He had taken as his subject "Reallsm in Modern Literature." In his discussion of the change in literature from the idealism of the 16th and 17th centuries to the materialism of the modern literature Dr. Baxter traced the history of the two great themes of literature, that of war and romance. Speaking of war, he stated that the World War left only grim abstractions, and no particular hero to celebrate the romance of war.
The speaker then compared modern style of light literature with that of a few years ago. He told of the comparison in love stories. In the older literature there was a very definite line between the deep-dyed villian and the good, good hero which has lost its interest in modern demand.

Local Man Victim of "Snatch Party"
