Gillett and Anti-Injunction Bill
So much has been said and so little apparently known about the status of the anti-Injunction bill that the following facts are worthy of attention:
At the last session of congress, four or five anti-injunction bills were pending before the house judiciary committee. One of them, the Gilbert bill, was favored by the conductors, engineers, firemen and train men of the United States and was supported by H. R. Fuller, their representative. Towards the end of the session, Congressman Pearre, a member of the judiciary committee, at the request of the American federation of labor through its president, Samuel Gompers, introduced a bill which is known as the Pearre bill. This bill was different from any other injunction bill in that it contained a provision that an injunction should only be issued to protect a property right. It contained the following language:
"And for the purpose of this act, no right to carry on business of any particular kind, or at any particular place, or at all, shall be construed, held, considered, or treated as property or is constituted a property right."
Many arguments were presented to the judiciary committee as to the merits of the various injunction bills and much testimony was taken thereon. Finally a resolution was passed by the committee referring all bills to a special committee of three members with instructions to examine the measures carefully and the laws concerning them and to re-

State Dairy Inspector J. L. Milk Inspector George W. Healey visited Santa Ana for pose of visiting the dairies. Tour Mr. Hood said that he found but one exception in a fair condition. He had a few suitors to make for the improvement two of them, and the owners agreed to comply with his request. The Delhi creamery however being to Mr. Hood, practically conform to the demands of Los Angeles, and as this dairy is suitable shipping its product into Mr. Hood promptly ordered the agreement to discontinue it. He the proprietor that as soon as ready to make the necessary he would be allowed to reshipment of milk into Los Angeles until then his product would be from that city.
I. M. Von Schriltz, who owns southwest of Santa Ana, all river bed, objects to the plan First Street Land and Imprison company, which he alleges is filed in the superior court, is to make a new channel for the San river and divert it from its course. Von Schriltz owns red acres and alleges that if the channel is made water will be forced to his property and do him damage the amount of $100,000. Victorgomery has filed a suit praying court that the First street land movement company be restrained diverting the waters of the river its natural course. It is alleged that the river after crossing the First street of the city of Santa takes a southwesterly course, and the company is at work below street crossing digging out lakes and other trees growing high ground and is threatening
Many arguments were presented to the judiciary committee as to the merits of the various injunction bills and much testimony was taken thereon. Finally a resolution was passed by the committee referring all bills to a special committee of three members with instructions to examine the measures carefully and the laws concerning them and to report to the judiciary committee for its consideration at its meeting in December, 1906.
No vote was ever taken in the judiciary committee of anywhere else on any of the anti-injunction bills, nor was there any opportunity to vote on them. Mr Gillett, therefore, never had any chance to record his views on these measures and the charge that he voted against the anti-injunction bill is consequently absolutely false.
GILLETT'S RECORD ON THE EIGHT-HOUR LAW.
Both in the state legislature and in congress Mr. Gillett has always supported every eight-hour law.
With reference to the charge made by President Gompers of the federation of labor, that he had opposed such legislation, the official records show that Mr. Gillett was absent, sick, at the time the matter came to a vote before congress, and was paired with another member as an absentee.
In any event, the eight-hour law to which Mr. Gompers refers, applied only to alien labor on the Panama canal. Investigation showed that its passage would mean a cost of $50,000,000 more to the American people, besides very protracted delays in construction. This would have been playing into the hands of the railroads and other corporations interested in preventing or impeding the building of the needed waterway.

ORANGE COUNTY BREVITIES
A section of the roadbed for the Smeltzer-Benedict branch of the Southern Pacific railroad has been graded. A crew has been at work for the past two weeks with teams and scrapers and the work is being pushed at a rapid rate. The first section to be graded was on the Benedict end, but the grading crew is now at work between Westminster and Smeltzer in leveling up the roadbed through a strip of swampy low lands, so as to have it completed before the rains set in. Right of way for the entire six miles has been cleared and the work of putting the roadway in shape through an almost level strip of country will not take up very much time.
The anti-saloon league has reported in favor of supporting the following candidates: Sheriff, S. O. Walker, E. M. Wheeler; District Attorney, S. M. Davis; Supervisor, first district, H. E. Smith; second district, J. C. Ord, Geo. W. Moore, Jerome Fulsome; third district, D. S. Linebarger; fourth district, Henry Gruenenwald; fifth district, T. F. Smith; assembly, M. A. Menges; Justices of Peace—Los Alamitos township, A. Philbrick; Westminster, A. H., Burlingame; Huntington Beach, H.
Santa Barbara's total for the previous year. That city has no debt gained also, but the gap between two is not large. And these two cities are in a class by themselves, lands, which comes next, is quite a ways behind.
Congressman Smith has promised to give the claims of all six of the cities due consideration. At the session of congress he secured $1000 for a public building in Diego and will try and get such an amount as that for his district whenever another public building bill is passed. That, however, is not likely at the first session of the Sixtieth congress, that will convene in December, 1907. He said that if the cities will be satisfied start with an appropriation for site, he might hope to secure applications for sites for three or four towns. In any case, it looks as Riverside would get in early on the list.

Fined for Giving Rebates
Judge Holt in the United States circuit court for the New York district imposed a fine of $108,000 on the New York Central & Hudson River railroad for granting rebates to Lowell M. Palmer, who has charge of transportation for the American Sugar Refining company. There were six counts and a fine of $17,000 was imposed in each.
Frederick L. Pomeroy, assistant traffic manager of the New York Central, was fined $1000 on each count, a total of $6000.
Judge Holt criticised the practices of the railroad.
Santa Fe freight officials in Los Angeles must appear before the United States grand jury and tell what they know about rebates.
The Santa Fe Railroad company has been giving rebates to furniture, agricultural implement and other shippers is the charge.
General Freight Agent Barnwell and City Freight Agent T. W. Pate have been subpoenaed by the United States marshal's forces.
Merchants who must appear are Barker Brothers, Mackie-Fredericks company, Pacific Purchasing company, Los Angeles Furniture company, California Furniture company, Niles-Pease Furniture company, all furniture firms; Newell Mathews Company, the California Implement company, the California and the Pioneer Truck companies, and others.
United States District Attorney Oscar Lawler declined to discuss the subject, but it was learned the move had been contemplated by the department of justice for some time.
Agents of the department have been collecting evidence, and it is asserted ample testimony is on hand to procure indictments by the Federal grand jury.
The witnesses are ordered to bring with them all of their books, receipts and any and all documents bearing on the subject.

six cities in the Eighth will soon be in line for things, and Santa Barbara is a little the best of the present, with Riverside second. The figures on the receipts and expenses for the fiscal year 1906, 1906, are as follows:
Receipts Expenses
$34,232.64 $17,519.32
31,763.95 17,313.78
28,412.81 16,266.46

21,433.20 13,520.46
16,650.68 10,929.86
Santa Barbara the best federation, especially in fact that the city is a customs office that existed in the public building is built.
We are not available as other cities for the year 1906, but Riverside again. Our total receipts 77, or a little more than its total for the pre-citizens by themselves, Red comes next, is still behind.
Smith has promised sums of all six of these federation. At the last United States District Attorney Oscar Lawler declined to discuss the subject, but it was learned the move had been contemplated by the department of justice for some time.
Agents of the department have been collecting evidence, and it is assertedample testimony is on hand to procure indictments by the Federal grand jury.
The witnesses are ordered to bring with them all of their books, receipts and any and all documents bearing on the subject.
It is said by those informed that before the matter is concluded the Southern Pacific and other railway companies will be brought into the investigation.
DR. BOUCHELLE
Dr. L. B. Bouchelle of Thomasville, Ga., a physician well known in the South, is very enthusiastic over the cod liver oil preparation Vinol. He says: "I have used Vinol in my family and in my general practice with the most satisfactory results. It is exceedingly beneficial to those afflicted with bronchial or pulmonary diseases and to create strength."
The reason Vinol is so far superior to old fashioned cod liver oil and emulsions, is because it is a real cod liver preparation from which all the useless oil has been eliminated and tonic iron added.
We ask every weak, thin, run-down, nervous and aged person in town, and all those suffering from chronic colds, coughs and weak lungs, to try Vinol on our guarantee.
