W. Rhodes were hostesses at a shower given Saturday afternoon at the Miss Strodthoff's home on Virginia road, Los Angeles. The co-hostesses are cousins of the honored guest. Assisting in the hostess duties were Mrs. O. W. Strodthoff and Miss Geraldine Strodthoff, mother and sister of the hostesses. Mrs. Richard Ryan, Mrs. Marion Fort and Mrs. Kenneth Walker of Anaheim received prizes following the bridge games. Invitations to the event were sent to Mrs. F. A. Marriage Unites Miss Peggy Paige, Clay Bruington Announcement was made this week of the marriage of Miss Peggy Paige to Cassius Clay Bruington, which took place at Mexico City on October 9. The news was revealed by the bridegroom's mother, Mrs. Bessie Bruington. The bride is the daughter of Dr. and Mrs. George A. Paige of Zeyn street. Marriage vows were exchanged at a formal Spanish wedding. The civil service was performed by the American council to Mexico while a religious service was conducted in the evening. The new Mrs. Bruington was touring Mexico with her parents and was visiting with friends at Mexico City. Mr. Bruington flew to the southern capital for the wedding. Both the young people attended elementary schools here and were graduated from Anaheim union high school with the class of 1928. Mr. Bruington continued his education at the University of Southern California. He was affiliated with Theta Psi fraternity. His bride attended the University of Arizona and later an art school in Los Angeles. Mr. and Mrs. Bruington will be at home after November 1 at Oceanside where Mr. Bruington is employed with the soil erosion conservation service. Center Anaheim SOCIETY Fifty-Fifty Club Plans Annual Inaugural Party The annual inaugural party of the Southern California Fifty-Fifty club will be held at the El Mirador in Palm Springs November 13 and 14, it was announced this week by C. William Queale, secretary of the organization. Arrangements have been completed for a formal dancing party to be held Saturday evening. Another feature of the week end will be the informal inaugural dinner Sunday evening. New officers to be seated include Wayne Harrison, president; LeRoy Burns, secretary; and Jack Bruning, James Tuma, Everett Lutz, James Fleming, and Stanley Norton, directors. The annual golf tournament will be staged with the perpetual trophy going to the winner of low net; other awards to the winners of low gross and blind bogey. Fred Pressel and Family Arrived Here 50 Years Ago Fifty years ago next Wednesday, on November 3, 1887, G. Fred Pressel, his wife, and their oldest child, Carl, arrived in Anaheim from Bavaria. They were welcomed at the home of Louis Schoen who had been a friend of the family in the old country. Insurance Girls Service Club Newly Organized The third meeting of the recently organized Insurance Girls Service club, Orange county chapter, was held last Thursday evening in Daniger's cafe, Santa Ana. Paul Ragan of Hartford Fire Insurance company was the speaker, choosing as his topic, "The Average Clause." The organization is open to all women who are employed in insurance offices throughout the county. The purpose of the club is educational as well as social. Miss Evelyn Gurfee is the only charter member of the Orange county chapter from Anaheim. Meetings are held each third Thursday of the month at Daniger's cafe. Credit Important Business Factor One of the most important branches of any business is the credit department, is the opinion expressed by J. F. Faulkner, secretary-manager of the North Orange County Credit Bureau, Ltd. This association, a member of the Associated Credit Bureaus of America, was organized in Anaheim 25 years ago, starting as a function of the Anaheim chamber of commerce. Its growth has been so great that for the past several years separate offices have been maintained in the Bank of America building and a staff of eight persons employed. The bureau is owned by its Walton Chapter Founded in 19 The Anaheim chapter of Izaak Walton league was organized January 21, 1932, just years after the national organization came into existence. W. nucleus of 25 members the center has grown into one of the cosmopolitan groups in the city with an active membership of some 200 men who live in the preservation of outdoor heritage. E. C. Evans served as president of the group for the first and William Trapp, Jr., direct its activities for the succeed two years. Much credit is tended them for the remarkable progress the chapter has made its efforts to solidify sport interest in conservation man. One of the outstanding accomplishments of the chapter that of starting the move that led to check overgrazing national forests by sheep. The Anaheim chapter is a ordinating body for sports ideas affecting the management woods, waters and wild life. Other past presidents of Izaak Walton chapter here Fred Hays and Lars Lund. ward R. All Saints Day to be Marked Monday A celebration of the holy munion will be held at Michael's Episcopal church Monday morning at 10 o'clock commemorating All Saints day was announced yesterday by Fred Pressel and Family Arrived Here 50 Years Ago Fifty years ago next Wednesday, on November 3, 1887, G. Fred Pressel, his wife, and their oldest child, Carl, arrived in Anaheim from Bavaria. They were welcomed at the home of Louis Schoen who had been a friend of the family in the old country. With the exception of about five years which were spent in Oregon and Monrovia, the Pressel family has made Anaheim their home since their arrival. For 38 years the family resided at 228 W. Santa Ana street, but not long ago Mr. Pressel moved to his present residence at 403 E. Broadway. When Mr. Pressel returned to Anaheim in 1893 he purchased a blacksmith shop which was located on West Center street, operating it for several years. Mr. and Mrs. Pressel were the parents of two daughters in addition to their son, Carl. They are Mrs. Katy Van Atta, who was born in Oregon, and Mrs. Maggie Hoag. All of the children reside in Anaheim. Ruthann Hatfield Complimented by Marion Lee Riley Miss Ruthann Hatfield was the guest of honor at a shower given last Thursday evening by Miss Marion Lee Riley at her home, 714 N. Los Angeles street. The hostess was assisted by her mother, Mrs. Harry D. Riley, and her sister, Miss LaRae Riley. The honored guest will soon become the bride of G. E. Newlin. Various games were played during the evening with prizes being awarded to Miss Wanda Marshall, Miss Helen Bennett, Miss Ada Mae Stankey, Miss Evelyn Maahs, and Mrs. Riley. Following the games Miss Hatfield was directed to her gifts by various notes. Invited to the shower were Mrs. Norton W. Hatfield, Mrs. Louis A. Fisher, Mrs. Don Baer, Miss Helen Hopkins, Mrs. George W. Hatfield, Miss Helen Bennett, Miss Ada Mae Stankey, Miss Grace White, Miss Elizabeth Baker, Miss Evelyn Maahs, Mrs. Roy Dargatz, Miss Wanda Marshall and Missange County Credit Bureau, Ltd. This association, a member of the Associated Credit Bureaus of America, was organized in Anaheim 25 years ago, starting as a function of the Anaheim chamber of commerce. The bureau is owned by its members. More than 100 business and professional men and women of northern Orange county hold membership in the bureau. It is a non-profit organization and is governed by a board consisting of Harry I. Horn, president; O. H. Renner, and George Easton of Anaheim; and August Wiese, Kurt Epstein and E. B. Bolander of Fullerton. Approximately 10,000 credit reports were given to members last year, Faulkner said. A collection department is operated in connection with the credit bureau. It serves members and non-members alike and is managed by A. L. Raymond. Revenue from Sale of Gasoline Gas Gasoline sales continued to crease throughout California in September, with the state amounting to $4,523,409.84, board of equalization reported.
