FRUIT JUICE CO.
TO BE EXPANDED
When an organization extends the market for California's most important product, when it solves the three most serious problems of this industry, it deserves the attention of every one either directly or indirectly interested. This is exactly what the California Crushed Fruit Corp. has done and growers are tremendously interested in the announcement that stock is now being offered in this company.
For the growth of this industry increases the income and profits of citrus growers by utilizing ripe fruit that cannot now be economically shipped. This company is capable of absorbing California's entire output of culls. By eliminating the second grade fruit from the prime fruit markets it removes this costly competition and stabilizes choice-fruit prices.
The business of the California Crushed Fruit Corp. was established in 1520 by W. R. Thomas and Evans Blowett of Los Angeles, after the discovery by Mr. Thomas of a process for preparing orange and lemon juice without adulteration, pasteurization or manipulation. This process is known to the trade as a cold process, which makes it possible to retain untainted the full, natural flavor and color of the juice. These juices, known as Suncrush Orange and Suncrush Leucon, are used for drinking, cooking, baking and in ice creams in exactly the same way that the juice freshly squeezed from the orange or lemon is used. Suncrush will meet every fest of fresh fruit juice because it is fresh fruit juice.
The market for the products of this company is world-wide. Orange juice is the world's favorite fruit drink. The soundness of the Suncrush process has been attested by thousands of consumers in every conceivable use. This product will keep indefinitely, shipments have arrived in first class condition after traveling 11,000 miles.
ORANGE-CO ADOPTIONS FOR THE BERKSHIRE HOC
(By Jack Klein of the California Cultivator)
A deal which practically means the formal declaration that the official hog for Orange-co is to be the Berkshire was consummated at the recent Los Angeles County fair, Pomona, when the supervisors visited the fair and after looking over all breeds shown there in large numbers, completed the purchase of the show herd of Berks owns by the Anaheim Beef Company. This herd was made up of the tops of the great herd assembled by the Italian Vineyard Company which was recently sold out. It is unquestionably one of the greatest aggregations of Berkshires in the country and in the future its home will be the Orange County farm.
When the Vineyard Company adopted the Berkshire its unlimited resources and the keen judgment of Alex Wilson, manager of the livestock department, were combined to assemble what has been declared by experts to be the greatest herd in the history of Berkshires. In doing this over 200 sows have been owned by the company and the best ones and their progeny were retained for breeding purposes. When the recent sale was decided upon the best of these were retained and the balance sold. J. R. Ruether of the Anaheim Beef Company has purchased from the Vineyard Company more than $150,000 worth of fat stock in the past four years and his experience has taught him the value of purebred Berks for killing, so in order to prevent the best of the herd from being sold out of his territory he purchased the show herd and inter sold it to the county for just what he had paid.
It is the intention of the supervisors to retain some of the progeny, in this way building up the herd and placing others in California and Los Angeles fairs. Alex Wilson has this pig to be by far the best bred in the herd. She has thing in the world to coorher and if the old sow he been in tip top shape t would probably have beaten.
Another good one is Lady Rookwood, a daughter of Lady Rookwood 100th who grand champion of the New Swine Show a number of ago. Daughters of Rincon or Real Type, Champions 2nd and other great hooers included in the purchase.

way that the juice freshly squeezed from the orange or lemon is used. Suncrush will meet every test of fresh fruit juice because it is fresh fruit juice.
The market for the products of this company is world-wide. Orange juice is the world's favorite fruit drink. The soundness of the Suncrush process has been attested by thousands of consumers in every conceivable use. This product will keep indefinitely, shipments have arrived in first class condition after traveling 11,000 miles to Donec, crossing the equater. Suncrush has been known to keep its original freshness and flavor for more than two years.
At the time of organization in September, 1920, the total invested capital was about $2000.00. The first month's sales totalled $45.00. Fifteen months later, in February, a winter month, the sales total had mounted at $17.495.14. By June of his year, after less than three years of operation, the monthly sales total had increased to $33.925.44.
The purpose of this issue is to finance the expansion of the company made necessary by the great demand for its product. The funds secured will be used to purchase additional sites, buildings, and equipment, to establish direct selling agencies throughout the country, to acquire leases for Suncrush retail stands and to advertise the product.

It is the intention of the supervisors to retain some of the progeny, in this way building up the herd, and to place the others in the hands of the farm adviser’s office to be sold to pig clubs. It is hoped that this method will stimulate hog raising in the country which needs fertilizer and will help to interest the younger generation in livestock.
Heading the herd is Guastilla Rival, a bear who has been in the limelight since he was first shown as a junior pig. He has been shown 13 times in strong competition and has lead his class every time but one. He has won many championships and at the Los Angeles and Orange County fairs was the grand champion boar of the breed. He is only two years old but has sired many promising pigs.
The sows are headed by Violet's Postline who has never been defeated for the preacher honor in the 14 shows where she appeared. These included the Pacific International at Portland, the California state fair, and practically every other large fair in this state. As well as being a great show sow she has been a sure breeder and her pigs have won many prizes. This herd includes two of her daughters.
Another great sow in the transaction is Grape Wild Rose sixth who was bred and developed by A. B. Humphrey of Escalon and who won all down the line until Viclet appeared on the scene. She has also been grand champion many time and has helped to make the aged herd the strongest shown anywhere.
Among the young sows the outstanding one is Valencia Lady who was junior and reserve grand champion at both the Southern

The Orange County people are going a step in the right direction by buying this herd. At the present price of livestock there is reason why every animal owned by a county or state institution should not be purebred. Everyone recognizes that the pure-breds produce more at a less cost than do the grades and the establishment of a herd of any breed in good livestock in general. While some very fine results have been obtained in the various institutions with grade stock, great results would have been the result if purebreds had been used. Mr. John Ruether, president and general manager of the Anaheim Beef Company has this to regard the hog industry of Orange county:
If there were ten hogs raised each year on every acre of agricultural lands and corn, barley, milfoil and stock pumpkins were used instead of one crop year per year, such as sugar beets at the revenue to the producer would be $16.00 per fat hog, which would be over $2,000,000 is nearly double some of the water soil draining crops. This would bring about diversified crops and we would put as much saw hard times among ranchers where daisying, hog raising and poultry production was followed. Wisconsin stands out today as a living example for the above statement. Owners of irrigated agricultural land in this county should advertise and foster a movement to bring in such a class of tenants or prospective purchasers of such ranches. This idea should have the endorsement and co-operation of every banker, businessman and realtor in Orange County. Mr. Ruether can produce many facts to substantiate this statement and will be glad to give any assistance at any time to anyone applying for the same. Our supervisors are to be congratulated for the progress attitude that they are pursuing in making the county farm headquarters for all such experimental and practical ranch operations.
ARIZONA COTTON NETS $5,000·000
PHOENIX, Nov. 26.—With the cotton harvest only half finished, railroad reports of cotton shipments to the Eastern milling centers indicate a much larger yield than early estimates. A total of 8,500 bales of cotton, mostly short staple, have been loaded on to cart. Estimating the price at 30 cents a pound, this represents a value to the producers of $1,500,-000.
The picking of the long staple variety has just started. This crop represents about 50 per cent of the total cotton acreage and will bring a higher average than the short staple cotton. It is conservatively estimated that the total crop of long and short staple cotton will not get the growers of the Salt River Valley upwards of $5,000,000 this reason.

CROP CONDITIONS FAVOR SOUTHWEST
FORT WORTH, Nov. 26.—The era of prosperity being enjoyed in the southwest is due directly to the good condition of crops and markets, according to Kevin Gould of New York, chairman of the board of directors of the St. Louis Southwestern Railroad. Gould is touring Texas in the interests of his carrier.
"With the splendid crop condition, the high price of cotton, stimulated lumber trade and general business activity, prosperity should continue indefinitely," Gould said. "This especially is true of the southern Texas area."
Many improvements in the physical properties of the Cotton Belt system, subsidiary of the St. Louis Southwestern line, were promised by Gould.
