Citrus Companies Air Difficulties in Court Olive Concern Sired by Garden Grove Association Difficulties between the Orange County Citrus Products Company of Olive and the Garden Grove Citrus Association, over a subscription for stock of the former company, were put up to the courts Saturday for settlement, when the Olive company filed suit for damages and for a court order declaring the respective rights of the two companies under the subscription agreement. According to the papers on file, the Garden Grove Citrus Association signed for 30 shares of stock in the Orange County Citrus Products Company, when it was formed, in 1925. The Garden Grove Association later protested further permits for the sale of stock and demanded return of cash and a note given for its own subscription. The case was heard before the corporation commissioner, who decided that it was one for the courts to settle. The complaint now on file states that the state had issued a permit for the sale of stock, the proceeds of which were to be impounded in the First National Bank of Olive, until 75 shares had been sold. The Garden Grove subscription was taken and later a dispute arose over the conduct of the citrus products company affairs, it appearing that the Garden Grove Association questioned the ability of the citrus products company management. A new management was installed and, with good prospects for success, the stock dispute was dropped. At least, the citrus products company thought it was. A protest filed by the Garden Grove Association against issuance of an amended permit to the citrus products company was withdrawn and subsequently a suspension of stock sales, imposed by the state, was lifted. The citrus products company proceeded again to sell stock, and eventually sold all shares. Effect of Fires Far Reaching Do not throw your live cigar and cigarette butts and burning or glowing matches from your car. Carry one of the patent receptacles or even an improvised one in the shape of an empty tin can and add to your collection until you can bury or otherwise dispose of it when you are sure all fire is extinct. Extinguish your campfire with water or by covering it with earth or, in case of doubt, use both methods, but be sure there is not even a spark when you leave it, adjures the National Automobile Club. It would seem that this warning had appeared to frequently and in so many different publications since the beginning of this year's danger season that it must have reached everyone, but the number of fires that have been burning during the past two weeks would indicate that there were some persons who had not been reached or if reached had not heeded. On Sunday, July 18, from a point near the Last Chance mine, in Placer county, there were visible to the naked eye four large fires burning in as many different counties and the visibility was poor on that day, too, due to dense smoke from the numerous fires in the state. We are accustomed to think of the loss from forest fires as being confined to only. This loss is less the effects are more. There are, along many people whose name on the travel along for any reason, traced reduced, these people fires on or in the vicinity are great deterrents route, both on account of the male travelers' fire fighting force some time, were for it would have a very promiscuous scouting articles, but most voluntarily offer the dates for the position. As an example of tourists of danger by a man who has sailed the Pacific highway Woodland, that durdles the fires were rammed range many miles travel on the west side of the Sacramento proportionately. Tourists are also sense by being foreseen. products company affairs, it appearing that the Garden Grove Association questioned the ability of the citrus products company management. The citrus products company proceeded again to sell stock, and eventually sold 85 shares. When the company applied to the state for a permit to issue stock to the subscribers, the Garden Grove Association again protested and, that time, demanded return of its subscription money. At a hearing before the corporation commissioner, the Olive company claimed an understanding that the Garden Grove Association had approved of the change in management, and had waived the question of a time limit to stock sales, by withdrawing opposition to an amended permit, which granted such time extension. The Garden Grove association denied that it had waived anything. In view of the conflict of testimony, the corporation department declined to settle the dispute and advised that it was a question for the courts. Accordingly, the legal proceedings were instituted. Irl D. Brett, Los Angeles; T. L. McFadden and George F. Holden, of Anaheim, are attorneys for the citrus products company. Head, Rutan and Scovel, on Santa Ana, represented the Garden Grove Association. Drinking More Than Entire War Debt Menier, the well-known chocolate manufacturer of France, has given the government $12,000,000 to help stabilize the franc and keep the nation from going bankrupt. He is pointing the way to the rest of his countrymen. If the French would dig down into their pockets a bit—not very deep—instead of suking and calling the United States a Shylock, they could easily make the franc again a valuable piece of paper. They would not have to give anything like the sum Menier has donated. A few dollars each would achieve it. Placing the French population at 40,-000,000, an average of $5 each in gold would give the paper franc a solid backing. And what would give it more backing than gold would be the determination of the French people to keep their money good and pay their debts. Cerdit is largely a matter of confidence in both the ability and the purpose of paying obligations. The French people have the ability but they apparently lack the purpose. In the meantime, the board of temperance of the Methodist Episcopal church in the United States has given the French and all other Europeans some good advice. Advice is the easiest to give and the least wanted of all the would give the paper franc a solid backing. Advice is the easiest to give and the least wanted of all the things we do for each other. Unfortunately, we are more apt to take it if it is bad than if it is good. But, good or bad, the board offers it, take it or leave it. It is to the effect, that if the people of the debtor nations of Europe would but stop drinking and apply their liquor bills to the payment of their debts, their obligations would be wiped out in less than five years. It is the estimate of the board, that Europe spends $4,188,000,000 on drink every year. That is quite a tidy sum. The board tells the drinkers of Europe that the prosperity of the United States is founded on the fact that through prohibition we have greatly reduced our drink bill and are spending the saving on more important things besides putting much of it in the bank. We are not giving it to the government voluntarily, of course, but a lot of it goes into the treasury for income tax that would not have reached there under former conditions. The French people have the wealth to keep their money at par and pay their debts. What they lack is the willingness to do it, and that lack is the greatest handicap the franc bears. It would be a fine thing if they reduced their drink bill, but they could pay their debts, keep their franc at par and keep on drinking also if they wanted to. The old-fashioned youth who used to rock the canoe now has a nephew who spins over the grade crossing without stopping to look and listen. A Georgia colored boy was locked up in a boxcar load of watermelons for six days, consuming thirteen of them. Just think what a story he will have to tell his grandchildren. There’s one thing to be said for the aeroplane. It seldom gets caught at grade crossings. ANAHEIM GAZETTE loss from forest fires and grass fires as being confined to the burned areas only. This loss is heavy enough, but the effects are more far reaching. There are, along all our highways, many people whose living is dependent on the travel along that road, when, for any reason, travel is stopped or reduced, these people suffer. Forest fires on or in the vicinity of a highway are great deterrents to travel on that route, both on account of actual physical danger and because of the likelihood of the male travelers' being drafted into the fire fighting force. If everyone at some time were forced to fight a fire, it would have a very salutory effect on the promiscuous scattering of fire bearing articles, but most persons will not voluntarily offer themselves as candidates for the position of fire fighter. As an example of the avoidance by tourists of danger areas it was stated by a man who has a service station on the Pacific highway, not far from Woodland, that during the week when the fires were rampant in the coast range many miles north of him, the travel on the west side was reduced by more than half, while that on the east side of the Sacramento was increased proportionately. Tourists are also put to added expense by being forced, in many cases, to travel many miles further to reach their goal. Eay fair! The starting of a fire may not affect you but may entail much misery for many others. If wars had to be financed in advance there wouldn't be nearly so much fighting. The consumption of lettuce in the United States is said to be greatly on the increase, and this is undoubtedly due to the automobile sandwich. NOTICE OF ASSESSMENT Bae-Mar Land Company.
