LIFE OF AVERAGE CAR INCREASING "There has been a considerable improvement in general automobile construction these last three years," declares the vice-president in charge of manufacturing of a prominent concern. This is indicated by the fact that in 1921 the average life of all motor cars was 5.33 years, whereas it is now six." The figures used in determining the life of all motor cars were arrived at from annual productions, yearly registrations in all states, and from the number of motor Day's Tourists Now Equal Year's 1914 Development of transcontinental automobile touring has been so fast in recent years as to be almost unbelievable, according to records of the touring bureau of the Auto Club of So. Calif. As concrete evidence of the rapid increase it is pointed out that in the year 1914, just 10 years ago, a total of 267 automobiles crossed the Colorado river at Needles, entering California from the east during the entire year. This year, 10 years afterwards, there have been many single days when more than this number of cars entered the state by the same route. Now the touring bureau of the auto club is wondering what the next ten years will bring in the way of increased motor travel into the state. NEW RULING FORESHADOW NEWMODELS AT SHOW Southland to Be Repsented at New York Chicago Salons A complete forecast of the models to appear next year will be given the public next month when the two biggest shows of country are held at New York Chicago. CAR INCREASING "There has been a considerable improvement in general automobile construction these last three years," declares the vice-president in charge of manufacturing of a prominent concern. This is indicated by the fact that in 1921 the average life of all motor cars was 5.33 years, whereas it is now six." The figures used in determining the life of all motor cars were arrived at from annual productions, yearly registrations in all states, and from the number of motor cars imported and exported. "Our record of eight years seems to be eloquent testimony to the methods this company uses in building its cars to the great care put into their construction at every stage of their building, and to the longer life that enters each and every part subject to strain and wear. It has been repeatedly emphasized that the first cost of careful building is somewhat higher, but that later lower costs more than prove the economy and sound principle of building to last." 17 NATIONAL FORESTS IN CALIF. California is the most fortunate state in the United States with relation to national parks, national mountains and national forests, according to the touring bureau of the Auto. Club of So. Calif. Of the 19 national parks in the United States, Hawaii and Alaska, California has four. It has two national monuments, one of which is largest in the United States, with 91,000 acres. It has 17 national forest, having a total of 19,000,000 acres. In addition to this magnificent area of scenic grandeur of its own, So. Calif. is adjacent to the Grand Canyon in Arizona and Zion National Park in Utah. FORD BUYERS TO SAVE MILLIONS The reduction in prices announced by the Ford Motor Co., effective Dec. 2 will save over three-quarters of a million dollars to Ford car buyers during the month of December alone. That this amount will be left to the car buyers to spend on holiday gifts and other things is based on a conservative estimate of December sales. The largest cut in the Ford list was that of $25 in the price of the Fordor sedan, one of the most attractive Ford closed cars and one which is a favorite for family use. Prices on other Ford types were also reduced, bringing all of them to the lowest price level in the history of the company. NEW RULING ON LICENSE RENEWALS Automobile license renewals for 1925 may be made on the white certificate by the registered owner, according to the latest ruling of Attorney General U. S. Webb, notice of which was received by the Auto Club of So. Calif. Following this ruling by the attorney general, W. H. Marsh, chief of the division of motor vehicle, Sacramento, has decided that the registered owner of a motor vehicle may apply direct to the Division of Motor Vehicles or thrue Auto Club headquarters at 2601 So. Figueroa-st., Los Angeles, or any of its 29 branch offices, on his white certificate of registration, which according to law must be carried in the driving compartment of the motor vehicle. Initial shipments of plates have been received by the club from the motor vehicle department for distribution to their members, and now there are 100,000 pairs stored in the basement of the Los Angeles headquarters. Another 100,000 will be delivered, and it is probable that the club will distribute approximately a quarter of a million plates before the license renewal season of 1925 is closed. District Manager J. A. B. Dilworth of the Anaheim office will announce later when the plates can be obtained. Registered but not Legal Owner: Where an individual is the registered owner of his automobile, but a finance company, firm or bank is the legal owner, application for license on his white certificate of registration may be made direct to the Motor Vehicle Department of the Automobile Club of So. Calif., 2601 So. Figueroa-st., or at any of its 20 branch offices. Registered as well as Legal Owner: The individual who owns his automobile outright and is so registered should present either his pink certificate of ownership, Southland to Be Represented at New York Chicago Salons A complete forecast of the models to appear next year will be given the public next month when the two biggest shows of country are held at New York Chicago. Anaheim usually is represented at both exhibitions by some dealers, and Los Angeles districtators with whom dealers thrive through Southland are affiliated invariably represented in force. The two shows are being led forward to with more than usual interest this year because the fight which is spread against mid-season models. The New York show takes place Jan. 2-10. It is known as National Automobile Slow and holds under the auctions of National Automobile Chamber Commerce. The two opening days are trade days reserved to dusty and business. The New York show convention will staged Jan. 5 by the National Automobile Dealers' Ass'n at Hotel Commodore. The Chicago show is the 28 annual Automobile Salon takes place Jan. 26-31. The principal shows in California already have been held. Apropos of the new models change tendencies to be shadowed at the two shows, relations passed by leading associations of the country against recent season models are of interest. Eleven organizations have strongly on record as opposed, including the California Automotive Trade Ass'n with headquaters at Oakland, Chicago Auto Trade Ass'n, St. Louis Automotive Dealers', Youngtown O., Automotive Dealers', Illinoi Automotive Trade, Garage Owners of Minnesota, Toledo Automotive Trades, Tampa Auto Dealers', Pittsburg, Pa., Automobile Dealers', Des Moines Motor Trades' reau and the Fort Worth Autive Trades. COACH OUTSELLS ALL OTHER MODELS More Willys-Knight coupe-seeds than all the rest of the models put together are being sold by Ray Schanhals, Willys-Knight and Overland distributor in Anaheim and vicinity, he reported today. This model, with doors front and rear, beautiful navy blue enamel, distinctive appearance and conveniences is delighting its purchasers. It is practically a coach, but with all the luxury of cars selling at much higher prices. No crawling or stumbling over tilted seats or feet in the way. But of course after all, the unique sleeve valve motor which is better at the end of 50,000 miles than at the beginning is the thing which Schanhals emphasizes. Sales in November were the best this year, and December bids fair to equal last month. Noise has been reduced in London underground trains by inserting sound deadening materials in the floors of cars and placing shields near the wheels to deflect their sounds downward. CTION K OWNERS' ATTORNEY RESHADOW NEWMODELS AT SHOW Put Anaheim on Advertising Map Anaheim may yet be advertised throut the country by the Ford Motor Co. Sid McGraw, local representative, announced today that the big concern was about to put into effect a scheme whereby pictures would be taken and the facts put down concerning two Anaheimers who have at least one each of the three vehicles, car, truck and tractor. The two men picked are Harry Dierker and Ralph E. Welch. While the purpose of the Ford Motor Co. hasn't been announced it appears unlikely to say the least, that it will confine the use of the material it obtains to Anaheim, but will prepare it for publicity purpose wherever the farmer prospect is to be found. PROTECTION TO PUBLIC IS LACKING New Act Being Framed, Says M. C. Fiscus of Brea Announcing the quarterly meeting of the Truck Owners Association of So. Calif., to be held Jan. 15 probably at Orange, M. C. Fiscus, the ass'n. attorney today scored the present transportation act which he declared was unsatisfac- ACCESSORIES ARE ALL-FAMILY GIFT NEW ACT BEING FRAMED, SAYS M. C. FISCUS OF BREA ACCESSORIES ARE ALL-FAMILY GIFT The one family possession which every member of the family enjoys from baby to grandma is the automobile. It doesn't matter so much it it's old or it's new, so long as the motor runs 365 days in the year and there is room for all—everybody's happy. But in spite of the good times the family enjoy on Sunday excursions or week end trips, there is usually one fly in the ointment—the car doesn't always have all the equipment necessary to give the maximum of comfort and service. So there is the solution to your problem, "What shall we give the So-and-So's for Christmas?" Give accessories—something that the entire family will enjoy, not only for the time being, but for years to come. Gifts of every conceivable kind are included in the offerings featured at the Western Auto Supply Company for the car owner. These gifts run the entire range of things both useful and ornamental for the adornment of the car. There is such an array of these accessories that it is extremely easy to select a gift that is practical. The prices too, are varied so that there is a suitable gift for every pocketbook. It is simply a matter of selecting some article of equipment that the car now lacks. No matter what this selection may be, it is certain that it will be appreciated—Auto accessory gifts always are. Among the most popular selections are such desirable gifts as motometers, clocks, cigar lighters, rear view mirrors, windshield wings, vases, gloves, spotlights, horns, robes and luncheon sets. SEARS REGISTRATION Service Here Soon It will be good news to the automobile owners of Anaheim to learn that there will be a branch office of the Sears Motor Registration Service established in Anaheim in a few days for the purpose of securing the 1925 automobile plates and assisting the owners in securing plates for cars from out of state. The location of the office will be care of Hushman's Super Service Station, corner Los Angeles and Broadway. The Sears Motor Registration ANNUNCING THE QUARTERLY MEETING OF THE Truck Owners' Ass'n of So. Calif., to be held Jan. 15 probably at Orange, M. C. Fiscus, the ass'n attorney today scored the present transportation act which he declared was unsatisfactory alike to the State Railroad Commission, the public and truck owners. A new act now is being framed and the threshing out of its provisions by an expert from Los Angeles will be one of the features of the coming meeting. The gathering will include a dinner to which the ladies of the members will be invited. The committee in charge consists of Ray Sherwood of Orange, chairman; Raymond Dickinson of Santa Ana and Frank Day of Fullerton. Fiscus is a member of the legislative committee of the So. Calif.'s and is lending his best efforts to the framing of the new act. A copy of the act in its tentative stages will be submitted probably to Assemblyman S. C. Hartranft before he leaves for Sacramento. THE CRITICISM OF FISCUS APPLIED particularly to the condition that at present operators of vehicles, including trucks, cannot be held to strict responsibility in case of accident. So far as truck owners are concerned, they will be obliged by the act to furnish bond or show a clean property valuation, so that if anybody is run down on the highway the victim can reimburse himself. Thousands of owners of cars, according to Fiscus have no property, so that to sue them for injuries received is useless. Fiscus had in mind especially what he called "fly-by-night" operators of unsettled habits. Another defect of the present law is that the State Railroad Commission isn't given power enough to enable it to show its teeth. ANAHEIMERS BUY New Oakland Car Elmer Brooks purchased an Oakland touring and C. A. Barton on Oakland roadster this week of Harry L. Turton, distributor in Northern Orange-co.
