An individual told a friend of one the other day that he had opened a bar in Orange, and invited him to drink. He was condemned into the impersonate room of an old butcher shop, well filled with rat-eaten meats, old news, empty barrels and old beef hands. The urtica bar-keep said to our friend, "Well, here we are; what'll you take?" "A little whisky, if you please." "Hain't got no whisky!" "Well, I'll take a cigar." "I haven't laid in my stock of cigars yet." "What have you got?" "Wine." "Well, give me some wine." Bar-keep produced from among the empty mugs a dilapidated looking key, without a faucet, and from his coat full pocket flashed out a dusty tumbler with a piece knocked out of its rim, and politely requested our friend to "fill up and drink hearty." That bar will be a complete success in Orange. The expenses are not much, and they can run very light until the people get used to it.
The shipments from the depot today were: 51 dry hides, weighing 1,002 pounds; 6 bundles sheep pelts, weighing 570 pounds; 6 barns tallow, weighing 1735 pounds.
The wife of Col. Curtis, formerly Commandant of the Government barracks at Wilmington, died in New York on Nov. 20th.

Auctioneer Short disposed of a number of horses and wagons yesterday, at good prices.
Fairview Grange elected David Evey, Master, and D. W. C. Cowan, Overseer, at the meeting yesterday afternoon. The other officers will be elected at the next meeting.
The exports from the depot this morning were: 2 packages sheep pelts weighing 280 pounds, and 20 sacks of beans weighing 1170 pounds, one box walnuts, 3 cases eggs, 16 sacks barley, 5 sacks castor beans.

—Mr. Dye Davies has sold his tract of land, near Anaheim, to Mr. Breed.
—It is estimated that there are more people than horses in Anaheim afflicted with the epizootic.
—Mr. Lasal, a Mason, is lying sick at the Planters' Hotel. We understand he is in a destitute condition.

—Captain Knox was busy yesterday dividing vineyard C5 on Lemon street, into city lots, for the purpose of setting out trees on the lines of the various avenues.
—People will do well to keep a bright look-out for two tramps who are travelling about town begging. They refuse donations of food, and request cash.
—Haying a few hours to spare yesterday, we made a tour through the sausage establishment of Robt. Menzel, and were initiated into the mysteries which surround the manufacture of that edible. The strict cleanliness of the establishment and the experience which Menzel has had in the business makes his sausages greatly sought after, and taxes his utmost energy to supply the demand.

—The adjourned meeting of the stockholders of the Anaheim Lighter Company will be held to-morrow (Monday) afternoon at 3 o'clock, at Enterprise Hall. A Board of Trustees will be elected, and other important business transacted.
—the four-year-old son of Mr. Saler, a bee-keeper, at present residing in Santiago Caifon, but whose family are in Westminster, died on Friday night from tetanus brought on by injuries received in falling from a wagon several days ago.
We met yesterday, an old friend, Chas Robinson, who drove the stage between San Juan and Anaheim for so long a time. He is on his way to San Bernardino, to drive on the new route established from that place to Tuscon, which will commence operations on the 15th. Mr. A. L. Seeley is the Superintendent of the road.
The Commissioners of Water Districts Nos. 1 and 2 met yesterday afternoon at the office of Miles Bros. The pine lumber to be used on the ditches has arrived at Wilmington. Mr. A. T. Hawley, of the Los Angeles Star, has been in this section of the county during the past week, taking notes of the progress which has been made since it was written up. Two of his letters—one from San Juan Capitrano and one from Santa Ana—have already appeared, and the notes from other towns will be published in rapid succession. The letters are interesting and valuable, and show that our part of the county has increased in wealth and population more than the most sananguine could have anticipated.

"Straws show which way the wind blows;" the mode of ascertaining which is very simple. Let the straws pass through the masticating and digestive organs of a horse, and be deposited in a barn yard for six months. Then, on a summer's day, use them for Macadamizing the streets, and brighten freely. After which, if your olfactory nerves are worth a scent, you will be well assured of the fact of an unexplained phenomena of nature, that the wind almost universally proceeds outwardly from one's own lips and nostrils.
Yesterday the goods began to come in for the new store of Cohen & Willard, in the Kreuger block, on Centre street. These gentlemen have spared no expense in filling up their numerous establishment, and their goods will comprise one of the best assortments of Dry Gonds, Grocers, Hardware and General Merchandise ever brought to Anaheim. They represent a branch of the City of Paris store in Los Angeles, the reputation of which is too well known to need comment from us. The advertisement of the store will be found in our suburban tomorrow. They have assigned the one price system, and invite all to inspect their large and varied stock.

Yesterday we predicted a brilliant future for the elegant bar-room at Orange. Man proposes, but—The enterprising whisky vender had borrowed ten dollars from an admirer of his genius, on a note payable ten days after date, which by the way, he neglected to data. With this he put in his stock of poison, and, as is usual in such cases, gave a free blow-out on the opening night. The indignant temperance people bound to conquer or to die, gathered in crowds at the newly-opened saloon, drank up all the wine, and our hero was obliged to collapse and go into bankruptcy. The unsophisticated admirer still retains the undated note, as a memorial of misplaced confidence, and the tide of prosperity still rolls on in the Orange settlement unmolested by whisky saloons.
Two figures, supposed to represent Gill and Sullyan, were hung in elligy in Salem, Oregon, on Saturday. The men named had become objectionable on account of their action in the matter of land titles.
A ledge of soft brown marley rock or hard clay has been discovered near the Crook mill, Arizona Territory, which, by the horn speon process, yield 25 to 60 cents to the spoontful. The Tredwink mill, running on Senator rock, is saving $30 per ton on an assay of $60 per ton, netting $10,000 per month.
Marshal Maxwell, of Utah, is accused of approving to his own use $18,000, which should have been paid to jurors and witnesses.
Fifty persons were killed and many injured in the disembarkment at Braunen. As she was about to start for New York the hollow of a long alongside exploded with the above means.

YOUNG MEN
Who may be suffering from the effect of youthful follicles or indistinction, will do well to avoid themselves of this, the greatest benefit ever laid at the alter of suffering humanity. Dr. SPINKEY will guarantee to fortell $500 for every case of seminal weakness, or pelvic disease of any kind or character which he undertakes and fails to cure. He would therefore say to the unfortunate sufferer who may read this notice that you are grinding upon dangerous ground when you lunge delay in seeking the proper remedy for your complaint. You may be in the first stage; remember you are apposing the lack. If you are bordering upon the lean and are suffering some or all of his ill effects, remember that if you perish in pneumatization, the time must come when the most skillful physician can render you no assistance; when the door of hope will be closed against you; when no angel of mercy can bring you relief.
In no case has the Doctor failed of success. Then let not drepair work upon your imagination, but await yourself of the beneficial results of his treatment before your case is beyond the reach of medical skill; as before grim death hurries you to a premature grave.
