AUTHOR REX MILLER IS FEATURED AT FIRST FALL MEETING OF EBELL CLUB MONDAY AFTERNOON Rex. Miller, noted author and foreign correspondent, was the featured speaker at the first fall meeting of the Ebell club Monday afternoon in the clubhouse when Mrs. Albert Raymond assuming her office as president. Mr. Miller, who was introduced by the first vice president, Mrs. Sid McGraw, chose for his tpoic, "Behind the Headlines." He enumerated several events that have taken place in England, France and Russia and declared that the war of today is in truth only a part of the plan of Hitler to dominate the entire world. His manner of speaking and his use of pertinent facts gave the 200 listeners a favorable impression of the newspaperman. A luncheon served by the October committee, headed by Mrs. Eva Boyd and Mrs. John Anthony preceded the program. Mrs. J. E. Craddock, Mrs. E. H. Weber and Mrs. John Wood were in charge of stage decorations; and Mrs. L. A. Benner and Mrs. Lloyd A. Burrows arranged the tables in a Hallowe'en theme. The luncheon speaker, Mrs. Reuben Day, president of the Orange County Federation of Women's clubs, was introduced by Mrs. Raymond. Others introduced were Mrs. D. Jerry Yungs, America citizenship; Mr. A. P. M. Brown, literature; Mrs. F. H. Weisel, history and landmarks; and Mrs. W. M. Kelsey, radio. Section reports were presented during the business session. Mrs. G. B. Greder gave a report on the home and garden section; Mrs. One Hundred Attend Y.L.I. Card Party One hundred guests made up the 25 beautifully decorated tables for contract, auction, whist and "500" yesterday afternoon when the Y. L. I. Group of Anaheim held a benefit card party at the lovely home of Mrs. Alice Callens, on Cerritos St. Large dahlias made up the floral arrangements in the house. Earlier in the afternoon the guests were entertained in the garden of the home. Prizes in contract went to Mrs. E. Hackley of Anaheim and Alice McCarthy of Fullerton. Mrs. Ella Bolz of Anaheim won the "500" prize. Mrs. G. Foster of Fullerton and Mrs. Mable Meric of Santa Ana took the auction bridge prize, while Mrs. Rose Gussens of Anaheim won in whist. Dainty refreshments were served following the awarding of the prizes. Mrs. Pete Fluor and Mrs. May LeBeck was co-chairmen of the event, the proceeds of which will go to the social welfare fund of the organization. POST-NUPTIAL AFFAIR HONORS MRS. LA PORTO Mrs. Nick La Porto, the former Eleanor Rogers, was honored with a post-nuptial shower at the home of Mrs. F. LeRoy Marsh at 300 N. Janss St. Tuesday evening. Hostesses were Mrs. Peggy Hoag and Mrs. Anita Nankervis, daughter of Mrs. Marsh. THETA RHO CLUB OFFICERS TAKE CHAIRS LAST WEEK Officers of the Omega chapter of the Theta Rho girls' club of Orange county were installed by the Alpha chapter of the Los Angeles club last Wednesday evening in Santa Ana. Marie Smith and Lillian Murdugh, both officers of the Theta Rho assembly, were in charge. Officers who officially took their respective chairs were Dorothy Ragsdale, president; Betty Swenson, vice president; Thelma Swenson, recording secretary; Winona Christenson, financial secretary; and Maxine Tyreman, treasurer. Mrs. Mabel Ives and Mrs. Gladys Smith, members of the board of control of the Theta Rho clubs, were introduced as were Blanche Cartmell and Elenore Cozad, new members. Special guests were Mildred Allen, marshal of the Rebekah assembly; Ethel Brown, district deputy president; and Jack Taylor, district deputy grand master of the Odd Fellows lodge. It was announced that the Omega chapter will be in charge of the installation ceremonies of the Inglewood and Campton chapters during this month. Co-chairman planning the decorations for Wednesday night were Maxine Tyreman and Marguerite Folger. Marilyn Rogers was in charge of refreshments. Friis included the Mesdames J. H. Wilmore, Ray Reafsynder, Cortez Hoskins, Stuart Streshly, Fayette Birtcher, Maurice Shirk, Sam Walker, Chester Shirk, Virgil Harmon, Wayne Griggs, Paul Demaree, Robert Kenney, Timothy Wallace, P. M. Wheeler, N. R. Booth, Denise Remillard, John Henry, O. A. Mansen, Arthur Roquet, James A. Baker, R. J. Mahoney, Elvin Meadows and Dan O'Conner. Delegates were named to attend the district convention on October 24. They are Mesdames C. W. Austin, H. G. Graf, Mary Jane Anderson, E. V. Kelsey, John Ecchtman, M. C. Mason, C. O. Lewis and P. M. Philathea Class Has Regular Meet The Philathea Class of the Salem Evangelical Church met at the home of Mrs. Oscar Bengston of 128 Vine St. Tuesday evening for a regular business meeting with its president, Mrs. Alma Hamann. Mrs.LaPorto is a graduate of Manual Arts high school and Santa Ana junior college where she belonged to Iota Alpha Phi, Spinsters and the Topperettes.She is employed at the J.C.Penney Company and will continue to work. The recent bridegroom graduated from Anaheim high school,belongs to the 20-30 club and is on the Home Guard. At the ceremony,the former Miss Rogers wore a mint green dress with luggage accessories. School of Fine Arts Plans to Present Program Mrs.Kate E.McCullah,director of the Orange County School of Fine Arts, announces an unusually fine program for Saturday,October 18.at the Anaheim high school auditorium. Five grand pianos will be featured in ensemble numbers by more than 50 young artists.A chorus of 75 voices will sing folk music and a special arrangement the Inglewood and Campton chapters during this month. Co-chairman planning the decorations for Wednesday night were Maxine Tyreman and Marguerite Folger.Marilyn Rogers was in charge of refreshments. Classic Guild to Give Scenes from Shakespeare Friday "Great Scenes from Shakespeare" presented by the Classic Guild of New York City will be given tomorrow at 8 p.m.at Marywood school. Selected scenes include Julius Caesar with Gray Carpenter as Brutus and Stanley Gobleigh as Marq Anthony;Hamlet with Mr.Cobliegh playing the title role and Joan Beckwith as Ophelia;Macbeth with Mr.Cobleigh again in the title part with Mrs.Bekwith as Lady Macbeth and Mr.Carpenter as Porter; As You Like It Taming of the Shrew,also with a with a featured cast of players. Eifert performed the ceremony that made Miss Gertrude Klausing, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William Klausing of Anaheim, and Gerhard Clasen, son of Mr. and Mrs. William Clasen of Santa Cruz, man and wife Friday evening in the Zion Lutheran church. The former Miss Klausing wore a white slipper satin gown with a train and fingertip length veil. She carried a bouquet of white chrysanthemums, roses and bouvardia. The maid of honor was Miss Nina May Miller, cousin of the bride. She was dressed in maise-colored taffeta and held a nosegay of roses and chrysanthemums. Misses Doris Rasmussen, Evelyn Brunworth and Dorothy Clasen were bridesmaids and were gowned in chamois, antique-gold and gold-dust taffeta respectively; They had chrysanthemum bouquets. The flower girl was little Miss Lois Eifert wearing a dainty light yellow gown with matching flowers. Harold Clasen, best man, and ushers Arnold Clasen, Edward Clasen and Henry Klausing completed the wedding procession. Mrs. Al Dutzi, accompanied at the organ by Walter Knigge, sang "Oh Father All Creating" during the ceremony. Nearly ninety guests attended the short reception afterward and Mrs. Klausing received in a navy blue gown. The bride is a graduate of Anahigh school and Fullerton junior college. Schlosser of this city, was honored at a layette shower given by Mrs. Erick Anderson and Mrs. Kent Middleton at Fullerton Thursday afternoon. After a luncheon, the table of which was centered with a pale pink and blue delphinium bouquet with favors of pink and blue nutcups, games were played. Miss Sharen Ross, niece of the honored guest, brought in the gifts to her aunt in her little baby buggy. Mr. Mang has just returned from a session of the sovereign grand lodge in Des Moines, Iowa. The girls of the Omega Chi Theta Rho club also were on the program. Announcement was made by Mrs. Vernice Summers that the Past Noble Grands’ Association will meet tonight at the home of Mrs. Nina Law and that the next meeting of the lodge will be a public card party. Miss Betty Swenson of Santa Ana introduced the girls on the program that followed Mr. Mang’s talk. Entertainers included Miss Rosine Roy, vocalist, accompanied by Miss Patty Allis; Hazel and Merton Fogler, vocal duetists, accompanied by their sister, Marguerite, pianist; and Miss Frances Kester, pianist. In charge of refreshments were Mr. and Mrs. Charles Ahlstrom, Mr. and Mrs. Edgar Reisinger, Vernice Summers, Adele House.
