BASE BALL
ON THE TOBOGGAN
Anaheim Ball Team Makes Weak Showing Against Pacific Electrics
Before one of the largest crowds of the season the locals lost last Sunday's game to the Pacific Electrics of Los Angeles by a score of 4 to 1. The Anaheim boys played a lifeless game and were, as usual, unable to hit. They have only made four hits in the last two games, Fisher getting two of these. Phillips, the visiting pitcher, had twelve strikeouts and Du Bois ten. Each walked three men.
The game was devoid of any particular feature outside of the strike-out record made by Hendricks and West, each fanning the atmosphere four times.
Gerkin scored Anaheim's lone run in the ninth inning on a walk; two stolen bases and a hit by Dagne.
The locals tried out two new "white hopes," West and Dagne. The former at short and the latter in right field. West distinguished himself by striking out four times out of five times at bat and making one error out of two chances. Dagne did a little better, he made the hit that saved a shut out. Unless the team is very materially strengthened it will not win many games.
Fisher has been appointed captain to succeed Lewis who has severed his connection with the team. The latter has not been playing up to his usual standard this year, but he will be greatly missed notwithstanding. He is one of the headliest amateur players that has ever performed on the local diamond.

Welsel & Co. are showing the popular Studebaker cars. The E-M-F, the Flanders and the Kissel Kar are all sold by this firm.
J. W. Dickenson is the local agent for the Oakland 30-40-45, which he claims is the best all-purpose car made.
The Anaheim Garage, M. W. Skinner, proprietor, is now handling the Metz "22," which the dealers declare is the lowest priced 4-cylinder runabout on the market.
Angell & Redit are the Anaheim agents for the Maxwell. This is one of the cars that made a famous record in the recent race from Los Angeles to Phoenix.
The Cameron is a new car in Anaheim, but F. B. Tuffree, the Orange county agent, says his company always delivers the goods and substantiates its claims.
G. T. Ingram, with the Pacific Implement Company, is selling the Ford. This car has been noted for years and is one of the most popular on the market.

Anaheim, Cal., December 16, 1911.
The Board of Directors of the A.U.W.Co. met in regular session on the above date. Members present—Crowther, Bradford, Drake, Dwyer, Porter and Sherwood.
The minutes of the preceding regular meeting of December 2nd and adjourned meeting of December 6th were read and approved.
Geo. L. Emerson appeared before the Board and made request for a lease of a plot of ground about 100 feet square at the northeast corner of the Tuffree reservoir, for use in connection with his bee business. A motion was carried that Mr. Emerson be granted a lease for 5 years at $25 per year, payable July 1st of each year, with the conditions that he keep no stock of any kind on the place, and that the company can have the use of the ground for any other purpose if necessary. Attorney Keech was instructed to prepare a lease accordingly.
Regarding request of the City of Anaheim for change of the line of the ditch on Walnut street, Attorney Keech reported that he had examined the county records and the city Ordinance, and that it is his opinion that the company is under no obligations to make any change. Definite action on the matter was deferred until the next meeting.
Attorney Keech rendered an opinion that the company has the right to maintain trees along the ditches for protection. The Superintendent was instructed to give Mr. Keech the names of the parties who have been cutting the trees, and Mr. Keech was requested to take up the matter with the offenders.
The report of the Amalgamated Oil Company for the month of November was received and filed. Oil produced amounted to 9,885.21 bbls. Oil shipped amounted to 5,262.82 bbls. Oil used for fuel amounted to 2,879.00 bbls.
A bid was received from the Amalgamated Oil Company for the purchase of the company royalty oil or the year 1912. No action was taken.

Applications on file for the transfer of stock were on motion granted.
The proposed construction of a press divided into supervisors nearly equal in population. The intention of this was to bring about such as being only what they and preeminently fair to the total registration it is 8139, each district as nearly as practical 16th fifth.
How This Can Bend
The first district, composed of the ten precincts o now has 1673 voters and nearly correct as it stands on district could be Bolsa, Westminster, Los Alimitos, Stanton, V and Anaheim with 1620; Buena Park, Orangethor Placentia, Yorba, Olinda bra with 1674; the four El Modena, Orange, Weg Tustin with 1612; theance of the county ex Bay City all along the including, as it does now and 8 of Santa Ana will proposed rearrangementthe third district still with a surplus of 46the fifth would have the deficiency of 68. Such ment would make each pact having the Santa Ana practical dividing line end of the county.
Alternate Propos
In this connection it probably a better plan to have a board of 1 elected to propose a freeer for the home govern county affairs; and further charter provide for only visors. One of the supertricts to be composed and immediately adjacen and the balance of the expose the other two, thus tically all of the county districts. Then by paying supervisors enough, they may be required as sup road overseers. This co with no additional cost supervisors would get w receive as road overseers.

THE SUPERVISOR DISTRICTS
Pertinent Observations Regarding Necessity for Equalizing Them
A resolution by the writer was offered at the last meeting of the Associated Chamber of Commerce asking that the county be redistricted so as to equalize the supervisor districts, in reference to population. After some preliminary discussion the matter was laid over for a month and is to come up at the meeting at Huntington Beach on Wednesday, December 28, 1911.
Present voting strength of districts according to the last registration, 1910, the districts stand as follows: First 1673, second 1164, third 2426, fourth 1425, fifth 1451. Thus it will be seen that the larger district is 207 per cent of the smaller.

be divided into supervisor districts as nearly equal in population as practical. The intention of the resolution was to bring about such adjustment as being only what the law requires and preeminently fair and just, as the total registration in the county is 8139, each district should contain as nearly as practical 1628, being one-fifth.
How This Can Be Done
The first district, composed of eight of the ten precincts of Santa Ana, now has 1673 voters and, therefore, nearly correct as it stands; the second district could be made up of Bolsa, Westminster, Garden Grove, Los Alimitos, Stanton, West Anaheim and Anaheim with 1620; the third of Buena Park, Orangethorpe, Fullerton, Placentia, Yorba, Olinda and La Habra with 1674; the fourth o' Olive, El Modena, Orange, West Orange and Tustin with 1612; the fifth the balance of the county extending from Bay City all along the coast and including, as it does now, precincts 7 and 8 of Santa Ana with 1560. This proposed rearrangement would make the third district still the greatest with a surplus of 46 voters, while the fifth would have the least with a deficiency of 68. Such an arrangement would make each district compact, having the Santa Ana river, the practical dividing line, in the north end of the county.
Alternate Proposition
In this connection it is suggested that probably a better plan would be to have a board of 15 freeholders elected to propose a freeholders charter for the home government of our county affairs; and further that this charter provide for only three supervisors. One of the supervisor districts to be composed of Santa Ana and immediately adjacent precincts and the balance of the county to compose the other two, thus putting practically all of the county roads in two districts. Then by paying these two supervisors enough, their whole time may be required as supervisors and road overseers. This could be done with no additional cost, as the two supervisors would get what four now receive as road overseers. The tree ALONG STATE HIGHWAY
SACRAMENTO, Dec. 20.—It has been announced that the State Highway Commission has decided not only to construct the best possible highways with the $18,000,000 bond issue, but to make those highways attractive by planting shade and ornamental trees along the sides. Definite plans will be worked out by the commission with the State Board of Forestry so that the work of planting the trees will go forward with the construction of the roads for the state. California will have a system of highways extending from the border of Oregon to the boundary of Arizona, and these highways will be bordered with trees selected and planted, cared for and watched by experts under the direction of State Forester Homans.
