Understanding of Mexicans Sought
Dr. Redewell Speaks Before Merchants Association This Morning
A plea for better understanding of the Mexicans residing in Orange county was sounded to members of the Anaheim Merchants association this morning at the Marigold cafe by Dr. E. H. Redewell, assistant county health officer.
Dr. Redewell traced briefly the history of the Mexican in California, pointing out that many thousands of them have migrated to this state during the present century. "Up until about four years ago, they were able to make a fair living, averaging about $800 a year," he said. "But during the past four years the influx of migrants from the Dust Bowl has cut down the income of the Mexicans to about $400 a year on the average."
The speaker, in comparing the Mexican and the Dust Bowl migrant as agricultural laborers, said that the former is much more satisfactory and dependable, quoting several instances to support his contention. One of the important differences between the two, he said, is that the Dust Bowl man feels "we owe him something," while the Mexican accepts what he finds.
Much money is spent, the speaker said, by the county health department among the Mexicans, but that is true because it is one of the best ways of protecting the American population. The Mexican are no more disease spreaders than the whites, except in tuber-
SUMMER RECREATIONAL ACTIVITIES OF HOBBY HOUSE BOYS REVIEW
"Many groups as well as private individuals have contributed to the success of the summer program of Hobby House, which has provided an organized plan of recreational activities designed to appeal to the individual boy and to meet his particular physical needs." This was the statement of Harry Birdsall, supervisor of activities at Hobby House, home for underprivileged boys at 214 Owens drive, Santa Ana, in commenting on the variety of vacation activities.
The boys were the guests of the Santa Ana Optimists club at King's Landing, Newport Beach, where a night of fishing was enjoyed.
A personal copy of "Six Men and War," Senator Ernest Lundeen's last speech, July 11, came to me only 24 hours before the news was received of his tragic death in the nation's worst air disaster near Washington. Senator Lundeen's address was a scholarly discussion of the now famous documents the Germans declared they had discovered in the archives of conquered Poland.
While speaking in the Senate that day, July 11, Senator Lundeen displayed photostatic copies of the documents mentioned. They might be forgeries, he said, but he feared they were genuine. They involved certain embarrassing conduct of Ambassador William C. Bullitt and Ambassador Joseph P. Kennedy. Team Match Carded On Wrestling Show
A team match featuring the Masked Yellow Terror and his manager against Ignacio Martinez and El Pulpo will highlight the wrestling show next Monday night at the Orange County Athletic club. They will go to a finish.
A second feature will be another finish match pairing Bobby Bruns against Tom Zaharias. Preliminary bouts bring Hardy Kruskamp into the ring against Rudy LaDitzi and Hans Steinke against Tiny Roebuck.
Twice as many passenger-miles (550,000,000) were flown on American airlines in 1937 as on all European airlines combined.
Kennedy. Holding up a copy of the German White Paper, now quite common, Senator Lundeen demanded an investigation of the whole matter. Speeches by the President and others, he said, led him to suspect the documents were genuine.
Careful reading of the late Senator's speech confirms the suggestion I made a week ago, that many of our representatives abroad ought to be called home and kept here in close confinement where they could not further involve us in other people's business.

NATIONAL ACTIVITY BOYS REVIEWED
As guests of the American Legion post of Santa Ana the boys attended the Fourth of July celebration held in the Santa Ana cowl.
Ernest Winbigler entertained the boys on a chartered boat trip. Excellent fishing was enjoyed off the shores of San Onofre and loved the high light of the exposition.
The Assistance League of Santa Ana extended to the boys at Hoboken House an invitation to the annual Horse show, which the boys attended en mass.
William Robinson of Tustin was most generous in turning over his summer home at Newport Beach to the boys of Hobby House, who enjoyed this hospitality for one week during July. Fishing was the most popular sport during the week with swimming and boating being for second place.
Through the cooperation of the Boy Scouts, Camp Rokoli was made available to the boys of Hobby House for a three-day camping trip which brought to a close a most successful summer season of supervised recreation.
The boys, several of whom were taking their first over-night stay in the mountains, were fascinated by the variety of birds and animals to be found in the vicinity. Taking and nature lore were of great interest to the boys and it was not without some recollection that they made preparation for the trip home Friday evening.
At unlike thousands of boys throughout the country, the boys of Hobby House look forward to this fall semester with varying degrees of enthusiasm. The summer, with its multiple opportunities for recreation and fellowship, has been vast improvement in the attitude and outlook of the individual and a spiritual development well as physical growth has been observed, Birdsall said.
