Cardenas Pledges Highway Support Increased tourist and commercial trade between California and Mexico looms as the result of an announcement that President Lazaro Cardenas of Mexico has just pledged $1,120,000 for construction on the International Pacific highway between Mexico City and the United States. Official confirmation of the executive's assurance of financial aid was received this week by H. W. Keller, vice-president and director of the Automobile Club of Southern California from Carlos V. Ariza, secretary of the Mexican central committee working for development of the western road connection with this country. This committee, composed of business, agricultural and administration leaders of western Mexico recently arranged issuance of bonds to secure two million pesos. President Cardenas promised to double the bond subscription from federal funds. The new international highway is routed along the west coast of Mexico via Guadalajara with Nogales, Arizona, the northern terminus. Definite promise of federal support assures construc-tion to modern standards of the Mexican link in a highway which will eventually extend from Fairbanks, Alaska, to Buenos Aires, Argentina. New Highway to Gulf Advocated Possibility that San Felipe on the Gulf of California, 135 miles south of the Mexican border and Mexicali, may develop into a popular resort and fishing center for California motorists is seen in prospects of a highway between the two points. A federal appropriation from funds allocated for highways in Lower California will be requested to build the Mexicali-to-Gulf highway. A detailed survey of the route was made during a trip by Assistant Engineer H. F. Holley of the Automobile Club of Southern California. G. Brenneis, supervisor of the Cleveland forest. Brenneis issued this statement recently, stating it is useless for residents to come to the local forest office for permits. On the northern California forests permits are issued and commercial sales are made, Brenneis stated. The cutting is done under the supervision of forest rangers, and is done in the nature of a thinning or stand improvement. "If the Cleveland national forest allowed the cutting of Christmas trees, it would only be a few years before the forest would be stripped," Brenneis said, explaining the restriction against cutting. Auto Club Honors. 37th Anniversary In reaching the 37th annual milestone since its founding December 13, 1900, the Automobile Club of Southern California Monday celebrated a career that symbolizes motoring history in this area. In the early years the pioneer members, banded together for mutual benefit and protection, conducted two-day "runs" over rough or muddy trails to such "distant" points from Los Angeles as Riverside, recalls a statement from the club. They energetically opposed undue restrictions on use of the new "horseless carriages"; incorporated to provide motoring services; fought for good roads and just legislation. The woman was taken to the Anaconda sanitarium for treatment. The woman was injured when automobiles driven by J. I. Patterson, also of Belvedere Gardens, and Lewis F.
