BRIDAL COUPLE
HONEYMOON IN
SAN FRANCISCO
WITH the simplest of wedding
rites, Miss Lanette Rule and
Mr. Harold Bird were united in
marriage Saturday evening at 8
o'clock at the parsonage of the
First Methodist church in Orange,
Rev. C. H. Dalton, pastor, officiating.
Only the parents of the groom, Mr. and Mrs. P. I. Bird,
of Orange; Mrs. George Wetzel,
mother of the bride; and Mr. and Mrs. Walter Brubaker, sister and husband of the groom and the bride's sister and brother, Marcella and Chalmers Marshal, attended the ceremony. Miss Rule wore a handsome brown Canton crepe gown, with brown accessories.
They were guests of the evening at the Bird home and yesterday afternoon sailed from Wilmington on the Yale for a honeymoon in San Francisco. Miss Lydia Davis a long-time chum of the bride, and Mr. Walter Loeschler accompanied them to the decks. They will return to be at home after Dec. 19th at 607 South Dickleast, where a pretty new home awaits them.
Miss Rule is a very popular Anaheim business girl having been bockkeeper in the Woolworth store, where she will retain her position until after the holidays, at least. Mr. Bird operates a transfer business here and is an energetic young man. Both are high school graduates, the bride of A. U. H. S., class of '21 and the groom, of O. U. H. S., '20.
Several pretty social courtesies have ben paid the bride in anticipation of her approaching marriage, a dinner party having been given her late last week by Miss Lydia Davis.
Pupils Organize Club
Pupils of Ellis Rhodes, whose studio is at the C. A. McCullah home, held an organization meeting Saturday night, and were given the privilege of bringing an invited guest. The purpose of the club is to study composers and their works, meeting each month, and to have a social hour later.
Study was concentrated on Greig at the initial meeting and in the next gathering January, operas will be the theme, and every person will be asked to contribute to the program, either by vocal or piano numbers, or in telling the story of some opera. In the February meeting Cadman will be presented by the men and McDowell by the girls.
About twenty-five members and guests enjoyed the evening. In a musical game Mrs. Bert Steelhead won the prize, a picture of Greig.
Successful Canvass
The canvass by a dozen of the men of St. Michaela Episcopal church yesterday afternoon was entirely successful. In two hours the total budget for 1924 for the local and general work of the church was pledged by members and friends who were visited. This includes the pledges of a few regular subscribers who were not at home during the afternoon. Rev. F. Bugbee, general secretary, of the campaign for the general program of the Episcopal church, reported Anaheim as the first parish on the honor roll of the diocese. The result is highly gratifying to all the members of the church.
The canvassers were V.D. Loly, E. Zitzmann, J. E. Stewart, W Hill, J. M. McDuell, Glenn Wright, Thos. Lumsden, J. H. Wuitaker, Robert Easton, Arthur Finnegan, and others.

our immigrants do not easily grasp the meaning of our political institutions. They have to be carefully instructed in the elementary principles of good citizenship. This is not to reflect upon them. But they have been brought up under old world despotisms and do not easily realize the obligations of a free citizenship under a representative government.
Much more difficult is it for them to realize what is the true spiritual genius of America.
It is a short sighted policy to slant the door of opportunity in the face of any man or woman moving towards a richer human experience and a larger liberty. But it is national suicide not to help such persons into a full appreciation of the meaning of American citizenship on its highest levels.
Our duty and our privilege are here marked out plainly. And here is one service the church renders the Republic. In addition to the aid it gives to all manner of good causes bearing upon the various phases of national life, the church brings the soul of the Republic, the lives of American men and women, under the influence of the mighty ideas and ideals of Christianity.

UNITED TURNS AWAY HUNDREDS
Hundreds were turned away at the United Theatre last night. A little after 7 o'clock the old familiar S R O sign reigned in all its glory. But those who were disappointed in seeing this big double program will have the chance to come tonight and tomorrow night.
It is one of the best all around programs ever shown in Anabeim, The Seven Royal Hawaiians, featuring pretty native dancing girls direct from the Hawaiian Islands, were the big hit of the evening. The boys sure can play and—the dancing girls are a treat to tired eyes.
Violet In Visions D'Art was one of the most beautiful spectacles ever seen. Beautiful of figure and with a wonderful array of costumes, which by the way are worthless for street wear, is an act you don't want to miss.
Oldfield and Drew were very refreshing in their miniature musical comedy skit and were thoroughly enjoyed by all.
And on the zerow, "Ten—with a kick." It is built strictly for laughing purposes and more than lives up to its contract. It is a satire on the prohibition question, and like a true satire, takes no sides. It is a comedy with a dramatic relief. Even the serious moments turn into a howl of laughter. And the cast—27 Stars, who act, the ten prize winning beauties and the 100 Hollywood heartbreakers. Yes! It's some picture.
There is also shown one of the new Century comedies, "High Kickers."
The same program will be repeated again tonight and tomorrow.
