Anaheim Trounces Alhambra Sunday
Athletics Gather 13 Hits in Trimming Visiting Club by 12 to 4 Score
Joe Huarte's Anaheim Athletics enjoyed another field day last Sunday at La Palma park, their first in three week, when they trounced the Alhambra Merchants, 12 to 4. Thirteen safe hits, plus nine errors by the visitors, accounted for the top-heavy margin.
The Glimpse brothers, Jim and Carl, and Skeet Gregg divided pitching duties for the Athletics, and limited Alhambra to seven hits. The invaders weren't able to score more than one run in inning, getting single tallies in the first, sixth, seventh and ninth rounds.
Anaheim virtually cinched the contest in the first round when three runs were registered and a trio of hits and two errors. The Athletics followed up with one in the fourth, added four in the fifth, slammed across three in the seventh, and topped off their work with one run in the eighth.
Sorenson and Horton divided hitting honors for Anaheim with three safeties each, sharing the top spot with Alhambra's secondbasemen, Mathews.
Gas Range Campaign Launched This Week
A trade-in allowance double that ordinarily will be the feature of cooperative southern California-wide "certified performance" gas range sales campaign launched this week by gas range dealers, manufacturers and the gas company, it was announced by Fred G. Merker, district manager of Southern Counties Gas company.
Booster Body to Discuss Aviation
Aviation will be the topic for the meeting of the Associated Chambers of Commerce of Orange county, to be held at Henry's Drive-In cafe on Highway 101, south of Anaheim, next Tuesday evening, according to President Floyd McCracken. William Crofoot and Howard Irwin will be in charge of the meeting.
A representative from some major airplane manufacturing plant will present his viewpoints as to what Orange county may do to procure some of these factories, and how the county may apply itself to the housing of employees, McCracken announced.
Total earnings of the airline companies for the first five months of 1940 probably were close to $1,500,000, in contrast to an aggregate deficit of $339,000 in 1939.
