Formal Opening of Drug Store Now Being Held
The formal opening of the McCoy Drug store, located at Center and Los Angeles streets, is being held this week end and is marked by a store-wide sale, according to L. I. Ferrell, manager of the new concern. The store was opened to business last Monday.
McCoy Cut Rate Drug stores were started in Santa Ana 15 years ago by Paul V. McCoy, who now supervises distribution of merchandise from the Santa Ana warehouse to the company's eight stores in Orange and Los Angeles counties.
A staff of 12 persons will be employed at the new store with Don Hinkley, a registered pharmacist, and Mrs. Florence Peet as chief assistants to Ferrell.
The fountain, which will serve all three meals, is operated by Mr. and Mrs. Alva Turner, formerly of Pomona and Los Angeles.
The store occupies a space 40 by 60 feet in area. The interior has been completely made over with new fixtures and fountain. The concern will be open from 7 o'clock to 10 o'clock daily, it was announced, with a registered pharmacist on duty at all times.
Rites for Cypress Resident Conducted
Funeral services were conducted from the Hilgenfeld funeral home Monday morning at 10 o'clock for Mrs. Caroline Weekly, 74, a native of West Virginia, but a resident of Cypress for more than 10 years, who passed away Wednesday at the Los Angeles hospital after an extended illness.
The Rev. V. B. Wheeler, pastor of the Nazarene church of Cypress, officiated and interment was made at Loma Vista cemetery.
Mrs. Weekley is survived by one daughter, Mrs. L. L. Cotter of Wiehita, Kansas, one son, Gordon Weekley of Casper, Wyoming and a number of grandchildren.
Blaze Extinguished By Alert Officers
Anaheim police officers, while cruising around town late Saturday night, extinguished a fire which threatened to damage awning on a downtown store, according to police records.
A trash box on the Clementine street side of the Mother Colony wine store was ablaze shortly after midnight just under the awning. Officers succeeded in putting out the fire before any damage was done.
Drunk Driver Fined for $150 by City Judge
Driving an automobile while intoxicated and operating his car without a driver's license brought Nolan Harris, 35, Kress avenue Garden Grove, a heavy sentence when he appeared before City Judge Frank Tausch yesterday morning.
Harris was ordered to pay a fine of $150 or to spend 75 days in the county jail.
The Garden Grove man was arrested at 7:15 o'clock Tuesday after he had driven his automobile into a grease pit at a service station in Anaheim.
Vagrant is Ordered To Get Out of City
Marion Egbert, 23-year old vest worker from Nebraska, yesterday was given a suspended sentence of 30 days on condition he leave the county when he appeared before City Judge Frank Tausch and pleaded guilty to charge of vagrancy.
Egbert was arrested early Monday evening. He told the court he had hoped to obtain work here as a smudger.
Kenneth Dawson, 23, all booked for vagrancy following arrest last night, was given a similar sentence this morning by Judge Tausch.

County History Talk Concluded
Continuation of the history of
the founding of Orange county by
W. W. Wieman, principal of the
Lathrop evening high school of
Santa Ana, featured Tuesday's
meeting of the Anaheim Kiwanis club at the Elks clubhouse.
The speaker told of the efforts
of Mr. Spurgeon and Mr. McFadden is securing legislation that brought the county into being and also outlined the selection of Santa Ana as the county seat after alterations of the original county boundaries barred Anaheim from that honor.
Glenn Merrill was program chairman.
Harry C. Arthur and James Casto furnished amusement for the members, which included the raffling of a live pig which was won by Charles Smith. Proceeds of the raffle went to the charity fund.
The annual Christmas program for children will be held next Tuesday, it was announced.
John Morgan Heads Committee for Ball
Plans for the annual President's Birthday ball to be held January 30 are again under way with the announcement of the appointment of John Morgan, manager of the Anaheim Elks club as general chairman. Morgan served in that capacity last year.

Methods of operation of the vocational guidance department of Fullerton junior college were outlined to members of the Anaheim Business and Professional Women's club last Thursday evening by L. O. Culp, head of the commercial department of the school.
The department makes a study of the student and his background in an effort to find a compatible field of work for the individual as well as placing the student in a promising position, the speaker said.

John Morgan Heads Committee for Ball
Plans for the annual President's Birthday ball to be held January 30 are again under way with the announcement of the appointment of John Morgan, manager of the Anaheim Elks club as general chairman. Morgan served in that capacity last year.
Horace Benjamin, manager of the Bank of America, has also been reappointed treasurer of the fund.
The Elks clubhouse is expected to be the scene of the affair as it was before.
Organizations will Discuss Yule Gifts
A meeting has been called of representatives of all organizations giving Christmas baskets to needy families of Anaheim for next Monday afternoon at 2 o'clock in the city welfare office at the city hall.
The purpose of the meeting is to check lists of all organizations to prevent duplications. Mrs. Mona Price, welfare department superintendent, said.
The city, as in the past, will supplement baskets given by organizations and distribute a few other baskets in addition.
Reaching from Car Is Accident Cause
Parents who allow children to extend parts of their bodies out of moving vehicles are creating a distinct traffic menace, and members of the California Highway Patrol have been instructed to stop this practice. E. Raymond Cato announced today.
"When children are passengers in moving motor vehicles," the patrol chief said, "they should not be allowed to reach or lean out of windows. The danger to children is real and following motorists are confused."

will be held at the Women's clubhouse in Garden Grove Monday,
