Cpl. John W. Davis Back From Europe, At S. A. Air Base
SANTA ANA, CALIF. — Tech. Fifth Grade John W. Davis, son of Mrs. Emma Davis of Anaheim, is currently assigned to the AAF Redistribution Station No. 4 at Santa Ana Army Air Base.
Cpl. Davis, entered the service on June 5, 1943, and went overseas in December, 1943. He is entitled to wear the European theater ribbon.
At this redistribution station, an Anaheim Bomber Crew Member Awarded Air Medal
15TH AAF IN ITALY. — Sgt. Raymond F. Cruz, son of Mr. and Mrs. Raymond F. Cruz, 315 W. Chestnut St., Anaheim, Calif., engineer-gunner on a 15th Air Force Liberator bomber, has been awarded the Air Medal. The announcement was made by Lt. Col. Leroy L. Stefonowicz, Wildrose, N. Dak., the group commander.
Since arriving overseas in November, Sgt. Cruz has taken part in seven combat missions against strategic targets throughout Europe. He was awarded the Air Medal for “meritorious achievement in aerial flight while participating in sustained operational activity against the enemy.”
A graduate of Anaheim Union high school, Sgt Cruz entered the army in June of 1943. He completed gunnery school at Tyndall Field, Fla., and airplane mechanic school at Keesler Field, Miss., before coming overseas.
WINS PROMOTION
As a result of a recent promotion Corwin E. Roquet is now Technical Sergeant Roquet his wife, Helen, of 531 South Indiana street, learned recently. He is serving in Italy with the Fifth Army and is with the 91st division.
PERMANENT DUTY
Following 17 months overseas Lee Thaxton, aviation machinist's mate, USN, and son of Mr. and Mrs. M. P. Thaxton of 116 North Resh street, has just received his new assignment and will have permanent duty at the Alameda Navy base. James Wright, whose hometown is Rt. 2, Box 293 heim, is now in “Boot” as an apprentice seaman U.S. Maritime Service West Coast base at Cataland; it was announced to Lt. (jg) J: F. Grundeen, E Officer at 514 W. 6th Street Angeles. Wright is busy the knowledge and exp that will enable him to the “Victory Cargo” to ouring forces and allies through the world.
The Maritime Service, now accepting men between ages of 17 and 50, offers portunity for redblooded cans to become seamen country’s Merchant Marine is playing such a vital winning the war.
ANAHEIM SIGNAL CORPS ADVANCED IN RANK
According to official notice the Army Service Forces, Signal Corps Training Fort Monmouth, N. J., to from California were consigned second lieutenants school's graduating exercise week. Included in the gr new officers was Joseph T sho, Jr., son of Mr. and Mr Kopsho of route two, Box 2 heim.

At S. A. Air Base
SANTA ANA, CALIF. — Tech. Fifth Grade John W. Davis, son of Mrs. Emma Davis of Anaheim, is currently assigned to the AAF Redistribution Station No. 4 at Santa Ana Army Air Base.

At this redistribution station, an operation of the Personnel Distribution Command, combat returnees of the AAF receive complete medical examinations, classification interviews and reassignment to domestic stations of the Army Air Forces.
LOCAL RADIO-GUNNER WITH FRANCE FORCES
ANINTH AIR FORCE BOMBER BASE, FRANCE. — Corporal Charles J. Mcolick, Jr., a B-26 Marauder radio-gunner, recently reported for combat duty with the "Crusader" group commanded by Col. Thomas G. Corbin somewhere in France.
Corporal Moolick, whose home is on Route 1, Box 160, Anaheim, Calif., is now participating in vital bombing raids against Nazi installations, railway bridges and communications lines in active support of Allied army ground forces on the German front.
HAS 2ND PROMOTION
Mr. and Mrs. William LeVecke of North Helena street received a letter this week from their son, Reed, and the letter contained information that he has been promoted to captain in the U.S. Army. Capt. LeVecke is serving in the European area as an aerial engineer. This is his second promotion in the past year.

Memorial Service Sunday at White Temple for Soldier
A public memorial service to honor the memory of Ben Foland, U.S. Army, who gave his life in the service of his country last January, will be held at the White Temple Methodist church this coming Sunday at 12:30 o'clock following the morning public worship hour. The service will be conducted by Rev. Thomas L. Burden, pastor.
The deceased was serving in Germany with a communications unit at the time he lost his life. He was formerly from Anaheim though prior to entering the army made his home in Buena Park.
BACK FROM PACIFIC
Lt. (jg) Gordon J. Frey, U.S.N.R. is back in Anaheim after 14 months in the Pacific theater of operations where he has been flying with a search-plane squadron. His wife maintains the family home at 205 South Citron street.

Pvt. Ora Lee Miner, 25, Mrs. Rilla Miner of 305 East street is in a hospital in recovering from wounds ridden in the European theater of tions. While first reports were not as serious as thought and he expects to rejoin his outfit before long. His wife, the former Banks of Santa Ana is not in that city. They have no ren.
Pvt. Miner was wounded 24 while serving with the Airborne division in Belgium has been recommended for Purple Heart. He has been service more than two years has served overseas for the 17 months. He participated D-Day and the Holland invade He attended Anaheim school graduated from the A Union High school. His b Harry is a corporal in the in the South Pacific and has overseas for more than years.
Local Man's Out Blasts Way With Sight of Po Valle
WITH THE FIFTH AITALY—Pfc. Glen G. H truck driver, 117 South Phila, Anaheim, Calif., is a member of the 337th Field Artillery talion, whose 105-millimeteritzers recently enabled capita Mt. Grande, retention of Mt. taglia and a view of Ital Valley. Clearing the way for feature of Mt. Della Tombe, cent to Mt. Grande, they gained a position within distance of Castel San Pie Highway 9.

The 337th landed in North America December 1, 1943 and the Fifth Army the following rauary, going into action at turno on the Garigliano last March 2. Its howitzers reduce the Gustav Line, clear way for the advance through mia, Itri and Fondi and, from Mt. Fate, broke holes Hitler Line.
Most spectacular feat of 337th was relief of 45 infant hemmed in on three sides Germans supported by fires tillery, mortars and eight se pelled guns. Firing pro bursts, the howitzer crews out the entire German bar staff, killing the commanding cer, reduced three company half strength, silenced a two battery and forced enemy tar crews to withdraw.
The 337th entered the Line fight at Mount Altuzza,uced Firenzuola and Cascia Rio and displaced to Pazzolo where they softened up th my with 400 rounds fired days. Its howitzers took the out of waves of counterattack infantrymen on Mt. Prat and Mt. LaFina, with another 989 rounds of ammunition.
The 337th fired 55,468 rounds in October, bringing total to 130,351 rounds fired.

ANAHEIM MAN IN BOOT’ TRAINING AT CATALINA BASE
James Wright, whose home address is Rt. 2, Box 293, Anaheim, is now in “Boot” training as an apprentice seaman at the S. Maritime Service’s great West Coast base at Catalina Island; it was announced today by t. (jg) J: F. Grundeen, Enrolling Officer at 514 W. 6th Street, Los Angeles. Wright is busy gaining the knowledge and experience that will enable him to deliver the "Victory Cargo" to our fighting forces and allies throughout the world.
The Maritime Service, which is now accepting men between the ages of 17 and 50, offers the opportunity for redblooded Americans to become seamen in our country’s Merchant Marine which is playing such a vital part in winning the war.
