Gloves and Hose Are Shown in Newly Effective Colors There is something new about every fashion, and there is something new in every accessory trend, which after all serves to dramatize fashion. Handbags favor suede, because it permits the soft detailing which is consistent with a season of dressmaker influence. But there are many models in calf and in grained leathers as well. Probably in line with the return of 1900 inspirations, is the favor being shown top handles, whether single or double, short enough to clasp, or longer in more tailored types. The more tailored the bag, the larger the shape, but the dressier bags are smaller—almost dainty in design. Shirrings and drapings which are seen in dresses are repeated in bags, as are jeweled, marcasite and corded accents. Gloves, too, express the new elegance, with the fur button style, stitched in detail, developed in all leather and fabrics for leading popularity. There are tailored novelties to wear with suits; suede and glace combinations for softer fashions; hand-sewn slip-ons for spectator wear, shorties for the youthful effect, and fabrics with capeskin trim for dressy gloves that aren't too expensive. Because so many of the new dresses favor the push-up and below-the-elbow sleeve, women will go shopping for longer gloves which will meet them almost all the way, covering the expanse of flesh for a more "dressed" impression. The outstanding new thing Arrangement of Living Room of Modern Home Important Feature Both as a family life center and as a "show place" for guests, the living room has probably the biggest responsibility of any of the rooms in the house. In this room every member of the family must feel that his every need is attended to, and at the same time it must be ever ready to extend hospitably to callers—to convey an impression that makes your words of welcome ring true. Each living room logically should have three furnishing groups, conversational, reading, and writing. In smaller rooms perhaps the first two may be combined, or the second and third. The important thing to remember is to provide the necessary place for each purpose. Each group must have at least three pieces to qualify for a group—a chair, table and lamp. Other pieces may be added, depending upon the space available. The prime value of the group plan lies in the ease it provides in maintaining the proper balance between the different pieces, at the same time preserving that atmosphere of simplicity and informality which is so desirable. Arrange first the conversational group, with davenport and love seat, armchairs and occasional chairs, and the essential tables and lamps. As the center of interest for this group, you may have a fireplace, or a pair of French windows, a radio, or an impressive piece of furniture. In placing the furniture make sure that the conversational element is maintained—bring the pieces close enough together so that people can feel pleasantly at home. The grouping should promote and induce neigh- ottoman. Whenever two chairs are used in a group, remember to use contrasting types. A writing group is a practical addition to any living room. In desk styles there is almost limitless choice—the colonial, Spanish, knee-hole, secretary and kidney types are among the most popular. For a room without a fireplace, an attractive center of interest may be arranged by adding a tall pier bookcase on each side of a low desk, using the upper shelves for colorful bric-a-brac. None of the groups should be shut off from the rest of the room. Set them out in "L" or "U" shapes, with the open part facing more or less toward the center of the room. This arrangement not only makes each piece more accessible but also tends to hold the room together as a unit. And as in all of this season's fashions, sleeves are fascinating, particularly around the shoulders, with width suggested by means of dropped lines, darted, tucked, and pleated treatments.
