A Tustin farmer is said to have killed 6000 gophers with a two-day's irrigation of a forty-acre tract. Two hundred buzzards are said to have assisted in the slaughter. Wonderful stories come from Tustin. Frank Ey was over from Santa Ana the other day, shaking hands with friends hereabout. Frank is in the race for city trustee at the county seat, and the wireless currents which float overhead says, he's a winner. Mr. Spake was a business visitor at Huntington Beach and Bay City the first of the week. While at the first-named place he heard a report that 300 Japanese graders would shortly be put to work upon an electric-railway roadbed extending in this direction. While at the first-named place he heard a report that 300 Japanese graders would shortly be put to work upon an electric-railway roadbed extending in this direction. Whether the line will extend to this city could not be learned. George Ross, manager of the gas works, informs us the company's output has quadrupled since its inception two years ago. At the outset gas used to be made once a week, now it has to be made four times weekly, and Mr. Ross says the time is fast approaching when it will have to be made every day. The gas tank is hardly able to hold gas for two days' supply. Judge Howard had ten cases before him on Monday morning; eight plain drunks and two men charged with fighting. The thermometer registered 100 on Sunday, and steam had to be worked off in one way or another. One of the fighters was exiled to the desert mines for ninety days, and the other has his case under advisement. Fines in nominal amounts were collected from the others. This is not the time for professed republican papers to be belly-aching about the management of party affairs in the dim and distant past. Republicans have a strenuous campaign before them, and they wish to elect their entire ticket, from top to bottom. They should have the support of their party papers, not long-drawn-out sermons of how this man or that was not treated right in the long ago. Get together and cease this wailing. Charles Albrecht came in this week from Stadler, where he is superintendent of a winery working up the product of a 2000-acre vineyard. Mr. Albrecht says the vines are looking splendidly, although this season's crop is not heavy. The vines are four and five years old and have had no irrigation, although the company has a pumping plant and several miles of pipes and ditches. Nearby is the 3000-acre Italian vineyard, which is also looking well. Mr. Albrecht's company will in addition to the grapes raised in its own vineyard purchase 2000 tons of grapes from other growers. All will be uates. All will be made into wine. Stadler is in Riverside county. The action of the republican county central committee in adopting the test for Saturday's primaries is approved by republicans throughout this supervisor district. The committee ordains that no voter who has signed a pledge card to knife party candidates, at the behest of the "executive committee" of the anti-saloon league shall be permitted to vote at the polls. The opinion among republicans hereabout is that no man who has signed such "pledge cards" shall be permitted to sit as a delegate in the convention. The proposition of the anti-saloon league to treacherously ambush party candidates cannot be too heavily sat down upon. As a matter of fact, these pledge-card men are not republicans, but are dominated by the remnant of the old dark-lantern A. P. A. push. George S. Was in town from La Habra morning looking for farm seem to be scarce at this N. Hart went to Los Angeles on Tuesday to make final distribution of moneys belonging to the estate of the late Mrs. Margaret Metz, who died three years ago in April. The estate consists of $16,000 in cash, which will this week be disbursed to several distant relatives in Germany, the largest individual share being $4000. The deceased left an estate of the total value of $30,000, and all but the money in bank has been passed upon by the courts. She left no children nor near relatives in this country, and it required a year to locate distant kin beyond the sea. Another long interval elapsed before proof of their identity could be procured. Now, three years after her death, the last of the moneys remaining in the estate is about to be disbursed. H. Clay Kellogg has received an offer from the Hawaiian government to proceed thither with a view to inspecting a reservoir site and later on, if the site be practicable, to superintend the construction of a large impounding reservoir. Mr. Kellogg will leave for the islands in the near future, but will start work upon the inlet and outlet ditches of the Yorba reservoir before he goes, so that work upon them may proceed during his absence. He will be gone probably six weeks. Mr. Kellogg has already built one large reservoir in Hawaii, which is now in successful operation, and may soon be in charge of another. Sunday was the warmest day of the year, the thermometer touching the 100 mark at noon and for a time thereafter. The heat was accentuated by a fire in the Santiago hills, which threw up great clouds of smoke and added to the prevailing discomfort. Tom Johnson and Santos Carrisosa engaged in a disgraceful fight on Center street on Sunday afternoon. The two stood upon opposite sides of the streets and hurled obscene epithets at one another, to the disguest of passers-by, who beheld no officers in sight. Johnson was later arrested, and on Monday was given a ninety-day floater out of town. Carrisosa was arrested on Monday. Judge Howard took his case under advisement. If reports concerning the occurrence of Sunday afternoon are true, Carrisosa should be given the same kind of medicine Johnson received. Dr. H. A. Johnston went to Santa Ana yesterday for the purpose of renouncing his allegiance to King Albert Edward. The doctor's political sponsors were J. B. Rea of this city and County Treasurer Potter. Citizenship papers were duly issued, and the doctor is now a full-fledged citizen. Walter Wuesthoff some days ago purchased the 20-acre orange grove belonging to F. A.
