Californians On Water Commission
Conservation and Power Development in State is Undertaken
With the selection of seven California experts to serve on the joint federal-state water commission, the whole question of water conservation and hydre-electric power development in California awaits only the pleasure of President Hoover.
Before the commission may proceed with its studies, the president first must appoint the federal members, which, according to information in Governor Young's office, will be three in number and will be named shortly after the first of the year.
California members of the commission, appointed by Governor Young, are as follows:
George C. Pardee, Oakland (chairman); former Governor of California and now president of the East Bay Municipal Utility District.
William Durbrow, Grass Valley, for many years president of the California Irrigation Districts Association.
B. A. Etcheverry, Berkeley, professor of irrigation at the University of California.
Alfred Harrell, Bakersfield, publisher of the Bakersfield California and director of the state chamber of commerce.
W. B. Mathews, Los Angeles, member of the Colorado river commission and chief counsel of the Los Angeles bureau of water and power.
Warren Olney, an Francisco attorney and former associate justice of the supreme court.
F. E. Weymouth, Los Angeles former chief engineer of the United States Reclamation Bureau and now chief engineer of the Metropolitan Water District of Southern California.
William J. Carr, Pasadena, member of the state railroad commission.
Ebert B. Meck, director of the state department of public works.
The last two members were added by Governor Young as official members.

Warren Olney, an Francisco, attorney and former associate justice of the supreme court.
F. E. Weymouth, Los Angeles former chief engineer of the United States Reclamation Bureau and now chief engineer of the Metropolitan Water District of Southern California.
William J. Carr, Pasadena member of the state railroad commission.
Ebert B. Meck, director of the state department of public works.
The last two members were added by Governor Young as ex-officio members in addition to the seven members provided by the legislative act of 1929 authorizing the commission's appointment.
The new group is authorized to make its investigations separately, but at the same time, work with the joint legislative water committee of which Assemblyman Bradford S. Crittenden of Tracy is chairman.
Among the problems confronting the federal-state commissioners are the applications to bridge San Francisco bay; the coordinated water program projected by the last legislative water committee including a $70,000,000 dam at Kennett, to store water for flood control, power development, salinity control and irrigation; a $24,000,000 plant to transport surplus water from the Sacramento river to the San Joaquin river; construction of a $45,000,000 salt water barrier on Carquines straits; state aid toward the Santa Ana river flood control projects, and other outstanding water problems of the state.
Just how the state should move to finance these huge water projects is a question to be solved by the new commission. Assurance has already been given by President Hoover that federal assistance will be extended. Governor Young, said.
This assurance marks a long step forward in California's water history, as the approval of the federal government and its financial assistance are essential to the success of any state-wide plan.
FACTORY TO CONSUMER
According to Mr. LaVernie Severtson, manager of Anaheim branch of the Dunlop Tire and Rubber Co., that all the Genuine Dunlop Tires, Batteries, and Oils are being shipped direct from their factories to the local chain store, 120 South Lemon Street.
He added, that by this direct factory to consumer method of distribution, all unnecessary items of expense have been eliminated. This expense elimination dispenses with their entire sales organization, credit dept., the unnecessary handling, warehousing, loading, unloading and shipping of the Genuine Dunlop Products.
This represents a considerable saving in overhead, he said. This saving in overhead is in turn being passed along to the consumer, in addition to this tremendous saving of the chain store method of operation is the frequent turning of their stocks, assuming the
