The Merry Christmas.
Christmas Eve and day, in Anaheim, were celebrated in the high old German style, with open house and boundless hospitality. Friends joined friends, and many families whose scattered members had been seperated for a year, joined again around the well spread tables. The occasion was one of reunion, merry-making, and the giving of presents, and we are certain that the inhabitants of no city in California had a merrier—happier Christmas. From the Halls of Momus, came forth Ye Mystique Krueof Comos; and no little amusement was created by their grotesque appearance at the houses of our citizens.
Ferguson vs. Abel Stearns—How to Kill Squirrels.
On the 26th inst., the case of E. A. Ferguson vs. Don Abel Stearns, for trespass, came up on appeal in the County Court, and was decided for the defendant. We understand the trespass law was construed to apply only to original Anaheim preamet, before the boundaries were enlarged by the Board of Supervisors; and hence, Ferguson being outside, was not granted the benefit of that law. The people of Los Angeles have appealed to a law higher than that administered by the Courts; and no one need be in the least surprised if a society is organized at Anaheim to shoot trespassing "broncos" and their owners. It is a matter of life and death to our people. They must be
CITY COUNCIL PROGRESSION.
Session of Dec. 26, 1870.
At the meeting of the Council on the above day, there were present—John Fischer, President; and councilmen Champlin, Zeyn and Kroeger.
The minutes of the previous meeting were read and approved.
The City Hall Committee reported that the new council-room and prison would be ready for occupancy by the next meeting of the Council.
The bill of Messrs, Knox & Ramble, for laying off streets, was referred to the Street Committee, to report upon at next meeting.
The finance Committee reported favorably on bill of City Clerk, for past services.
It was stated that a citizen had offered to clean Olive street, between the property of Mrs. Kuchel and Mr. Boldt, and take the brush for his remuneration. The subject was referred to the Street Committee.
On motion of Mr. Zeyn, it was resolved that any one could have the privilege of cleaning the streets, if they desired to do so, without cost to the city.
The Committee on Ordinance relating to dog nuisance, was granted further time.
The Judiciary Committee were recommended to prepare an ordinance prohibiting owners of horses from leaving them unhitched in the streets.
On motion of Mr. Zeyn, it was resolved that when the Council adjourn, it adjourn to meet in the City Hall on Monday, January 9th, at 7:45 P.M.
boundaries were enlarged by the Board of Supervisors; and hence, Ferguson being outside, was not granted the benefit of that law. The people of Los Angeles have appealed to a law higher than that administered by the Courts; and no one need be in the least surprised if a society is organized at Anaheim to shoot trespassing "broncos" and their owners. It is a matter of life and death to our people. They must be protected, or they must protect them selves. Anaheim is not a free fodder stall for Stearns' crow-bait horses to be fattened at. We annex the following excellent recipe to prevent squirrels from crossing the boundary lines of ones' ranch.
RECIPE:
Five hundred pounds barley, water sufficient to soak it—to which add one pound of strychnine. String this compound along the lines, pen up your chickens, and your ranch is safe.
The Editor of the Santa Barbara Times, is writing "Shoo Fly" editorials upon his competitor of the Press.

Davis & Bro.'s.
JAIN.—A Weather sharp says it will rain next Friday, and continue to rain until the middle of January.
THE OVERLAND.—We are in receipt of the January, 1871, number of that most excellent magazine, the 'Overland monthly' published at San Francisco. Its contents are as follows:
In Italy with Horace, Some Japanese Interiors, A Fool's Errand. Just for a Day, Rambles in Northern Mexico (II). A Tulo Sketch, A Zigzag Pathway. Palm of the Sea, Something about my Pets, His Patagonian Wife, Seasonable Words about Dickens, Adventures in Arizona. The Christmas Gift that Came
The Committee on Ordinations relating to dog nuisance, was granted further time.
The Julliary Committee were recommended to prepare an ordinance prohibiting owners of horses from learing them unhitched in the streets.
On motion of Mr. Zoyn, it was resolved that when the Council adjourn, it adjourn to meet in the City Hall on Monday, January 9th, at 7:45 P.M.

A "Bilk." — A "cuss" passing by the name of Stirling, who, claimed to be the bosom friend of W. C. Ralston, of the Bank of California, visited and "bilked" our town last week. He stated that he had $200,000 to invest in lands, and proceeded to negotiate for all the available real estate hereabouts. He related, confidentially, that he was making $25,000 per day in real estate transactions. Among other purchases he bought five square miles of the Glassell tract, and a section of our neighbor John Hanna. Prices were of no consideration to him. Suddenly, however, he took his departure, and after he had gone, it was discovered that he had upon his pretensions given drafts for small sums on San Francisco, and received his coin here. One of these drafts, amounting to $50, he adroitly disposed of to Heimann & George.
Belly for Los Nietos — Three hundred head of trespassing bronco horses have been fed a square meal of powder and ball, by the "no nonsense" citizens of Los Nietos.
The William Tabor, offers inducements to stock owners and raisers, for the shipping of their stock at reduced rates. She is well calculated for carrying all kinds of stock.
A ball took place at Los Nietos, on Wednesday evening last.
