Miss Hazel Bawden of Los Angeles, who is well known throughout the entire state and has been giving a series of entertainments in the later towns of Southern California. Miss Bawden appeared in a recital at Fullerton on Tuesday evening, and also in a High School program at that place Friday evening of last week. In speaking of the latter the Fullerton Tribune says: Then came a reading by Miss Hazel Bawden "The Soul of the Violin." It is seldom one hears a reader who is so natural, and so devoid of affectation but with the power to sway her audience, and hold their intense interest, as does Miss Bawden. The Soul of the Violin, is an exquisite thing, and it brought out the striking dramatic ability of the young woman, as well as the pathos and tenderness of her work. The encore, James Whitcomb Riley's "Bear Story," and her succeeding numbers, demonstrated her versatility. In the child-characterization it was sometimes difficult to remember that the reciter was a "grown-up" young woman. She will be assisted here by several well known local people in musical numbers. But more than this, the conference affords an exceptional opportunity for these five states to adjust their financial, educational, sanitary and industrial systems, which are so widely at variance, and it is the earnest hope of all Americans that they will accept it to the limit of its possibilities.
