The Ladies Aid Society of the Presbyterian church will meet on Thursday, the 27th, at 2 p.m., in the S. S. room. All ladies of the church and congregation are invited.

Chilly Fisher is negotiating for a strong baseball club to represent this city at the fall season which opens in September. Games will be played on the Los Angeles street grounds near the power house, which will be remodeled and improved. Manager Fisher will have a strong team and promises patrons of the game the best ball ever seen on a local diamond. Play ball, Chilly.
Jose Modena pleaded guilty in the Superior Court on Tuesday morning to a charge of burglarizing the Chamness lodging house at Santa Ana on June 8th. He was guarded in his plea. He said he was guilty of going to the place as the guest of another man who stole the grip and who gave it to Modena to carry away. "I am innocent of intending to steal, but I am guilty of burglary," is about the way Modena put it. After close questioning, through an interpreter, Judge West accepted the plea as a plea of guilty. Judge West appointed Clyde Bishop to defend Modena. Bishop held a conference with the Mexican, who was bent on pleading guilty. Bishop had it stated in open court through the interpreter to Modena that he did not advise him to plead guilty. Sentence is to be passed at 10 o'clock next Monday.

Miss Ella Rawlin, step daughter of Frank Machleb, was married in Fresno yesterday to Kenneth C. Tate of Fullerton. The bride is well and favorably known to the people of this section who wish her and her husband every happiness. After a short honeymoon they will make their home in Fullerton.
Mrs. Mabel Langenberger Jones arrived on Monday evening from New York after an absence of two and a half years. She is accompanied by her little daughter, and will remain for a visit of a month or more with her mother and other relatives. Mrs. Jones is taking lessons upon the piano at a New York conservatory of music.
A sneak thief stole several pies from an outer window at Frank Nemetz's residence the other day. Mrs. Nemtez had just finished baking and put the pies on a stand in the window to cool. Later the pastry was found to have been stolen. Whether occupants of Buzzard's Roost or Weary Willie's camp up the track are responsible is not known. It is suggested that the officers give these gentry "the run."

Miss Alice McDill, formerly teacher of languages in the high school, has accepted a position in the Alhambra high school at a salary of $1300 per year, a raise of $200 from the amount paid her here. Miss McDill is a thoroughly competent teacher, and while regret is felt for her departure from this city, her many friends will be glad to note her employment at increased salary at Alhambra.
Miss Edna Ames who for six years past has been teacher of singing in the city schools, this week tendered her resignation, after having been elected a member of the faculty for another year. Miss Ames is spending the summer with relatives in San Bernardino. Universal regret will be felt at her resignation, as beside being a vocalist of exceptional talent, her many charming traits of character have endeared her to pupils and patrons of the school alike. It is not known whether she will continue teaching elsewhere, or whether she will retire. At all events she will have the best wishes of a host of friends in whatever pathway her footsteps may in future lead her.

An appeal has been filed from the justice's court of Los Alamitos township in a case entitled Ben-L. Draper vs. Ben Goldwater. Draper sued for $200 because his horse and cart were struck by Goldwater's automobile on March 27, 1910, the horse being forced into a barbed wire fence. Judgment was for $150.
