EXCAVATING FOR BAPTIST CHURCH The excavation work for the new Calvary Baptist church in Citronst. near Broadway is finished and today Convention Constructor Hunt was supervising the cement work on the basement. The building, which will accommodate a seated congregation of 400 persons, will be finished April I. Until then the members will continue to worship in Odd Fellows hall. The dimensions of the new structure are 50 by 76. The building will contain a Sunday school assembly room and glass room, the former being used as the former being used as the auditorium until the auditorium unit is constructed later. A balcony also will be added later on, much increasing the number of people that can be seated. Hunt is employed as building supervisor by the So. Calif. Baptist Convention. Except for himself and two men who accompany him wherever he goes, all of the workmen on the project are Ana-hefters. 768 Satisfied Customers Availed themselves of the opportunity to make Their Meat Purchases where there is plenty of Parking Space. These figures are from California, estimated in part on the basis of the Exchange avg. The larger returns are anticipated partly because of the high-level at which the naval market is started this year. The first of the No. Orange-co. crops will be shipped within ten years, in the opinion of Dale King, manager of the Northern Exchange, but it depends upon whether they meet the 8-1 test. Manager E. G. Dezell of the Exchange in a statement yesterday said: "The Central California naval crop is practically all canned up. About 5000 car loads are shipped, which is an average crop. It brot satisfactory pieces. Most of the crop was two weeks earlier than usual. It was excellent in quality, giving the most satisfaction to consumers." Last year the Florida crop is badly handled, with excessively heavy shipping in November and December that deprived the market. This year has been more intelligently managed, and demand remains strong. The Southern California crop moving, the Christmas supplying good prices. It is not class fruit, well ripened, such fruit serves to stimulate demand after the Christmas period has passed. This year there are fewer ranges on the trees, but they take up in uniformity to the most valuable size, commercially, what they lack in numbers, so that as many carloads as year are in prospect. With market firm and the Florida Chairs Wrong, Women Suffer GRAND RAPIDS, Mich., Dec. 12.—American Women suffer needlessly and it's all the fault of furniture manufacturers, according to Dr. C. H. Jennings who addressed members of the Michigan Osteopathic association in convention at the furniture city recently. Evidence against the chair-makers is indirect and circumstantial but an extensive study of posture by Dr. Jennings places the blame upon them. It is all because the shape of chairs isn't well adapted to the peculiar construction of woman. The fallacy is in failure to allow for woman's hips. As a result women get into the habit of sitting on one foot. This effects the spine which in turn produces headache to which women are especially susceptible. "This habit of drawing one leg up under the other tiltts the pelvis and has a tendency to create spinal curvature and would seem to warrant a special manufacture of special chairs for women," Dr. Jennings says in a lengthy report of his findings. Four suburbs, belonging to a British installation station in India, had home on leave. Their money was finished rapidly, and they were too glad to take the boat back to India. Board the ship they found an man who was beemoaning the fact that he could not indulge his hobby—bridge. The experts would have nothing to do with the man, because he was such a terrible bore. Thereupon the soldiers made him up a tie for bridge for the voyage. They played all day and every until the ship reached India. The old man expressed his deep attitude to the soldiers and left him with renewed and hearty knacks. A few weeks later he mediately afterward the young lawyer received a lawyer's letter that, as a token of his attitude, the old man had left 20,000 pounds a year than $100,000—between them. It is amazing the extreme artery that young officers are showing to strangers on the pages to and from India. HOW TO SOLVE PUZZLE The words start in the numbered squares and run either across or down. Only one letter is placed in each white square. If the proper words are found each combination of letters in the white squares will form words. The key to the puzzle—the first word—is given in the drawing. Below are keys to the other words: Running Across Word 1 a country in south-western Europe. Word 4 a famous river in Germany. Word 5 smeared or soiled. Running Down Word 1 to play on a stringed musical instrument in an unskilled, rough or noisy manner. Word 2, out of order, faulty. Word 3 in want A Class Ad is best little salesman. SO. A F.HUSBANDS CAPETOWN, South Africa, Dec. 12. King Solomon would have to look to his reputation of being the most married man if he were living in South Africa today. Latest census reports reveal that there are men with fifty-one, seventy-nine and 110 wives. The man with the largest household, according to the census statistics, is a man with seventy-nine wives, 134 sons, and fifty-nine daughters, while cases of men with fifty-five wives, fifty sons and fifty daughters are frequent. The census authorities could not obtain confirmation of a man reported to have ninety-three wives and 184 children, owing to a great number of them being in different parts of the country. The census officer, quoting the first-named man, says he told him he was just getting a start as a family man. The number of native husbands is 718,292, and the number of wives, 854,560. Snow, Chief of Field Artillery, to the War Department. During the last year numerous trips have been made into the jungles by the different batteries of the Fourth Field Artillery, stationed at Gatun, in the Canal Zone. One such trip constituted a crossing of the isthmus by a complete battery—the first time any unit of the American army has marched entirely across the isthmus. The object of the trip was to determine the feasibility of transporting artillery from the Atlantic to the Pacific by means of pack transportation. The march—only sixty-five miles—was accomplished after twenty-three days of most difficult going. On some days only a few miles could be made due to the difficult terrain and to the large amount of bridge building and trail clearing thru the landlocked underkrowth which had J. C. In the Philippines the Twenty-fourth Field Artillery, stationed at Camp Stotsenburg, conducted extensive explorations into the unknown country in the interior to improve the artillery target-range and to open a trail from Camp Stotsenburg to the west coast of the Island of Luzon. As far as known, they were the first troops to reach the summit of Mount Pinatuba. FREE SATURDAY DEC. 13 Large 24 oz. Loaf Bread —FREE— with each Dozen Hot Cream DONUTS This is customer's profit day.
