Fox Theatre Has Big New Year's Eve Show
Hot news for Victor McLaglen fans!
And for all others who relished the spice and punch of those two Raoul Walsh screen festivals of mirth, "What Price Glory" and "The Cock Eyed World!"
"Hot for Paris," Victor McLaglen's latest starring vehicle, an all talking all laughing farce-comedy which has just had its premiere at the Criterion theatre, Los Angeles, is to be the feature attraction at the big "New Year's Eve Whoope" program to be presented at the Fox Theatre, Anaheim.
The presentation of "Hot for Paris," at the Fox, while it is still "hot from the cameras," so to speak, is made possible by special arrangements for a predistrict showing.
"The big mid-night frolle at the Fox, which will commence at 11:30 p.m. December 31, 1929 and last well into 1930, is to be an all-fun program.
A Laurel and Hardy all talking comedy; a Mack Sennett all talking comedy, "Dangerous Females," a Mickey Mouse sound cartoon, and Fox Movetone News will be other features on the bill.
Co-starred with McLaglen in "Hot for Paris," are Fifi Dorsay, who helped Will Rogers in his "They had to See Paris" and El Brendel, the Swede comedian who provided much of the fun in "What Price Glory" and "The Cock Eyed World."
Reserved seats are now on sale at the Box Office. Regular admission will prevail, it was stated.
SAVES BABIES' EYE
Cambattling blindness in babies, the state department of public health has distributed 26,405 outfits for use in preventing this affliction during the past year.
They consist of two wax ampoules, each of which contains two drops of a two per cent solution of nitrate of silver. The eyes of newly born babies are peculiarly liable to infection and the nitrate of silver is placed in the eyes at birth, in order to prevent development of infection which might result in blindness.
State law requires the health department to distribute the product free. Officials declare that the procedure more than pays for itself in saving the state vast sums of money that might otherwise be required in the care of blind persons in state institutions.

Contestants To Get Scholarships
Union Pacific Gives Prizes to Boys and Girls
Practical recognition of the value of agricultural education is contained in the announcement by Cary R. Gray, President of the Union Pacific System, of an annual award of four $100 cash scholarships to boy or girl contestants who are studying vocational agriculture.
The cash scholarships will be awarded to the winners in Los Angeles, Orange, Riverside and San Bernardino counties, the four California subdivisions traversed by the Union Pacific Lines.
The scholarship contest, according to R. A. Smith, Supervisor of Agriculture, Union Pacific System, is open to boys and girls between the ages of 14 and 21 years residing in the four counties, enrolled and having a satisfactory record in a High School vocational course for the school year, and who has the highest average ranking in both class instruction and supervised practical agricultural work. The award is to apply on a degree or non-degree course in agriculture at the University of California at Berkeley, or at any of the Branch colleges of agriculture. The scholarship conditions provide the winner shall be determined by a grading of 45 per cent on supervised practical or project work, 35 per cent in scholarship standing, and 30 per cent on character interest and qualities of leadership. The winner will be chosen from the twelve students ranking highest in the county as outlined by Julian A. McPhee, Chief of the Bureau of Agricultural Education of the State of California at Sacramento, and will be selected by ya committee of three persons, consisting of the County Superintendent of Schools, one person appointed by McPhee and a third person named by the other two.
At the Fourth Annual Christmas Live Stock Show and Rodco held at the Union Stock Yards at Los Angeles recently, more than 600 future farmers of California met with Supervisor Smith and the interest shown by the students resulted in the establishment of the scholarships by the Union Pacific.
Copies of the rules of the contest which is for the 1929-1930 school year and for each school year thereafter, unless otherwise announced, may be obtained upon application to Mr. McPhee or R. B. Robertson, Assistant Traffic Manager, Union Pacific System, Los Angeles, or any teacher of vocational agriculture in each of the four counties.
The scholarships offered by the Union Pacific are an expansion to California of the plan inaugurated in 1926 in several states and is administered in cooperation with the tate Boards of Vocational Education and the Agricultural Colleges. In the past three years the Union Pacific has awarded 275 similar scholarships under the Smith Hughes System in ten western states.

The "Question Mark" army flight, first of the great endurance flights breaking all previous distance and duration records was made with Richfield. Bobbie Trout used Richfield gasoline when she brought back to the West the World's endurance record for Women. The solo endurance record of Herbert J. Fahy was another triumph for Richfield as was the sensational "Angeleno" endurance flight made a few weeks later. When Tex
Rankin completed the first official Canada to Mexico flight he made a fuel economy record of 18½ miles per gallon with Richfield. Norman Goddard also made a unique record with the "Gasoline of Power" by winning 26 events in local air meets throughout California. Among Richfield's most famous achievements in the air are its records during the National Air Races; in the spectacular transcontinental non-stop flights of Art Goebel and Captain Wilkins 2300-mile dash across the North Pole, perhaps the most hazardous flight in the annals of aviation.

Here are a few of the Speedway stars in the Richfield firmament for 1929:—Lou Meyer—1928-1929 National A.A.A.Speedway Champion and winner at Altoona, Pa.
Richfield's qualities, proved in grueling competitive events, are the same qualities you need in your own car for every day driving — instant starting — maximum speed and power — unfailing dependability. TRY THIS WORLD CHAMPION MOTOR FUEL TODAY!

Richfield piled up an impressive list of victories in the
racing regattas this season. Palm Beach and Sarasota
saw two triumphs for the "Gasoline of Power"; at Mt.
Dora, new world's records with Richfield gasoline in
both the limited and unlimited class 151 hydroplanes.
At Southampton, England, Ralph Snoddy, using Richfield gasoline, won the famous Duke of York trophy
and followed this triumph with a new world's record
