The City Government.
Now, that but four weeks remain until the canons for city nominations, it becomes our tax-paying residents to give a few thoughts to the subject and consider who are the proper men to put in nomination, and upon what platform. No good citizen can hesitate a moment as to his duty in this election. It is for his interest to have
Strict economy in our young city government.
To oppose direct city taxes, and heavy license taxes.
To oppose all paid officers.
To oppose any police establishment until we have increased population.
The original vineyardists should take the lead in making these nominations, and should be willing to accept and hold any of the offices tendered them. They are the most economical. It is a starting fact that while those owners of the city repose at night in quietude at their vineyards, scenes of rowdyism, knavery, blackguardism and immorality, hold high revel at the business center. It does not become a city of such citizens to continue this state of affairs. Insist upon it that your city be a quiet, orderly, honest and well-governed place.

Anahaim Poetry.
The following lines were lately received by a young lady of Anaheim, accompanied by a bouquet:
Accept this baskey from a faller,
Who oft has heard the kensom beller:
Has listened to the fifes a testem,
And helped to do a heap of shamim;
Has seen the war-cloaks dark arms,
Like fifty hammers when they flies;
Who is much bigger than his dad,
And wants to marry—mighty bad.
We commend him to Loe Nietos.
ELEGANT FIXTURES—Mr. P. Richards has received from San Francisco for his new establishment, a plate glass mirror, four by seven feet, and elegant framed in massive black walnut; eight mammoth sized engraving twelve dozen arm-chairs, and a new improved billiard table. Bully Pete.
Many new faces are appearing on streets.
JOB PRINTING.—The Gazette Printing Office is prepared to print car posters, blanks or bill-heads, at she notice, and in a first-class manner.

Road to the Landing.
There is a project on foot to have the Board of Supervisors establish a county road to Anaheim Landing. We respectfully suggest that the route of said road out of Anaheim be laid along the line between Sections 9 and 16 to the Greely tract, and from thence along the highest ground, either on the north or east lines of Section 17; and thence on the most available route to the Landing. This route would pass the thickest part of the environs, and, while it would benefit a large settlement of inhabitants, would every way be as near and practicable as any other. We hope the settlers along that line will keep their eyes open for a petition going before the Supervisors for any other route, and enter a protest against it.
City Improvements.
It is almost impossible, to keep track of the various buildings being erected or proposed to be erected in and around Anaheim, in consequence of one scheme following another in such rapid succession. Among the buildings lately erected, are the magnificent building of P. Richards and the hardware house of J. Bennerschneidt, and several others the objects of which or owners of which, we are unable to obtain information concerning. There are also, in process of construction, a new Livery Stable connecting with the Planter's

An Awful Communication
For the Anaheim "Gazette."
There was once an awful young lady who had an awful way of saying anything. She lived in an awful house, in an awful street, in an awful village, which was an awful distance from every other awful place. She went to an awful school, where she had an awful teacher, who gave her awful lessons out of awful books. Every day she was so awful hungry that she ate an awful amount of food, so that she looked awful healthy. Her hat was awful small, and her feet were awful large. She went to an awful church, and her minister was at awful preacher. When she took an awful walk, she climbed awful hills, and when she got awful tired she sat down under an awful tree rest herself. In summer she found the weather awful hot, and in winter awful cold. When it didn't rain there was awful drought. And when the awful drought was over, there was an awful rain, so that this awful young lady was all the time in an awful state; and she don't get over saying awful about everything, I am afraid she will by any chance come to an awful end.
Missing.—The familiar face of "J Davis," once so common, is seen more upon our streets. In days of youth he was the leading feature of Anaheim. He was the Character of the place; a persons returning, after an absurd abroad, complain that, without him, his identity is imperfect. The anxiety to his strange disappearance is heightened by the near approach of the cemetery, as a large constituency desired to run him for a councilman—and possibly Mayor. Where is "Jeff."?
Order.—An order has been made by the District Court, concerning the estate of Conrad Kuchel of Anaheim deceased, whereby an allowance is apart for the maintenance of the family. All persons familiar with the circumstances connected with this estate,
Anaheim, in consequence of one scheme following another in such rapid succession. Among the buildings lately erected, are the magnificent building of P. Richards and the hardware house of J. Bennerschneidt, and several others the objects of which or owners of which, we are unable to obtain information concerning. There are also, in process of construction, a new Livery Stable connecting with the Planter's Hotel, a long and fine front on the Downey buildings, a house north of the city, on the premises of Mr. Dyer; and to the southeast, a house on the premises of Mr. Boyle. We understand that several other fine buildings are in contemplation: Mr. Kroeger, proposes to construct a two story brick near the Brewery; Mr. Hill, proposes to erect a residence on Los Angeles Street; Ashcroft & Pryor, propose to construct a meat market near the Livery Stable of Mitchell & Gibson; Mr. Werder, contemplates building several tenement houses, and John Nipe proposes to erect a palatial habitation in the suburbs. These plans being carried out will germinate and generate others, and the increase will increase until we enjoy the fulness of the greatness in store for our young city.
Business Changes.—H. D. Polhemus and Ed. Polhemus have dissolved partnership in the hardware business. The business will hereafter be conducted by H. D. Polhamus.
Araold & Baldwin have purchased the entire wagon making business of A. Crum, and are now prepared to do wagon and buggy work of all kinds and at short notice.
There are six new houses on the Bolssa, near Westminster.
