Clubwomen Shown Their Part In National DeEvery Woman Should Participate
First Lady Asserts In Los Angeles
Clubwomen's part in defense work was revealed today following an especially planned meeting at the Hotel Ambassador in Los Angeles last week when the First Lady, Mrs. Franklin D. Roosevelt, conferred with Mrs. John Sterns Thayer, president of the California Federation of Women's clubs.

Many facts and much information was given but the following instructions apply especially to our defense work:

3. Every woman should find out how to make windows secure in order to have a complete black-out.
4. More air wardens are needed, so sign up.
5. Immediately send your collected registration cards to the nearest Defense Council.
6. There is a demand, which will be greater, for women trained in nursery school work. This should offer our young women an oppor-

"Blitzkrieg," the lightning war employed today, is nothing new but was practiced successfully 400 years ago in Peru, according to Dr. Rafael Loredo, South American historian.
In the rebellion of 1544 in Peru, an outstanding general, Francisco de Caryajal, nicknamed, "Demon of the Andes," was in the habit of crossing and recrossing the high mountains with his infantry, cannon, and ammunition at great speed, which often resulted in the surprise and capture of village and town without resistance.
