Veterans Register For Home Defense
Registration of all veterans in Anaheim area for national defense purposes is being undertaken this week by the Anaheim American Legion post, according to Commander Carleton A. Starr. The work was begun Monday night during a meeting of the post and will be continued until Feb. 22.
The 28 questions deal with the veteran's present occupation, physical condition, dependents, past service and lines of endeavor in which he is best qualified to serve his nation. It was stressed that the veteran will not be liable for military service as the result of filling out the questionnaire.

NOTICE TO CONTRACTORS
Sealed proposals will be received at the office of the State Highway Engineer, Room 808, State Building, Los Angeles, California, until 2 clock p.m. on February 27, 1941, at which time they will be publicly opened and read in a room of said building to be designated on the day bids are opened, for construction in accordance with the specifications therefor, to which special reference is made, of portions of State Highway as follows:
Los Angeles and Orange Counties at East Fork of Coyote Creek one and three-tenths (1.3) miles west of Buena Park (VII-L., A., ORA-175-C), a reinforced concrete slab bridge to be constructed and about three-tenths (0.3) mile of approach roadway to be graded and surfaced with plant-mixed surfacing.
In accordance with the provisions of Section 1770 of the Labor Code, the Department of Public Works has ascertained the general prevailing rate of wages applicable to the work to be one to be as follows:

In accordance with the provisions of Section 1777.5 of the Labor Code, as amended by Chapter 971, Statutes of 1929, and in accordance with the regulations of the California Apprenticeship Council, properly indentured apprentices may be employed in the prosecution of the work.
In accordance with the provisions of the State Contract Act, prospective bidders must file with the Department of Public Works answers to questions contained in a standard form of questionnaire and financial statement including a complete statement of their financial ability and experience in performing public works. Standard forms of such questionnaire and financial statement can be obtained from the State Highway Engineer at his office.
Public Works Building, Sacramento. The Department of Public Works will not furnish proposal forms to prospective bidders who have not submitted such questionnaire and financial statement for prequalification at least five days prior to the date fixed for publicly opening sealed bids and been prequalified for at least one day prior to said date.
No bid will be accepted from a Contractor who is not licensed in accordance with the law, under the provisions of Chapter 791, Statutes of 1929, as amended, or Chapter 37, Statutes of 1929, as amended, or to whom a proposal form has not been issued by the Department of Public Works.
Plans may be seen, and forms of proposal, bonds, contract, and specifications may be obtained at the office of the State Highway Engineer, Public Works Building, Sacramento, California, and they may be seen at the offices of the District Engineers at
Enes Wiley, Former Resident Here, Dies
Enes Wiley, 86, resident of Anaheim for some time until moving from here about 10 years ago, died Sunday at Yucaipa. Funeral services were conducted this (Wednesday) morning from Backs, Campbell & Kaulbars chapel, with Rev. Earl R. Berg officiating. Burial was made in Anaheim cemetery.
Wiley leaves six sons, four daughters, 29 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren tnd two great grandchildren. The sons are George of Los Angeles, Ray of Compton, Sam of Whittier, Frank of Scramento, Walter of Monrovia and Everett of Los Angeles. The daughters are Mrs. Minnie Maddox of Yucaipa Mrs. Emma Maddox of Whittier, Mrs. Etta Riley of Compton and Mrs. Mae Nordie of Santa Barbara.
