The meeting was in the nature of a school of instruction, and in the evening the Huntington Beach team exemplified secret work. Judge Howard while at Santa Ana on Monday joined in wedlock George E. Anderson and Miss Goldie M. Whalen, both of Los Angeles. The couple were married at the courthouse after procuring a marriage license from County Clerk Williams.
County Tax Collector Lamb was over from Santa Ana some days ago in his auto, accompanied by his wife and young son. Mr. Lamb recently returned from his annual vacation in the mountains, and is busily engaged with a large force of employees attending to routine work in his office.
Mrs. Oliver Hill left on Thursday evening for South English, Iowa, in response to a telegram announcing a critical turn in the illness of her father. He recently spent several months here, and returned east two months ago, being accompanied on the trip by his granddaughter, Mrs. O. A. Mullinix.

Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Helmsen motored to Puente on Sunday and were guests of relatives. On their return they brought with them Albert Cross, nephew of Mrs. Helmsen, who is spending the week with them.

Rev. Watry of Santa Ana preached a sermon to the Unitarian congregation at Odd Fellows hall on Sunday afternoon at 4 o'clock. The congregation will meet in the hall at the same hour each Sunday afternoon, and will be addressed by Rev. Watry, who has been engaged as pastor of the flock.
M. W. Martenet has purchased the interest of his partner, E. G. Hutchinson, in the hardware business on Los Angeles street and will continue the same at the old stand. Mr. Martenet is a thoroughly equipped business man and knows the hardware business from start to finish. He has many friends in Anaheim and vicinity who wish all manner of good fortune in the venture. He is making additions to his stock and now has one of the best stocked hardware emporiums in Southern California.

Herbert D. Morton and Miss Mary Gallagher were married in Los Angeles June 29th. The happy couple have been living at the Morton ranch in the West End until Tuesday, when in company of Mrs. Delos Morton they moved to Los Angeles, where they have purchased a home and will make their permanent residence.Mrs. Morton has sold her ten acre farm, and will live with her son and daughter-in-law. She has resided here for many years, and with the happy young couple takes with her best wishes of many friends for their future welfare and prosperity.
Elton Goble received a letter on Monday from the civil service commission at Washington informing him he had successfully passed the examination for bookkeeper in the reclamation service, which position pays a salary of from $1200 to $1500 per year. He stood eighth in the list of a large class, his percentage being 82.62. Some months ago he passed successfully the civil service examination for typewriting, standing second on the list. He is looking for instructions from Washington assigning him to a position, which, in the reclamation service, may take him to any western state. Elton is a self-made young man, and we look to him to make good when he gets a job from Uncle Sam.

Mr. and Mrs. J.M.Pickering went on Sunday to Haywood, where the latter will spend some weeks visiting her sister, and may later proceed to Washington for a sojourn among relatives. She has been ill late, her ailment taking the form of facial paralysis. Mr.Pickering returned home in the evening.
He says his wife's ill health may necessitate removal of his family from the city.
An auto party consisting of Mrs. and Mrs. Lybarger and family, Mr. and Mrs.J.W.Dickenson and family, Mr. and Mrs.H.F.Hill and family and George Nills enjoyed picnic at Newport Beach on Sunday Mr.Lybarger and son, J.W.Dickenson and Mr.Beard chartered boat, going out a mile and a half on a fishing excursion. They landed 6 pounds of albicore.
Dr.Freeman has sold his rank east of town and will the latter part of the month move with Mrs.Freeman to Fullerton, where he will purchase a home; Dr.Freeman has lived here a number of years,and he made a wide circle of friends who will regret his departure. Clifford Elliott, eight-year-old son of W. J. Elliott, stepped on a nail as he alighted from his bicycle at his home on the Eastside on Tuesday afternoon, and sustained severe injury. He will be on the retired list for a few days, but no permanent ill effects are anticipated.
Miss Norma Rose was pleasantly surprised on Saturday evening by a party of friends who gathered to show their friendship prior to her departure with her mother and sister for the east in the near future. Refreshments were served and games made the time pass pleasantly.
Col. George H. Bower, formerly of Las Vegas, Nevada, now a resident of Los Angeles, was in town yesterday,a guest of J. B. Rea. Two summers ago,when the thermometer registered 115 at Las Vegas, Col. Bower concluded he would come to the coast to reside. He is delighted with the foggy weather, and says the desert has no further attractions for him.
A liberal religious service was held in Odd Fellows hall on Sunday afternoon by Rev. Francis Watry of Santa Ana. The attendance was small,but the interest was not so,for they unanimously decided to continue these meetings. Next Sunday afternoon Mr. Watry will speak on "The Bible from the liberal point of view." The place is Odd Fellows' hall,and the time 4 p.m.: This will be worth hearing.

While there have been rumors for several weeks that Santa Ana would be sued by the Southern California Edison company because the city tru tees reduced the electric rate from 10 cents per kilowatt hour to 8 cents it now seems certain that Santa Ana will sue that company because it has refused to pay to the city the usual 6 per cent of its gross earnings,as provided by its franchise.
The Pacific Electric company on Tuesday morning sent 50 track layers to Santa Ana to put down a transfer line from its line at Huntington Beach to the Southern Pacific tracks on East Second street.In view of the fact that it is known that it is the intention to convert the
