Charles Baxter was a business visitor in town from Brookhurst the first of the week. Mr. Baxter is an extensive grower of cabbage, and states a larger area is being devoted to this crop than ever before. Estimates go as high as 2000 acres, and the crop promises well, last week’s rain having been of great benefit to it.

Bob Rimpau left yesterday for Tucson, to enter the employ of Ben Heney & Co., wholesale merchants. Heney is a brother of Francis J. Heney, the San Francisco graft prosecutor. Bob is an industrious and reliable young man, and his friends hereaway predict a successful career for him in the territory.

A joint meeting of directors of Anaheim Union Water company in the Santa Ana valley irrigation pany was held at the office of the former in this city on Tuesday.
W. H. Spake has been appointed the grand jury to expert the books accounts in the offices of the var county officers. He is now engaged in the task assigned him.
A. Pierotti was in town from ranch at Placentia a day or two. He reports continued prosperity in section.

Mike Lopez killed nine deer and seven elk while on a recent visit to his cousin, who resides in Sonora, Mex. Mike spent three months in Sonora, and made no effort to bag the limit. He contemplates another trip to Sonora next season, and will then see what he can do to break the record for killing big game. In Sonora hunters care little for killing deer, having no fondness for venison. Mike sold the hides for $2 each and threw the carcass away. In one canyon he saw as many as five rattlers in a bunch, and is of opinion there were a thousand of the varmints in the canyon.
Wm. Konig has had the parlor and dining room of his home frescoed in a most artistic manner. The work was done by Tommy Deitrich. The parlor is tinted a delicate pink, the ceiling shaded into blue to represent the sky while garlands of roses held by chubby cupids are a further decoration. The dining room is in a slightly deeper shade of pink and the decorations are of grapes and vines with medalions of fish and game. The work is very well done and is an attractive feature of an handsome home.
G. D Keller of the Fairbanks-Morse engine company, was in town yesterday. In company of J. B. Rea he drove over the country inspecting plants and taking new orders. Mr. Keller says there are 400 pumping plants in the vicinity of Anaheim.

Warren C. Eberle of Los Angeles will give the second lecture on the Civic Improvement Course at the high school on the evening of December 17, at 7.30. The subject will be The Immigrant, and will be illustrated by stereo-opticon views of immigrants at the pier and elsewhere.
Rev. Mitchell will speak next Sunday morning at the Presbyterian church on "Removing the Grave Cloths." In the evening his subject will be "Trusts." Will you be there? There are always good sermons at this church.
