This question is being thrashed out by the authorities of upper Darby township, one of a number of outlying suburbs here rejoicing in a complete equipment of Sunday "blue laws" of the most ancient character. Recently a soccer game in progress on the private field of a local concern within the township was interrupted by henchmen of a township commissioner, who arrested one of the players and broke up the game. The president of the firm involved was also a commissioner of the same township, and he at once vowed vengeance, salied forth and had a golfer in another part of the township arrested. The two commissioners are political rivals. The one who caused the arrest of the golfer now declares he will close up the Arenelmink Golf club, a popular Sunday resort, because the 12th and 14th holes are in upper Darby township. “If the blue laws are to be enforced let’s enforce them to the limit,” is his dictum. And so the soccer player and the golf player will become allegorical figures in the final drama before a magiarate. In the meantime, the soccer players have solved their problems by re-locating their field about 100 feet from its former site. The new location, in Philadelphia county, permits them to play undisturbed by the law enforcers. RUSSIAN BLOUSE REMAINS POPULAR PARIS, Nov. 8.—The Russian blouse effect continues to be as popular for fall and winter models as for the late summer ones. Molyneux started the movement with his charming walking suits of the new alpacas, with no trimming but smart leather belts and white collar and cuffs. These had a Russian blouse, but rather short ones, which only slightly hung over the straight silky skirts. The Russian blouse of the fall model has taken on longer proportions and has the real Russian cut. It is the line which most of the designers are favoring for tailored costumes, one-piece and afternoon gowns. They are either embroidered or straight and flare from the knee with a band of fur. Germaine uses mostly velvet and velours de Smyrne in plain tones and puts a band of lovely embroidery about the neck and down the left side. The neck is cut in round Russian fashion. Plain velours have stripes and plaids or squares of silk appliqué, making a trimming both interesting and in good taste. Francis combines red leather and gold embroidery to make a most charming border. Redfern is making a most attractive costume in black trimmed with ermine bands. It will be a popular one at the winter resorts. Another in blege has cut work and is worn with a skirt of beige velours de Smyrne. Penney Co. store here. Scoutmaster Paul Neja of Troop No. 3 announces. At the county headquarters in Santa Ana all supplies other than clothing may be had. The new plan saves sending to New York and compelling theads to wait for weeks to have orders filled. It also makes it sure that orders are correct. Harry Amberg, the Far Eastern representative of the Universal Picture Corporation and his wife residing at the Hongkong Hotel, became engaged in a quarrel. Mrs. Amberg in the excitement swallowed a potion of poison. Amberg learning that there was no hope for the recovery of his wife, jumped thirty feet into the courtyard of the hotel. Both died within a short time. —Buy In Anahlm— BIG INCREASE NOTED At the end of June the world’s merchant marine has increased 1,125,600 gross tons in a year, 63 per cent of the gain being represented by German shipping.
