CHRISTIAN SCIENCE CHURCH
"Surely God will not hear vanity, neither will the Almighty regard it." Those words from the book of Job are the Golden Text in the Lesson-Sermon on "Unreality" on Sunday in all Christian Science Churches, branches of The Mother Church, The First Church of Christ, Scientist, in Boston, Massauchesetts.
The Lesson-Sermon includes these Proverbs: "Happy is the man that findeth wisdom, and the man that getteth understanding. My son, let not them depart from thine eyes: Keep sound wisdom and discretion: . . . Then shall thou walk in thy way safely, and thy foot shall not stumble. When thou liest down, thou shalt not be afraid; ye, thou shalt lie down, and thy sleep shall be sweet. Be not afraid of sudden fear, neither of the desolation of the wicked, when it cometh. For the Lord shall be thy confidence, and shall keep thy foot from being taken."
A correlative passage from "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," by Mary Baker Eddy, states: "Christian scientific practice begins with Christ's keynote of harmony, 'Be not afraid!'"

Where Giant Air Liner Plunged 13 to Death
Total deaths in the nation's major commercial air disasters in the last three months rose to more than 50 when this giant Transcontinental and Western Air liner crashed near Pittsburgh, taking 13 lifesaving rates of per unit craft or type of work. The accident marked by federal investigation in an effort to determine the cause of the disaster. The ship, on miles from Pittsburgh's Allegheny airport when it cracked up, ripped its cabin to splinters and ently brought instantaneous death to all of its occupants. TWA officials said they believed the was due to ice forming on the plane's aileron a few minutes before it was to land. This would made control of the ship impossible.

The MARCH OF TIME
Prepared by the Editors of TIME The Weekly Newsmagazine
SWALLOWS TO CAPISTRANO—
SAN DIEGO — Of the legends clustered about the historic mission of San Juan Capistrano, founded by Fra Junipero Serra in 1776 on California's const between Los Angeles and San Diego, lowest is the tale that for 200 years migrating swallows have arrived at the mission each year on March 19 (St. Joseph's Day), flown south again on Oct. 23 (St. John's Day). Last week on March 19, for the first time, the swallows' arrival was recorded with newsreel cameras, radio broadcasting equipment.
On March 18, as usual, an advance guard of several hundred swallows winged in from the ocean, circled the mission, flew back to sea. Happy at that yearly signal were the mission brothers engaged in digging and watering a big mud-hole from which the birds would draw material to repair their hard-baked, saucer-shaped nests. Next dawn a crowd gathered on the mission grounds, all eyes peering out to sea. Sure enough, sharp at 5:56 a.m., 40 minutes after sunrise, a lowering cloud appeared on the horizon, Grew bigger and bigger until it all but blotted out the mission sunlight, making the air loud with the beat of thousands of narrow wings. Suddenly, while the rest flew on to the canyons beyond, a great segment of the swallow cloud broke off, swooped down on the mission. Then began Capistrano's annual battle of birds as the swallows fought to drive interloping swifts and sparrows from their last year's nests.

State's Sales Tax Proves Effective
California's retail sales tax is the most effective of any such tax levied in the United States.
This was evident in a report prepared by the research division of the Illinois state department of finance, comparing results obtained in the 12 states in which sales taxes are in force. Using figures for the last fiscal year, the report showed that California' was far ahead from the standpoint of gross collections, with a total of approximately $73,000,000.
Compared with this, Illinois, which also has a 3 per cent tax, collected only $64,000,000 including levies on food and gasoline sales. If these items were included in the California tax, the total for the year under consideration would have been approximately $91,000,000, state board of equalization officials estimated.
