A Mineral Products. Funeralist Lewis E. Ausus the yield and value of ostances of California for flows, as per returns rethe State Mining Bureau, Misco, in answer to inquiries producers: The principal are: $ 672 910 175 680 698 810 1 539 807 1 994 740 81 952 376 494 3 969 995 12 276 19 109 600 467 472 112 282 56 592 25 000 571 749 blocks, marble, granite, sandstone, serpentine, slate, glass-sand and soapstone. The relative value of the principal minerals of the state is as follows: First, gold; second, petroleum; third, copper; fourth, clays and their products; fifth, cement; sixth, rubble; seventh, quicksilver. Here's an instance of the economy of municipal ownership. The city hall, erected in 1891 at a cost of $3,500, makes necessary tax payments of $210 per year. The city secured a substantial and serviceable building, at a low rate. If the building were to be rented from private owners, at least $50 per month would be charged. The hall houses the fire department, city jail, council room, and offices for the various municipal officials. The rental would amount to $600 per year, yet it now costs us $210 in interest payments, a saving of $390 per year. How much has this amounted to since the erection of the building? Do we hear anyone saying anything about the building paying for itself? Our water and lighting system has resulted in giving Anaheim the cheapest insurance rates on the coast. Thousands of dollars are saved annually by the citizens of the community, and all on account of the municipal water and electric lighting service. This service we would expand and improve, so that mains may be laid to the outlying parts of our rapidly growing city. The municipal water works have turned into the city treasury during the past ten years a total surplus of $2,973.93. This amount, as in the instance of the surplus derived from the electric lights, has been used, (1), in making improvements to the service; [2], upon the city streets, and [3], disbursed in warrants drawn against the general fund. The water rate is ten cents per 100 cubic feet, equaling 750 gallons. The minimum monthly rate is $1.00, which gives consumers the right to use 7,500 gallons of water per month in their household, upon lawns and for other purposes. This rate, it is considered, is sufficiently reasonable at this time, and no reduction is contemplated, although a cut may be made when the enlarged power-house gets in running order. FULL OF TRAGIC MEANING are these lines from J. H. Simmons of Casey, Ia. Think what might have resulted from this terrible cough if he had not taken the medicine about which he writes: "I had a fearful cough, that disturbed my night's rest. I tried everything, but nothing would relieve it, until I took Dr. King's New Discovery for Consumption. Coughs and Colds, which completely cured me." Instantly relieves and permanently cures all throat and lung diseases; prevents grip and pneumonia. At W. B. Hutchinson drugstore; 50c and $1; guaranteed. Trial bottle free. Profits of Pullman Company Chicago, Ill., Oct. 19.—It was a smiling lot of men that met today at the annual meeting of the stockholders of the Pullman Company. They all knew that business had been phenomenally large during the past year and that the corporation had a surplus of $20,000,000. The stockholders congratulated each other at the meeting and highly complimented the conservative and successful management of Robert T. Lincoln, who was elected president af the death of George M. Pullman. The report of the treasurer showed that the business during the year ending July 31st last, was almost $26,000,000. It is understood that a surplus dividend of $4,000,-000 was declared. This would bring the dividend to fully fifteen per cent of the capital stock of $74,-000,000. To trade for hay, one improved Osborne hay rake, ten foot; one improved Osborne mower, five foot.
