Evening Clinic Established For Sufferers of Venereal Diseases
By K. H. Sutherland, M. D. Health Officer
In line with the State Health department program to make veneral disease treatment more available to those persons who cannot afford to obtain it for themselves, the Orange county hospital clinic has arranged for evening clinics for the treatment of both syphilis and genorrhoea. The clinics will be held at the county hospital from 7 o'clock to 9 o'clock on each Monday evening commencing Monday, April 12. The clinic will be run in conjunction with the regular veneral disease clinic held on Wednesday morning of each week and is arranged for those who cannot attend the morning clinic for some reason satisfactory to those in charge of the clinic. New cases will continue to be admitted through the Wednesday morning clinic as heretofore, and will be transferred to Monday evening if the circumstances warrant such transfer. These treatment clinics at the county hospital are only for those financially unable to secure treatment themselves.
In emphasizing the importance of a comprehensive veneral disease control program in every community, public health authorities do not want to frighten and alarm anyone unnecessarily, but we do feel that the public should realize the seriousness of the present situation. We know that there must be many cases of veneral disease in the community not now under treatment since the total number of veneral disease cases in the community reported to the health department is below the average found in similar communities throughout the country. Every case of veneral disease must receive proper treatment or serious and perhaps lasting complications will result. On the other hand, infected cases seeking early treatment need not fear serious results from veneral infection since an effective means of cure has been available through the medical profession for many years.
A simple rule for every person to follow, is to first of all take every precaution against infection, but if there is question of possible exposure, he should go to a doctor for an examination and blood test. The blood test is not expensive but if there is no money to pay for such test, it can be secured through the hospital clinic or

A simple rule for every person to follow, is to first of all take every precaution against infection, but if there is question of possible exposure, he should go to a doctor for an examination and blood test. The blood test is not expensive but if there is no money to pay for such test, it can be secured through the hospital clinic or through the health department. In fact, it would be reasonable for everyone to secure such a test as a matter of routine. It is especially important for every expectant mother to ask her physician for such a blood test no matter what her station in life or past circumstances. If such a procedure were followed, congenital syphilis would become a thing of the past since a syphilitic mother can have a normal child if antisyphilitic treatment is started early in pregnancy. If the patient who has the veneral disease has placed himself in the care of a physician or clinic, he must literally do everything the physician tells him since it is only in this way that he can get well and avoid passing the disease on to someone else.

Ninth Symphony to End Concert Year
Otto Klemperer's Los Angeles Philharmonic orchestra season, following a crowded 20 weeks of programs that offered almost as many concerts as the 24 weeks formerly did, will come to a brilliant close Saturday night, April 24.
At this time the Ninth Symphony of Ludwig Van Beethoven will drop the curtain on the 1936-37 offerings both of the pair concerts and of the six-concert, all-Beethoven cycle with the latter having proved its popularity through the largest box office response in the history of the organization.
The Philharmonic chorus, under Dr. Richard Lert, will be heard with four chosen soloists. Soloists will be Felix Knight, tenor, Charlotte Boerner, soprano, Clemence Gifford, contralto, and Emery Darcy, bass.

grown to a size undreamed of a few years ago and seldom realized by the grower. For example, during the past season 77,500 tons of juice grade valencia oranges were used by the juice and concentrate manufacturers, for which they paid an average price of $30.00 per ton. This is equal to approximately 2,712,500 eld boxes at an average price of 86 cents per box.
"The most significant fact about this volume of fruit is that a few years ago these same oranges would have returned the grower almost nothing."

Railroads to Offer Low Fiesta Fares
Special summer excursion rates to San Francisco for the Golden Gate Bridge fiesta May 27 to June 2 will be put into effect by all western railroads according to announcement by Eric Cullenward, general manager of the fiesta.
A round-trip "party rate," about one and one-tenth of the regular one-way fare, will be established for groups of 15 or more upon application to the railroads. Anyone using the "party rate" must come to San Francisco with the group but may return home individually.
FINISH ROAD
Shoulder construction is underway on a newly paved 3.6 miles section of the inland route in San Diego county between Lake Hodges bridge and Escondido. Traffic is using the completed pavement, advices the Automo-Club of Southern California. The entire work will probably be completed by May 15.
There are 50,000 to 75,000 workers in the average beehive.
