The Weekly Gazette. ESTABLISHED 1870 SUBSCRIPTION - - 1.50 Per Year HENRY KUCHEL, EDITOR Six months.....$1.00 Three months.....50cts Payable invariably in advance. Transient advertising $1 per inch per month The GAZETTE is issued every Thursday morning. Entered at the Anaheim Postoffice as second-class matter. The L. P. Fisher Advertising Agency. 425 Montgomery St., San Francisco, is authorized to receive advertisements for this paper. Our paper is kept on file in that office. Upon another page of this issue will be found extracts from the up-valley papers dealing with the governor's visit to Riverside and San Bernardino. These excerpts make interesting reading at this stage of the proceedings. The San Bernardino Sun warns the governor not to locate the state experiment station at Riverside on account of scarcity of water, and because the title of half of Riverside's water supply is in the courts. Riverside assures the governor Patton has no water. San Bernardino accuses Bro. Clarke of "working" the boards of trade of Colton and other places into adopting resolutions endorsing Riverside. The Times-Index says the governor's reception at Patton was not such as should have been accorded the state's leading citizen. All this rumpus is water upon the ing them? Let us do it if A visit to Pasadena, Redland Riverside shows a distinct contrast to this state of this vailing in these stately counties—the contrast is most and to our utter discreetness this work of weed annihilation taken up forthwith. Clarke of "working" the boards of trade of Colton and other places into adopting resolutions endorsing River-side. The Times-Index says the governor's reception at Patton was not such as should have been accorded the state's leading citizen. All this rumpus is water upon the wheel of Orange county, which tendered the governor and the distinguished members of the commission accompanying him its usual hospitality—generous, warm-hearted, sincere. But we are not basing our claims to the proposed state laboratory because of our hospitality, not by much. That is based upon the pre-eminent advantages of this section for the purposes in view over and above those of other contestants for the prize. These, we believe, are thoroughly well-known especially to Prof. Wickson, the agricultural expert of the university, to whom the matter of further investigating the sites offered has been delegated. Prof. Wickson knows Orange county, as he does Patton and Riverside, and he is the man fitted above all others pre-eminently to make the selection. And we believe that site will be selected which will tend to make the state laboratory a practical success, which will afford relief to the growers, and be of permanent value to the people of the entire state. The Fullerton correspondent of the Los Angeles Examiner bunches up this bit of inelegance: "Fullerton, Oct. 18. — The Fullerton board of trade and the chamber of commerce of Santa Ana have decided to co-operate in the matter of taking in the territory between here and New River should Los Angeles city and county form one government. At a joint meeting it was decided that each organization should appoint a committee of three to work together to ascertain just what can be done at the present time to look after Orange county's interest." At a joint meeting it was decided that each organization should appoint a committee of three to work together to ascertain just what can be done at the present time to look after Orange county's interest." This savors much of the old-time practice of "knocking" Anaheim—which practice has long since gone out of date among the progressive people of our neighbor town. Much as the Anaheim chamber of commerce was the first body in the county to propose the action referred to; as the meeting at which joint action was adopted was held in the rooms of that organization in this city, and as the local chamber entertained their visiting brethren from Santa Ana and Fullerton at an elaborate banquet, this ignoring of the organization by a snide performer in newspaper harness harks back to the dark ages. Will Mr. Van Loan call the attention of Nosey Gardner to it, and have him sit up and take notice? We wonder if it would be too much trouble for owners of city lots in town, as well as those of tracts along the principal roadways out of town, to clear their properties of the weeds encumber- SUPERVISOR LINEBARGER with you.
