Miss Margaret Bradley. Books were sent to the Y.M.C.A., Girl Reserves and Zion Lutheran summer camps.

Pvt. Gilbert Roscoe Baker, 24, is receiving his basic army training at Camp Ellis, Chicago, Ill. He was inducted into the army a month ago. A native of Anaheim he attended local schools and Anaheim Union high school where he was a star football player and track man. He took his senior year at Los Angeles Jefferson high school from which he graduated and then attended business college in Santa Ana for two years. His mother, Mrs. J. W. Carroll, resides at 222 Elm street.

Delinquent taxes for all years amounts to only $427.82 which is the lowest they have ever been.
