G. Brookins and Mrs. Helen Wiley, principals in the alleged "love nest" case, were held to answer to the Superior Court at the preliminary hearing this morning. Their plea of having committed no offense in occupy the same room was attacked by Assistant District Attorney D. G. Wettlin, City Marshal Porter of Newport, member of the raiding party, which nabbed the pair, was a witness, and was the object of good natured railery from the attorneys during the hearing.
Mrs. Brookins denied today that she would give Brookins his freedom to marry Mrs. Wiley. She has not filed suit for divorce as reported. She did institute proceedings for separate maintenance. This was settled out of court. Mrs. Brookins obtained full title to their home.

YORBA, Feb. 16. (Spl.)—Radio is slowly, but surely invading Yorba, and now even "radio" parties are the "au falt," thing around here, as witness the one given recently to Mr. and Mrs. Chas. Teed and their son Wallace by Mr. and Mrs. J. F. Velasco and their son Louis A. Velasco. After "listening in" to some of the programs broadcast the guests and entertainers partook of chocolate, fruits, cakes and other refreshments. Teeds kindly retaliated by inviting the Velascos to "listen in" to grand opera at the Teed home, which was gladly accepted and greatly enjoyed.
Another very pleasant affair was the one held at Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Davignou's home last week. The affair was complimentary to a cousin of theirs, Mrs. Gilkerson of Portland, Oregon, who is here for a visit with the Davignou's. A chicken dinner with all the "trimmings", "fixins" and all kinds of savory addeuda that a person can imagine in his most epicurean dreams was there and those assembled did more than justice to it, for had it not been that the repast was too bountiful for such a thing to happen, they certainly would have followed the example of Jack Spratt and his wife, and "licked the platter clean!" After the dinner, music, vocal, instrumental and terpilchorean, was indulged in by all, the satisfied company leaving really early—in the morning. Those present were Mesdames Gilkerson, the Velasco, the Misses Evelyn, Aurelia and Laura Davignou, Mr. Louis A. Velisco and Mr. and Mrs. Davignou.
Mr. Joseph Sancher has developed into a regular grand opera "bug" during the present saeon, the young man going into the city almost every night, so far. As it is in line with the musical education he is getting we are very glad to report the interest Joe takes in the art.
A very enjoyable birthday party was tendered Miss Anita Peralta on Sunday, by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. C. Peralta of Olinda. A Spanish dinner was served at noon and in the evening chocolate was partaken of, during which repast a birthday cake with the requisite 14 candles was the center of attraction for the foretelling signs, for the honoree. When all these had been complied with, every one had a generous sized sample of it, and found it as good as the predictions had been. Those present were Mrs. F. Ybarra, the Misses Lastenia Ybarra, Elida and Grace Molina and Mr. P. Ybarra of Vernon; Mesdames T. Sanchez and A. D. Velasco; and Messrs. Joseph A. Since the days of volunteer fire departments, when the town alarm brought men from their homes and business places to fight the common enemy, there has always been a glamor about the life of firemen. This exists no less since the Fairyland today for the Saturday than it did when horses with arched necks and fiery eyes hathed the steamers and the hooks. Nor is it any less than it was in the days when men pulled the little hose cart and pumped water by hand.
Accordingly, when Richard Harding Davis, for long years a newspaper reporter, wrote "Andy McGee's Chorus Girl" he knew whereof he wrote. He weaved all the romance of the fire fighters into his tale and interweaved it with a story of love. The combination had a remarkable effect.
William Fox has taken the story and retitled it "Cupid's Fireman," but it is the story, just the same. Charles Jones, the heroic Western star so familiar to picture patrons the world over, plays the role of Andy McGee Pretty Marian Nixon is show girl. The balance of the cast, giving them powerful support, consists of Brooks Benedict, Eileen O'Malley, the juvenile; Lucy Beaumont, Al Freemont; Charles McHugh, Mary Warren and L. H. King.
William Wellman directed the picture and was not satisfied with studio sets. Instead he prevailed upon the Los Angeles fire department to become part of the cast, and instead of filming a studio fire, he waited for a real one when the men were in determined action. The result was a picture of marvelous realism, to judge from the words of firemen who have seen it.
"Cupid's Fireman" opens at the Fairyland today for the Saturday and Sunday showing. When it was first shown in New York Joseph O'Reilly, of the Uniformed Firemen's Association of Greater New York, said: "Wonderful. My only regret is that our own department didn't figure in it."
GIRL'S ARM BROKEN
The many friends of little Miss Elise Wright will be sorry to learn that she suffered a broken arm yesterday on the slide at Central school. Her foot slipped at the base of the slide and she fell on her arm.
She is the talented daughter of Mr. and Mrs. A. G. Wright, 742 N. Clementine. Miss Elise has appeared at a number of dances and delighted the many hundreds at the community Xmas tree celebration, with her Jingle Bell dance. She will have to give up her music and dancing for several weeks.

TRUSTEES FACE MORE CHARGES
(Continued From Page One) a responsible party with them to a meeting of the creditors called by the said Board of Trade, and this gentleman offered to pay the creditors fifty cents on the dollar by June 1, 1924, and then call a meeting of the creditors and state to them the condition of the company and when he could pay the balance due them on their accounts.
The trustees investigated this man's record and ascertained that he had helped to re-finance one of the large clothing stores in this city, besides re-financing other stores in Southern California. The trustees and this gentleman were unable to come to terms simply because it was necessary to have the co-operation of all creditors, and the said Board of Trade stated that they would not permit him to act in the matter.
As a last resort, the trustees submitted to L. Boteler, who represents the Los Angeles Wholesalers' Board of Trade, an assignment, a copy of which is enclosed in this letter. The Board of Trade refused to accept this assignment although they had stated verbally that they were willing to do practically everything covered in the assignment if the trustees would by the Board of Trade. For reasons best known to themselves, they rejected the enclosed assignment.
As you will note, the enclosed assignment prevents the assignee from disposing of either of the stores to some friend at too low a figure, as the permission of the trustees must be first obtained in writing, and naturally the trustees would not have given permission unless they knew the terms of the sale.
The Board of Trade rejected the enclosed assignment and brought suit attaching and closing both of the stores. In order to keep all the creditors and trustees face more charges
