HONORS TO NATIONAL GUARD
General Orders Acknowledging Service During the San Francisco Calamity—Senate Concurrent Resolution.
Adjutant General Lauck has issued general orders acknowledging efficient service on the part of the National guard during and immediately following the earthquake and fire which destroyed San Francisco April 18. The following quotations will be of general interest:
Supplementing the various field orders issued from this office in the months of April and May, 1906, the commander-in-chief desires to emphasize, and again express, his thanks to all officers and men of the National Guard of California, the naval militia of California, and retired officers concerned, for the efficient and conscientious manner in which they performed the very difficult and delicate duties devolving upon them while on active duty in connection with the disaster which befell the city of San Francisco and other localities in this state in April last. The officers and men of the National Guard of California did their full duty during the time they were in active service, earning by their soldierly conduct the admiration and commendation of thinking civilians and trained officers of the United States army.

The officers and men of the National Guard of California did their full duty during the time they were in active service, earning by their soldierly conduct the admiration and commendation of thinking civilians and trained officers of the United States army.
Recognizing the valuable services rendered by the National Guard of California in connection with the disaster of April last, the legislature of this state on June 12, 1906, in extraordinary session, adopted this following concurrent resolution:
SENATE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION NO. 4.
Whereas, The people of San Francisco, San Jose, Santa Rosa and other cities, and indeed the whole state of California, owe much to the military forces of the United States and to the National Guard of California for their efficient services rendered since the disaster of April 18, 1906; and
Whereas, It is fit and proper that recognition should be given in the most public manner, and due acknowledgment made, to the officers and men of both services of the debt of gratitude owed them by the state; and
Whereas, Commencing at an early hour on the morning of April 18th and continuing down to this date, the troops of the regular army under command of Major-General A. W. Greeley and Brigadier-General Frederick Funston have been tireless in the work of preserving order, suppressing turbulence, administering relief to the sick and needy, and improving sanitary conditions; be it
Resolved, That the people of the state of California through its representatives in senate and assembly assembled, hereby makes public recognition of its grateful appreciation of the services rendered by the officers and men of the regular army and the national guard in one of the greatest calamites that ever convulsed a brave, a resolute and a resourceful people.
The following opinion of the attorney general of the State of California is published for the information of all concerned:

STATE OF CALIFORNIA,
OFFICE OF ATTORNEY GENERAL.
San Francisco, May 28, 1906.
Hon. J. LAUCK, Adjutant General, Sacramento, Cal.
Sir: A letter written by Colonel H. I. Seymour to yourself, dated May 17, 1906, relating to longevity pay of officers while in active duty, was duly received. The letter is as follows:
"I have the honor to transmit herewith additional pay roll for longevity amounts due certain officers of this command.
"Attention is respectfully invited to Section 2076, Political Code, and particularly that part thereof which reads as follows:
"Officers while on active duty in the service of the state shall receive the same pay allowance as officers of similar grade in the United States army; also Officers' Pay Table, pages 91 to 94 inclusive, A. R.
"It is believed that amounts, as per this pay roll, are legitimately due and favorable action is respectfully solicited.
"This demand for longevity pay is made on separate pay roll in order not to retard the payment of those whose pay does not involve that question."
After an investigation of the subject, and a review of the United
