MORE ABOUT RECIPES (Continued from Page 5) Combine dry and wet ingredients as in method for muffin given above. If desired, eggs may be separated and well beaten whites folded in last. This cake is better served warm. Length of baking time depends upon size of pan. This cake may be topped with any preferred coffee cake glaze. Broiled Grapefruit Cut grapefruit in half. Sprinkle each half with 1 tbsp. sugar and place cooked prune or cherry in center. Broil. Serve Ben Hur percolator or silex coffee. SECOND DAY Filled Date Bars 1 cup Crisco, 1 cup sugar, 2 eggs, ½ cup sour milk, 5 cups flour, ¼ tsp. soda, 1 tsp. K. C. baking powder, 1 tsp. salt, 1 tsp. vanilla. Blend Crisco, sugar, and eggs together. Add sour milk, then fold in flour which has been sifted with salt, baking powder, and soda. Roll this dough out to two sheets as large as the baking pan. Spread one with Date Filling. Cover with the other sheet of dough. Bake in moderately hot oven (375 degrees). Cut in strips while warm. Filling 2 cups chopped dates, ½ cup water, 1½ tbsp. chopped onion, 1½ cup grated American cheese, ¾ tsp. salt, ½ tsp. pepper, Dash paprika, 3 eggs, 1 cup drained cooked canned vegetables. Pour the scalded milk over the bread crumbs. Add butter, pimientoes, parsley, onion, grated cheese, and seasonings. Then add the well-beaten eggs. Put the vegetables in a greased 1½-qt. casserole, and pour the milk-and cheese mixture over them. Set in a pan of warm water and bake about 75 min. In a moderate oven of 325 degrees F., or until the loaf is firm. Serves six. Ribbon Sandwich Loaf Remove crusts from a day-old Weber loaf of white and of whole-wheat bread. Cut two lengthwise slices from each. Spread slices with preferred sandwich filling and tier into loaf, alternating whole-wheat and white bread. Soften 3 packages of "Philadelphia" cream cheese with milk and spread all over the loaf. Place in refrigerator for an hour before serving. Garnish with parsley and cut in crosswise slices. Macaroni Papoose 1½ lb. macaroni (broken into 4-inch lengths), Thin slices of ham or cold meats, Horseradish sauce, 1/3 cup milk, Grated cheese. Cook macaroni until tender. Drain. Spread slices of ham or cold meat with macaroni, horseradish and cheese. Roll slices and which have been marinated in ginger ale. Sweet potato balls may be cooked at the same time by placing under the rack before starting to broil ham. One variation of potato balls is: 2 cups canned sweet potatoes, 2 tbsp. melted butter, ¼ tsp. pepper, 2 tbsp. peanut butter, ¼ cup cream, 1 egg, ½ tsp. salt. Form in balls and roll in grape nuts. THIRD DAY Maple Date and Nut Bread Shred 1 cup dates, add ¼ tsp soda to them and 1 cup boiling water. Mix together 1 well beaten egg, ½ cup maple syrup, and 1 tsp. salt. Add dates and soda water, then fold in 1 cup pastry flour, one cup wholewheat flour, tsp. baking powder. Beat thoroughly. Add ½ cup pecan meat and 1 tbsp. melted Crisco. Bake at 325 degrees F. 60 to 75 min. Brush with maple syrup when baked. Angel Food Cake, Supreme 2/3 cup granulated sugar, 1½ cup powdered sugar, 1 cup cake flour, 1 1/3 cup eggs whites, ½ tsp. salt, 1 1/3 tsp. Ben Hur cream o tartar, 1¼ tsp. Ben Hur vanilla. Few drops Ben Hur almond extract. Beat egg whites with a wire whip to a foam, add cream of tartar, salt, vanilla and almond extract, all at one time, then beaten Blend Crisco, sugar, and eggs together. Add sour milk, then fold in flour which has been sifted with salt, baking powder, and soda. Roll this dough out to two sheets as large as the baking pan. Spread one with Date Filling. Vegetable and Cheese Casserole 1½ cup scalded milk, 1 cup soft bread crumbs, ¼ cup melted Crisco, 2 canned pimientoes, chopped, 1 tbsp. chopped-parsley, Garnish with parsley and cut in crosswise slices. Macaroni Papoose 1½ lb. macaroni (broken into 4-inch lengths), Thin slices of ham or cold meats, Horseradish sauce, 1/3 cup milk, Grated cheese. Cook macaroni until tender. Drain. Spread slices of ham or cold meat with macaroni, horseradish and cheese. Roll slices and skewer or tie together. Place in shallow baking dish with 1/3 cup milk. Bake in moderate oven (325 degrees) for 35 minutes. Serve hot, with dish of crushed pineapple to sprinkle over each "papoose" as desired. When steak is nicely browned on one side, it will be about half done; season, turn, and brown on the other side. Only one turning is necessary. For a two-inch steak allow 35 to 40 minutes to be medium done. Serves three to four. Scroggins, 80, were conducted yesterday afternoon from Hilgard funeral home, with Rev. C. Isham, former pastor of the Aheim Nazarene church, officiating Burial was in Fairhaven cemetery. Mrs. Scroggins, a resident southern California for 20 years died Monday evening. She is survived by two sons, C. A. Scroggins of Oklahoma and A. J. Scroggins of Fullerton; four daughters, M.W.A. Broyles of Westminster; Mrs.Ora Zimmerman and Mrs.A.A.Blackwell of Texas, and M.W.T.Estep of Missouri; a brother two sisters, 24 grandchildren. ANNIE ROSS Funeral services for Mrs. Ann Ross, 90, were conducted Monday afternoon from Backs, Terry Campbell chapel, followed by tombment in Fairhaven mound. Mrs.Ross died Friday at home of her daughter, 214 Adele street, with whom she lived for some time. Mrs.Ross survived by three sons and other daughters, 10 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
