Troy Gridders Pointing For Cougars To Prevent Upset In Saturday's Game
Team Finds Itself In Second Period of Utah Game and In Second Half Run Wild to Score Four Touchdowns; Rough Spots Revealed In Opener Ironed Out by Headman Jones
Southern California's Trojans settled down today to preparing a warm reception for Washington State's Cougars who come down from Pullman this week-end to open the Pacific Coast Conference season against Troy.
Twice during Coach Howard Jones' seven-year coaching career at Southern California the Cougars have come through with surprise wins over S. C., and Troy's "head man" is pointing his team for Saturday's meeting at the Olympic Stadium just as serious as though the opposition were being furnished by a Stanford or a Notre Dame. Washington State's 7 to 6 victory in 1930 gave the Cougars the conference championship and was the only league defeat suffered by the Trojans during the past two seasons.
Ironing out rough spots revealed in last Saturday's game with Utah, scrimmage sessions Tuesday and Wednesday afternoons, dummy work during the latter part of the week to perfect execution of plays and at least a half hour every day on the fundamentals of charging, blocking and defensive play were on Coach Jones' workout schedule for the week.
Southern California will need plenty of potency in its line defense if the Trojans are to stop the mighty George Theodoratos, Washington State's slashing fullback about whom Coach Babe Hollingbery has been building his power attack this season. Theodoratos, the great Greek athlete from Sacramento, weights 240 pounds, is six feet, two inches in height and packs unusual speed for a man of his size.
With Theodoratos as a constant threat at line pounding and with a passing attack built around a veteran backfield and set of ends to keep the defensive backs from crowding in close to stop the Greek star, the Cougars are expected to give the Trojans plenty of

UTES PROVE THREAT
DURING FIRST HALF
Not unty "Whitey" Warburton was sent in as sub to Orv Mohler in the second quarter of the game last Saturday against the University of Utah team did the Trojans begin to function like the team of old. The backfield, with the exception of Mohler and Clark, was inexperienced, and the boys didn't click during the first quarter, while the visitors showed a surprisingly alert aerial attack. Utah's Fullback Christiansen was good for yards every time he carried the ball. In the second half, however, the Trojans ran wild and scored four of their five touchdowns. Incidentally, every try for extra point succeeded, with Warburton leading the way in the second period by bucking the ball over the goal.

Christian Science Lesson-Sermon
"Unreality" is the subject of the Lesson-Sermon on Sunday in all Christian Science churches, branches of The Mother Church, The First Church of Christ, Scientist, in Boston, Mass. The Golden Text is from Ecclesiastes,
"In the multitude of dreams and many words there are also divers vanities: but fear thou God."
Among the Bible citations in the Lesson-Sermon are these words of John: "Love not the world ,neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life,是 not of the Father,但 is of the world. And the world passeth away, and the lust thereof:but he that doeth the will of God abldeth for ever."
A correlative passage from the Christian Science textbook,"Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," by Mary Baker Eddy states,"The visible universe and material man are the poor counterfeits of the invisible universe and spiritual man."
Cream shortening and sugar, add well beaten egg, then beat thoroughly. Add half the sour cream into which the baking soda has been dissolved, and again beat well. Sift three cupfuls of flour with the baking powder and salt into a bowl, then sift one supful of the once-sifted flour into the mixture, beating well, then the second half of the cream, then sift the second cupful of flour into the dough, and again beat thoroughly. Now add the vanilla, and sift in the last cupful of flour, slowly mixing and kneading, if necessary until the flour is well blended in. Roll the dough on a well floured board, cut into any desired shape, place on a greased baking sheet, and bake in a moderate oven for about twelve minutes. Bake longer time if you like thick cookies, but the thin ones are usually more acceptable.
Besides varied shapes, one may make the same cookie dough into quite different cookies by adding coarse sugar to the top on some, or a raisin, or a nut meat or a few pieces of the little chocolate "decorettes."
I know of no greater help in cooking than a "nest" of glass bowls. These "nests" are sold in sets of five, holding from a pint to three quarts. They are quite inexpensive, and may be had in white or green glass at almost any house-furnishing department and often may be found in amber or pink.
If you have trouble making bread crumbs stay on croquettes after dipping in beaten egg, try adding an equal amount of flour to the bread crumbs. Roll the croquette in slightly beaten egg to which a tablespoon of water has been added, then roll in the bread crumbs and flour, then in the egg again, and a second time in the bread crumbs and flour.
Foods such as dates, raisins and marshmallows which have an unpleasant odor of sticking to the knife or mouth are wet in cold water before eating. Dip the scissors frequently as the cutting continues.
