Several Vacancies Marine Corps has Lt-Colonel Tom E. Thrasher, Jr., recruiting officer for the U.S. marines, announced that beginning this date all applicants who pass the required examination will be accepted in the marine corps and immediately sent to San Diego for their limitia training. When the U.S. fleet returns from the present maneuvers many of the marines serving aboard the men of war will be Primary Pupils Offer Program for Mother's Day Pupils of the first and second grades of Katella school presented a Mother's Day program at the school last Friday afternoon. Mrs. Ida Timmons, teacher, was in charge of the program. Each mother was presented with corsage of pansies and a picture of her child. The students made the presentations. A resolution of condolence to Mrs. Samuel Kraemer and family, expressing the city's grief at the death of Samuel Kraemer was introduced by Council F. A. Yungbluth and unanimously adopted. One new employee in the city engineer's office and five new employees in the park department were authorized by the council, at the same time setting the scale of wages for the employes. The new employee in the engineer's office will be designated as office engineer and will receive a salary of $175 per month. The position has not been filled. Salaries Raised A park guard, drawing a salary of $100 per month, a plunge cashier receiving $110 per month, two plunge attendants at 55 cents per hour and two matrons at 50 cents-per-hour were authorized. The same number of persons was employed last summer at a slightly lower wage scale. The lease with the Southern Pacific railway company for land on West Lincoln avenue previously used as the location for a sign was terminated. The sign has been moved to Lincoln and Manchester. Transfer of $12,989.30 from the unappropriated reserves to the general fund was approved.
