NOTICE INVITING SEALED PROPOSALS FOR ADVERTISING NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that scaled proposals will be received by the City Council of the City of Anaheim at the office of the City Clerk of said city up to eight o'clock P.M. of Tuesday, the 11th day of May, 1937, for furnishing of all advertising for the City of Anaheim for the year commencing May 24, 1937, and ending May 24, 1938, all of said publishing to be done in conformity with the specifications for advertising, which specifications are marked and designated "Specifications for Printing and Advertising of the City of Anaheim, Series of 1933" on file in the off- Drunken Persons Cause One-Fifth of Auto Mishaps Drunken drivers and pedestrians are becoming an increasingly serious menace to street and highway traffic, the Automobile Club of Southern California safety department warned this week. At least 617 of the 2838 fatal auto accidents in California in 1936, or about 21 per cent, killing 678 persons, involved drivers or pedestrians who had been drinking. Intoxicated pedestrians have become as great a menace as intoxicated motorists, it is noted. Since 1929 the number of drivers who had been drinking prior to becoming involved in accidents has multiplied by more than four, while crashes involving drinking pedestrians have increased five times. Last year pedestrians under the influence of liquor were involved in 1169 accidents killing 211 and injuring 958 persons. Convictions resulted for 97 percent of 14,887 persons haled into court in 1936 under various vehicle code provisions relating to drunking drivers, the report shows. Suspended sentences or probations were given 2045, 4229 were sentenced to jails and road camps, while the rest received fines. Each proposal must be accompanied by a certified or cashier's check drawn on a bank within the State of California in a sum not less than Fifty ($50.00) Dollars, payable to the City of Anaheim, the same to become the property of the City of Anaheim if, within ten (10) days after the award of the contract to him, the successful bidder shall fail to enter into a written agreement with said of one of the moving jobs in southern Californias approximately electrical transmittent equipment for the inter- between the California Edison company and was announced Lewis, Edison president and general installation of the company's station, near now in progress. An eight-mile an away from the Vestal switch-ing station 40 miles north of Bakersfield to the Magunden station, six miles south of that city, the $235,000 shipment of three heavy transformers, hoisting equipment and tank cars of transformer insulating oil arrived safely at its destination. Nine hours were required for the moving operation, with the equipment being handled like the proverbial basket of eggs. The three transformers, each of 25,000 kva capacity and each weighing 138 tons in operating position, were each emptied of their 15,500 gallons of oil and stripped down to 80 tons for the 46 mile train trip. Each transformer stood nearly 17 feet high above the bed of the special flat cars. The lifting and transfer apparatus which with the transformer parts also made up a part of the cargo stood even higher above the car beds and cleared the state highway bridge just north of Bakersfield by only a few inches. The extreme height of the shipment, as well as the tremendous weight, made speed on the rails prohibitive and necessitated frequent siding stops to clear the main line for other trains. The installation of the transformer equipment at the Edison Magunden station is one of the first steps in preparation for the inter-change of large blocks of power between the Edison system and the Pacific Gas & Electric company system, including its subsidiary company, the San Joaquin Light and Power corporation, Lewis said. It is anticipated that the interconnection will be completed and in operation July 1. Through the facilities of the interconnection the Edison company will be enabled to make available to the Pacific Gas & Electric company a portion of the generating capacity of the Edison company's Big Creek-San Joaquin River hydro-electric plants. The Edison company will utilize Boulder Dam power to meet a portion of the needs of its southern California system. When the new interconnection is completed, the Pacific Coast will be supplied with a continuous network of high voltage transmission lines extending from the Mexican line to the Canadian border. The results will be increased protection against emergency demand power and greater flexibility in the camps, while the rest received fines. Each proposal must be accompanied by a certified or cashier's check drawn on a bank within the State of California in a sum not less than Fifty ($50.00) Dollars, payable to the City of Anaheim, the same to become the property of the City of Anaheim if, within ten (10) days after the award of the contract to him, the successful bidder shall fail to enter into a written agreement with said city to furnish said advertising in conformity to said specifications. The City Council reserves the right to reject any or all proposals, or any part of any proposal, and may accept proposals separately for advertising required by law to be published in a daily newspaper, for advertising not required by law to be printed in a daily newspaper, but required by law to be printed each issue for a definite period of time.
