ANAHEIM GAZETTE.
SATURDAY, JANUARY 7, 1871.
Anahaim Cemetery.
Following are statistics of interments in the Anahaim cemetery, during the year 1870:
Whole number buried 17—males 10; females 7... Below one year, 5; below ten years, 2; about twenty years, 1; about forty years, 2; about fifty years, 4; about sixty years, 3. Born in California, 8; other states, 2; Germany, 8; Mexico, 3; Ireland, 1. Of these, 11 died in Anahaim proper; 6 were brought here for interment. 6 were married; 11 single.
Total number buried since January, 1860, is 88, of age and nativity as follows:
Males, 48; females, 40. Below one year, 22; below ten years, 27; about twenty years, 6; about thirty years, 7; about forty years, 10; about fifty years, 7; about sixty years, 6; about seventy years, 2; about ninety years, 1. Born in California, 60; other states, 2; Mexico, 13; Ireland, 1; Germany, 12. White, 78; Indians, 10.
Tried to Rain. It tried to rain last Monday and Tuesday, but without success. There appeared to be a battle between the clouds and the air. As the clouds gathered and tried to settle upon the earth, the wind, being more nimble of foot, kept rushing along beneath, and tossing them sky-high into the middle air again. After a struggle of two days and nights, during which time the rain made every possible effort to pour down upon, and raise the seige of Anahaim, it was obliged to give way, and leave the field to the dry and major-curse-bearing Santa Ana wind.

Sworn Ork.—Nearly every grown person in Anaheim swore off drinking on New Year's day. Since then, the streets have been quiet, and the price of liquor gradually getting ready to fall. The pledge on the part of some extends to the fourth of next July, while others intend to hold their "grip" for thirty days only. The saloon and bar business is the poorest in town just now.
Mr. Timo: Lynch went to Los Angeles on Thursday last, and will return again next Monday.
School Opening.—The next term of the Anaheim school commences on Monday, the 16th instant; meanwhile the school house is to be thoroughly overhauled and renovated.
Mustard.—Forty acres of English mustard is being planted on the ranch of Mr. Jacob Ross, at Santa Ana.
The ball of the Liederkranz, on Saturday night last was well attended, and the result was profitable to that Society.
Prof. Wilson gives next lesson to his dancing class here, on Monday evening.
The City Council meet at the new council-room on Monday evening, at 7:30 P.M.
Money Telegrams.—Instructions just received by H. D. Polhemus, Telegraphic Agent at this place, authorize him to remit by telegraph money to the amount of $500 each order to Los Angeles, San Francisco, Sacramento, Stockton, Virginia City, Portland, Hamilton, Marysville, Goldhill, Elko, and Auckland. To all other places the limit will be $50, as heretofore.
Fresh Drugs.—A large assortment of drugs and chemicals were received by last steamer, at the drug store of Dr.

Choice varieties of fruit trees, shade trees and shrubs, for sale by C. Tustin, eight miles southeast of Anaheim. See advertisement.
Collections.—The merchants of our city are making a demonstration toward the collection of outstanding accounts. This is quite a new thing; and is as generous to the public as the Government tax.
Planting Vines.—J. M. Guinn, Esq., is setting out ten acres of his land in Mission grape vines.
The sheep are gradually being removed from the vicinity of Anaheim.
We acknowledge the receipt of a nearly gotten up counting-house calendar from J. Carlin, Esq., of Los Angeles, Agent for the Hartford Fire Insurance Company.
Dry Weather.—The telegraph reports every day weather in Alameda county, with signs of rain at San Francisco.
Gold Notes.—The First National Gold Bank of San Francisco is to commence issuing notes as soon as they are received from Washington.
Geov Sion.—A beautiful rainbow illuminated the sky above Anaheim at 12 o'clock precisely, on the approach of the New Year, last Saturday night.

Hon. B. D. Wilson is in Washington City, looking after the San Pedro Harbor break-water matter.
Mr. Slaney has opened a branch of his boot and shoe store warehouse on Main street, in the U.S. Hotel building, Los Angeles.
Walter & Smith invite all persons to call and examine their carpets, rugs and mats, on Commercial street, Los Angeles.
DELAYED.—Several express packages from Eastern cities, destined for this place, were delayed at San Francisco, when the last down steamer left, but are now coming overland. The way-bill has arrived.
Rev. L. P. Webber will preach at the School House next Sunday, both morning and evening.
CATHOLIC CHURCH—Services held at the Catholic Church, every other Sunday, Father Peter Verdaguer, Pastor; assisted by Rev. Philip Farley.
