Alfred Requarth, living with his parents at West Anaheim, had his arm broken above the wrist by being hit with a bat in a scrimmage with three Santa Ana toughs at a ball game at Athletic park in this city on Sunday afternoon. Nines from Orangethorpe and Santa Ana were engaged in the game, and excitement between participants of each side ran high. Requarth became involved in an argument with three men from Santa Ana, one of whom is said to be a prizefighter. Requarth was knocked down and was being punished severely, when Arthur and Charley Darling went to his assistance. The latter was badly pummeled about the face.
Requarth states that the Santa Ana men were boisterous and under the influence of liquor. He sought to avoid trouble, but was struck on the arm by a bat in the hands of one of his assailants and knocked down. Two men jumped upon him, when the Darling boys interfered to save him from further punishment.
The Santa Ana men immediately jumped upon their horses and rode away.
Orangethorpe won the game, 4 to 3. It was said yesterday that warrants would issue for the arrest of the Santa Ana men whose names are known to the police.
